Weekenders spoil it yet again

now they lost a site in cumbria
Now which one is that, have I missed something? Or are you in fact referring to Braithwaite Fold which went years ago? There certainly have been other closures since then.

more members attracted by the perceived freebies and less pitches available result misery.
Well not quite, if the sites were bad then nobody would go back no matter how many freebies. The problem is that club sites are so good people want to return. Demand exceeds supply. I know that is IMHO but why else are they so full?

Yes, which one?

I was referring to Braithwaite, very sorry for any confusion.

If it is supply and demand then should the price rise a lot more, perhaps that is in the pipeline we await our fate.

People cannot always book too far in advance, for multiple reasons. To say first come first served is hardly "clubable".
Why is first come first served not "clubable",
It is surely the fairest way after all, no seniority, no favouritism, but everyone has the same chance

Indeed onepjg. If pitches are hard to come by who is going to try and book a week before out of choice. They can make a booking and if they realise nearer the time that they will not be able to make the dates then release. I was fortunate in 2016. I had at least 11 hospital appointments. I was able to have them fitted around my holidays through the year.

Just a suggestion:
Perhaps there could be a system of quotas - where some pitches are held for people wanting to book a week for example, until within, say, X (to be determined) days. And some weekend pitches are held over for last minute weekend bookings. A good booking website should be able to cope.
The problem with this is that it is not only denying weekenders but also many, like me, that tour site to site staying 4 or 5 nights on each but who will make use of many club nights. Not sure that this is any fairer than first come first served although it would not effect me personally because I do book early.

WTG is at least looking at the bigger picture so to speak and thinking how others might benefit...
In this thread and the other one recently discussed of a similar vein, there’s an underlying selfishness with the attitude...
’I don’t agree with this idea because it will affect the way I do things’
and...
’if the way this Club operates doesn’t suit you, there’s plenty of options elsewhere’
plus a little bit of...
’I like things the way they are, why change something that works’
The term ‘Club’ in the context of The Caravan and Motorhome Club... couldn’t be further from the truth

Nigel, in one of your posts, possibly on the other thread, you mentioned you went with the other club because this one did not release dates soon enough, and that perhaps a rolling programme would be a better system.
Clearly that would be more beneficial for you.
However, it was just a suggestion, and I took it in that spirit. I could equally have thought you were wanting things changed to suit yourself. Folk are making suggestions, some of which you don't particularly agree with. I don't think it is particularly fair to start accusing folk in this manner.

You are wrong in that I want the booking regime to change to suit me, I’d be pleased if it did, but I’m more than happy, and do, adapt my habits to get the best out of the current way things are done. It is absolutely clear others are less compliant and I’m not apologising for something I see, every time I read content on this forum.
For reference, I don’t have children. Anyone is welcome to read back through recent posts I’ve made to determine the relevance of this.

But then again, I wont take a table for 4 in a coffee shop, if there is a table for two available. Despite the fact I’d probably be more comfortable.

I think it is

'First come first serve' is not selfish its the way the vast majority of businesses operate worldwide. That's just a fact of life so you either walk away and return home or find an alternative. I might not be happy with that for a moment but soon get over it and just get on with my life.
PS. I would join the other club not because of deposits (or not) but because they have a cool president in Julie Bradbury

For me that depends on table availability. If there is an odd 4 place free and a number of 2 place tables I will use the 2 place table for coffee. If there are plenty of 4 place tables vacant that will be my choice. Good manners mixed with common sense IMO

Ironic that this Club book Matt Alwright to front their PR. Well known for presenting programmes that generally cover consumer rights, or in other words, complaints.
First come first served isn’t selfish, but not is it ideal either and is restrictive to some, such as those with family upon which their leisure time is confined to specific weeks of the year.
Reluctance to embrace a few changes for the benefit of others... now that’s...

I said 'The problem with this is that it is not only denying weekenders but also many, like me, that tour site to site staying 4 or 5 nights on each but who will make use of many club nights. I see no selfishness there Nigel. I am thinking of many that tour in 4 or 5 day hops but book (or try to book sites) close to their trip. Also of many weekenders. Whilst I can book well ahead there are few changes that are likely to affect me personally other than a maximum number of bookings that can be held.
You could say that 'I am alright Jack' but no matter what the changes that will remain the same for me as if I can't book a CC site in advance I shall book elsewhere. Late availability only has a marginal effect on me when I may wish to stay an extra night etc. Far rather book with CC however as it makes for greater flexibility should I wish to move on sooner or stay later and cut down on next site.
The only point that I can see affecting the club is the that sites full at weekend with an extra influx precludes availability for longer stays which might boost weekday occupation. As I said elsewhere C&CC have addressed this with minimum 3 day booking periods on some popular sites in popular times. This applies to all days of the week. It would not affect me but obviously impacts on weekenders. Most changes will affect some group. I can think of a number of ways to get more 'bums on seats' so to speak. Whatever happens CC sites will fill at weekends whether by weekenders or more staying on site and spanning weekends.
Yes I am happy with present set up and probably will be with any tweaks to the system.

They do not allocate you a pitch, they show you a pitch which they think will suit taking in ground conditions, length of unit ect , you do not have to take but you can choose another, this idea of pitch allocation is often stated but in practice it is beneficial to members.

My partner used to be a teacher. Teachers are constrained to certain times of the year. How would they cope? They tend to book ahead knowing full well that they will be seeking a holiday in peak times.

A benefit that I am more than happy to forego
I know the type of pitch that might suit me based on half a dozen preferences. I also know that I am not likely to be able to fulfil all. I really do not wish somebody waiting on my making my mind up. On a CC site I normally find what will suit me fairly easily.

I find the CC&C system of leading me to a pitch after asking for our preferences works very well, much better than the CC method of giving you a map and telling you to wander around to look at available pitches then having to walk back to the office to tell them which pitch you have chosen. This method also leads to a clutter of rigs around the office while their owners wander.
When shown a CC&C pitch if it doesn't suit simply say why and you will be shown another more suited. As I say our experience is positive.
