Sadly, I'm back home now Brue, Just for a few days then Dental hygienisisisits before I start the "Summer Steam Tour" !! That'll take me to the Cotswolds/Malvern etc, York, before Salisbury, Dorset Steam Fair, then back to Thetford Forest
.And all, bar for the G D S F, are on CLUB SITES !! SO THERE thrrruupptt

Well ,,the day started cloudy and cool ,but now brilliant sunshine and warm here in East Kent.Had an easy day today (after yesterdays party!!) Just managed to give the grass at the B/yd a 'hover' trim !!.Might feel more like it tomorrow !!0 -
On the Club policy, the "contents cover" is a separate figure from the "caravan and associated equipment" figure. Our contents are covered by our house insurance, so we do not insure the caravan contents as it all comes in the house when we are not away. Gives a good saving.
However, the basic caravan replacement cost does not include anything that is not standard, or comes with the van, like mover, air con, awning etc, so that has to be added if you wish to insure it.
Mover, air con etc etc can easily add an extra £5k

Today has been the last day of our current stay down in Cornwall, and what a gorgeous day it's been! We went up the coast to do one of our favourite walks from Bedruthan Steps. It's a beautiful stretch of coastline - looking north you can see past Constantine Bay to the lighthouse on Trevose Head and in the opposite direction all the way down to St Ives. We stopped for a picnic at Porth Meor beach which can only be reached on foot so we usually have the place to ourselves. Too hot and hilly for Harry who stayed at home and Lady was glad to find a nice cooling stream near the beach. We found this display of pebble statues on the headland there - obviously Sophie and Bert had been hard at work!

Porth Meor beach is normally deserted and very peaceful but today, no sooner had we sat down and got our lunch out than, with a huge clattering and throwing up of spray, this search and rescue helicopter came and hovered over the rocks directly opposite us. They gave us our own display of winch work for 20 minutes or so. I don't think the pictures really do justice to how close they were or to the skill of the pilot and the guys being winched up and down. We think it was just an exercise, not a full scale rescue, but it was fascinating to watch.

We watched quite a few of the planes fly over home on their way to the airshow last week.

It it worth noting that not all insurance companies will offer pro rata refunds on cancellation. They also sneak in admin charges. I only know this as I use to work in insurance. It's always worth checking.

Busy at work, mainly due to the fact I had to sort out a few accounting errors, and can only blame myself

I must admit that when we had a caravan I did exactly the same as Malcolm. As it was a new van the new for old was more generous and because the policy had a no claims element it tended to reduce each year. It might be a bit head in the sand but I was not sure I wanted it to be insured by anyone other than the Club. I do look more carefully at other insurance policies

It has been nice and hot down here in Devon today this morning we went in to Brixham and had lunch at The Rio Fish and Chip shop which as usual was excellent after a quick walk around the town we took a drive to Slapton sands which was lovely but very busy. Now back atthe van we are going to sit out with a drink and cook Pizzas on the Cadac, . Hope everyone else is having a nice day too

Very humid tonight, looks like we might get a thunderstorm or two over the next few days....but the weather people keep saying that and nothing happens. Would they now mind moving it forward to next week, after we've been away......

Wow! we got summer today here still blustery but blue skies all day and warm enough for crops.
Busy in the garden today but not gardening, decided to wash the 2 decks and the furniture we have on them. OH had the hose cleaning the motorhome so I had to make do with buckets. Everything looking nice and clean now, even had lunch sitting outside.
Motorhome looking good, most of the tar speckles have been removed but its taken 2 days so far and we still have 1 more side to do, then it will all need to be polished still it will be worth it.
Tomorrow is forecast to be another good day if so then I think we will play hooky and have a day out, was thinking of going to St Andrews but that might be a bit to cool so will probably go to Loch Katrine instead. The bike batteries are on charge and the cool box is sat waiting for a picnic to go in.

My insurance policy says Caravan and associated equipment £27,500, contents cover £500. Surely associated equipment would include aircon, motor mover etc. wouldn't it?

