We've got up to heavy rain again this morning here in Lancing. The field here is getting very waterlogged. Nevertheless, I managed to drive the Smart car off the field to get to work last night. I just hope that with this additional rain that I don't get stuck tonight!

Last night, I had to do an extra hour at work because the closing driver couldn't come in to work due to family illness. I finished the last delivery at 10 p.m. and there were no more orders after that, so my last hour was spent in the shop doing boxes. The closing driver can never get off early as they need at least one driver to cover just in case an order comes in. If an order comes in through the web at just a few seconds before 11 p.m., the closing driver has to do it, even if it's in Shoreham. It can and does happen. If so, it means having to work until 11.30 p.m. or even midnight if two orders come in just before 11p.m.

The snow doesn't look very pretty this morning.  It is just grey, dirty and slushy.  I think it is forecast to be very cold overnight so we might get a hard frost tomorrow.

(Our friends from Peterborough are coming to stay next weekend; we talked to them today and they said it was rather grim over there!)

Will it be a 'Red Setter' meet up moulesy?  I hope you all have a good time.

What a difference 24 hours makes on prettiness 😲.

Our snow is disappearing fast and green can be seen on our grass area, some plants which are evergreen in mild sh weather look very sad and the weight of the snow has broken ornamental grass fronds. The road looks messy and brown 😢. At the moment it's 2.1c with a sort of frozen rain and it feels much colder than yesterday although the thermometer is a degree higher.

Our stepping stones on the grass are flooded so I didn' explore further just put the bird food out.

It's very grey and uninspiring here 😢. All presents wrapped yesterday, I side swiped mince pies making. I'll have to go out on foot for some air and odds and ends.

Enjoy your day folks and stay safe.

Doing what every sensible person shuld- stay indoors, keep off the roads and leave everything to those that MUST step out. You would think from the press that we were under siege. Its only been ONE day for heavens sake.

Ten days left to our two week holiday at Baltic Wharf club site. Whilst there, we'll be visiting friends. We've been invited to dinner on 2nd January by a non-caravanning old school friend who lives in Bristol and there are also plans to meet up with some caravanning friends from Thornbury.

There's no chance of that for me, Fisherman. I still have to go out in the car and deliver piping hot, freshly cooked pizzas to customers regardless of the weather!

If you had been in this area yesterday with the problems on the roads, your "Hot" food would have been stone cold by the time you got to deliver, probably why there was no home deliveries from anywhere

It is grey and slushy this morning on the roads, and all the schools are closed? we really are getting to be a "snow flake" society

No snow here but wintery showers. Left Barleywood at 8am and arrived home 2hrs later.  Road conditions were ok.  Van is filthy so one fine day will have to get the washing stuff out

Been to the local coop for milk they ran out yesterday, and not had delivery yet,

also just read on line that the reason there was such a problem on the roads yesterday was "not enough vehicles " useing the roads to spread the salt!!! ,me thinks that will go down as another of the "classic" statements like the "wrong sort of snow" some years back from BR when there was big problems,

although valid but could have been worded betterwink

What a mucky yucky day it is here. Yellow weather warnings now extended until 11am tomorrow for snow and ice. Rain/sleet/snow continually falling, whatever is driving down our road in warm cosy cars/vans seem to forget the conditions outside 😲. Not that there's much traffic even the buses are struggling but running.

Decided best place is indoors,  I'm sure I'll find something to fill the hours! We don't need much and milk can be 'rationed'. Hopefully by tomorrow things will be a little more 'normal' 😉.

Keeping the roads flowing is a difficult one. Grit but insufficient use doesn't work but is it sensible just to drive if it's not essential? I note from local news that Freeport Braintree was closed yesterday due to weather conditions but is open today. I won't be visiting - not my idea of fun even in the summer!

I swept a path through the slush to the shed so going to the freezer is slightly better. Put down a few handfuls of rock salt as some footprints were thick ice! Don't suppose it will last long because of what's falling.

It seems all schools in our town are open but I didn't see many heading to school this morning.  We're on the footfall  route of 4 schools.

Glad you're home safely Oneputt don' worry about dirty van, your area in the latest weather warning. Everyone's car/caravan/garden looks the same in the snow 😉. How was Mrs Oneputt camping adventure?

Reading my post again and what the Highways said it was not because they did not have enough vehicles it was because not enough of Us were useing the roads surprised

Did Pizza Hut close down their delivery service for your area then, JVB66? So what happens to the drivers that are on duty that day?

Yes, just put in new batteries 2 or 3 days back.

However, thankfully, normal service has been resumed.  I took the batteries out of the remote  for a while, and completely switched off the TV overnight, and this morning all was back to normal.  Most odd.

Well, Joules in Holt was a big disappointment to MIL! She didn't buy a thing. I didn't even have time to finish my coffee before they came and found me. Never one to be outdone, her credit card did make several appearances.

Overheard at Blickling yesterday whilst admiring the bespoke home made reindeers.

Father to young lady "This reindeers name has fallen off. We've seen all of the others so do you know what name is missing?

After a few moments thought the reply was  "Jennifer" and the young lady happily flounced off.smile

The delivery service is the life blood of the business. The losses would be huge without it. If the roads were impassible, the customers wouldn't be able to travel into the premises to collect either! They would probably have to close down that day and send all the staff home with no pay!

Sadly, they lost their last Setter earlier this year and I think they've decided they're at the age where they probably won't have another - they've had maybe 8 or 9 over more than 40 years so a very big wrench for them. I think Harry & Lady are going to be in for a weekend of completely being spoiled  though - they'll  love that! smile

Much talk on the TV about schools being closed. Are they all wimps these days? I remember walking a mile to school through a foot of snow . A little bit of snow and the country grinds to a standstill.