Calm, bright day here so already been pottering in the garden, pulled the rest of the pea and broad bean plants up and composted. Had really good crop. Been eating runner beans for 2 weeks now, the neighbours are going to benefit from our 3 week absence

Calm still start here in Essex but rather humid last night again. A bit of garden tidying before meeting a friend for lunch. Should do some internal work but forecast wet later in the week, so gardening it is. Have a friends dog arriving Thursday evening Friday forecast wet wet wet. Why is it when we dog sit weather is wet???

Malcolm I'd be toting up the value of my worldly goods and chattels on an annual basis if I were you. You have no other insurance to call on for them. From what you comment on having in your awning chairs tables cookers cool box heater etc etc I'd say it would be tight 😉.
Out of interest are caravan claims reduced due to being under insured like property certainly was? Long time since I worked in insurance claims, mainly vehicle but did a stint of household, and was very shocked to find uninsured claims took another %age hit for the amount underinsured! Talk about hit you when you're down. As a result annually we totally up our contents and our bricks and motar to ensure we have sufficient cover. Should you be unlucky enough to make a claim you're not in a good place and to find you are well out of pocket puts the tin hat on it to put it mildly 😉.

I just hope I never have to make a claim! I think living in it reduces the risk of loss and also having a well matched outfit when travelling. Our caravan is occupied most of the time when sited because my wife is here whilst I'm at work.
We went for a walk up Highdown Hill at 08:30 this morning, thereby getting the benefit of an outing before it got too hot. It was reasonably cool as there was a breeze. We had to wait to visit Highdown Gardens as the opening time is 10:00 a.m. We walked around the Rose Garden and past the fish pond and waterfalls into the Chalk Garden and then through the Trees and Shrubs Garden. By this time it was 10:30 and getting a little too hot to stay out much longer. So we made our way down the hill, crossing over the road at Titnore Lane and back down the footpath to the site.
We're now cooling off in the airconditioned caravan.

What is the replacement cost of your van, that will have been in the letter you got for renewal. Ours is now £26920, call that £27k, yours will be something similar.
No way is £27500 going to cover it when you add the cost of a mover, air con, awning, battery, gas bottles, water and waste containers etc etc!
You need to review the sum every year and make sure you add enough to the van replacement cost to cover all that. The renewal letter makes it clear that it is your responsibility to have enough cover.
I take it you have never increased the sum insured since you first took out the policy?

Malcolm I very much hope you'll never have to make a claim. Yes living in it means it's less likely to be stolen but doesn't rule it out 😲. And heaven forbid fire?? Not only do you need to ensure that the insurance you have covers the full cost of putting you back in the same situation as you are when you claim. Also if you live in it where will you live whilst sorting out replacement of caravan plus contents? Household insurance will offer cover for costs incurred whilst your property is uninhabited- caravan cover will assume you have somewhere else to live! So possibly won't offer emergency accommodation even as you're not on holiday.
I know you often ignore good advice offered here but out of respect for you and your wife I would take a good long look at the consequences of your current situation. Do your insurers actually know you live fulltime in your caravan? Surely that will affect wear and tear if nothing more.
I'll say no more on the subject but I really feel you should look seriously at your current situation and the future for you and your wife in more ways than one. Only when you have listened to someone sobbing on the phone when they find they weren't covered for their loss and there is nothing that you can do, it really makes you realise that you and only you are responsible for ensuring you insure to the best of your ability.

Glad you've enjoyed a walk or two this morning. My you probably do need to move further north where the temperature doesn't reach such heady figures 😂. Personally I think it's just lovely, nice and warm and a bit of a breeze. I do hope you wife likes cold, yes I'd describe 16c as cold rather than cool, for inactivity indoors 😲

We've been over this before. Keep calm and carry on.
Just about to pack the van for the Bristol Harbour Festival, that should be lively, apart from music and entertainment there are some interesting big sailing ships coming in, I think OH will have to abandon thoughts of his usual harbourside fishing.
