Liber-t tags.
I have just received my tag through the post and am aware of where it needs to be located on my windscreen but the query I have is that my Trigano Tribute has an overcab and I am concerned that the tag will not be visible because of the overhang if placed at the top of the screen. My screen can be electrically heated - does this preclude me from placing the tag elsewhere? Anyone had this problem? I would appreciate any information about overcoming it. Thanks.

A heated windscreen does sound like it might have an adverse effect. I could only suggest that before you stick it to the screen, you temporarily hold the tag to the screen in various place & see what happens. Other than that, I think you'll have to wave it out of the window.

Ours continually comes unstuck so I just hold it up in the windscreen as we approach and it works ok.

We have a slight overhang on our Bailey Motorhome and I found putting the holder fractionally above resting windscreen wiper level works for us. Have a look at this link http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/French%20MotorhomeTag2.jpg for an illustration of the above. It is still about the same height as it would be in a car.

I was able to site ours as shown, in the XTrail. However, had a terrible problem pulling it off the clip, once we finished with it. So it may be easier just to wave it as you approach. Only used the standard gates so far as we have been towing. They seem a bit slow to react, we were stopped for about 5 seconds before it went beep. Long enough anyway for me to wonder if it was working.

Why would you remove it?
Ours has been in situ since we acquired it

Might be unlikely that someone would break in for it, but I prefer not to leave anything in the vehicle that might increase the risk. Despite the stippled bit of the windscreen, it is obvious what is there, particularly in France. Just my choice.

We towed our caravan with a BMW X5 and occasionally had trouble with the tag. Holding it out of the window sometimes seemed to be the only way to get it to work. On one occasion I got out and started walking around with a queue building up behind us. Needless to say, the barrier opened when I was at the furthest point from the car!
We have had no problem with the Motorhome so I guess the windscreen is different. I always find the automatic. "Drive through" barriers the best. I figure that they must have more sensors to work so quickly.

I don't think you understand. With a tag the toll charges would be automatically passed to your Clarity card without you walking around to poke it manually into the machine. Same card, same charges, same exchange rate.

Just checked my account Oneputt and they actually charge a 2% administration fee. However the exchange rate on euros was fine. Better than what we recieved at the bank for our euros. In any event with what we are going to spend on autoroutes, I am not too concerned. It is just so much more convienient. Plus no risk of getting your credit card not returned from the machine, or notes jamming when we used those.

Last year when I travelled to Italy (in a hurry) I used the auto-routes and the total cost of tolls was £84. Using my Clarity card I got the commercial exchange rate, no commission and the only downside was the extra couple of minutes to get through, no jammed machines, cards, notes etc.
Not trying to make a case not to use the tag system, just making folk aware

This is one reason reason why the ATMB tag is better, we get billed to our Clarity card in Euros, no admin fees, no forex costs etc

Exactly.

I have used Sanef Tolling Tag for about four years now. I have never found their administration charges particularly high, the exchange rate is always pretty reasonable. I also have the advantage that all my billing is in English. Far less hassle than paying at each toll point, particularly in a motorhome. There are other tags which are available but they do seem to have extra layers of complication like bills not being available in English. OK you can charge to a credit card which you can't do with Sanef but you also have to remember to update your account when the card expires. That is the beauty of choice we can all do what suits us.

We overcome the problems of Sanef tags......by simply paying at the toll booths.
We feel that we can spare the extra 30 seconds every 50 miles or so. We are on holiday, after all!
With the cost of the tag and the 2% charge for giving the same credit as we get for free on our credit card, I reckon it must cost at least 250 euros per hour for the time saved by using a tag. Provided it works, of course.

We don't have a tag, because we rarely use the peage (particularly when towing), but having driven (solo) along a stretch of autoroute I'm beginning to think that it might be worth buying one because getting out, with ticket and card in hand, to go around to the passenger side, to insert ticket and card, is a real pain................... even worth the set-up fee, perhaps, and the €1.60 per month. How much easier would it be to just drive through..............!

The ATMB tag as mentioned here before is so cheap it's almost free. €3 postage charge, no deposit, €1.60 only for months when it is used...
At least it is if the offer is still open.
We've had a tag for years now (originally Sanef now ATMB) and find it really useful.

my co-pilot just stuffs the crdit card in the slot and away we go....
having said that, the roads in Spain (particularly) are so good that any road feels like a Mway, hence us not using too many tolls....don't think the spanish have a word for pothole

Our tag is stuck to the screen just behind the mirror, has never fallen off and is reliable - so far!
We find it so much easier than slowing, avoiding the concrete, stopping and finding cash/credit cards - particularly as my wife is 5 foot nothing and has to kneel on the seat with half her body out of the window trying to reach the machine. Plus we barely slow when we use the 30kph lanes.
What is a few more Euros for the monthly fee etc compared to the convenience and especially the overall cost of your holiday. Wouldn't be without now.

What a fuss about a simple exercise. On the 800 miles to Spain you only go through a few tolls unless you drive off at every exit. My wife can't do the business so I get out have a stretch, have a scratch (it's a man thing) ticket in, card in, press for receipt drive on. Simple!

We use our ATMB tag a lot in France. My wife cannot reach the payment machine from the Motorhome and it would be really awkward half opening the door etc. For the minimal cost per month used we find it worthwhile and insignificant compared to the fuel and toll costs. Brilliant when you get the automatic drive-through toll gates.

We'll be off in a couple of weeks and it will be the first time we have used our ATMB tag, or any tag come to that. Has anyone ever experienced a tag not working at all, not just in the wrong position on the windscreen but a total malfunction? I'm sure we will probably have a bit of trepidation using it for the first time. I can just imagine the scene, Brit car and caravan with a long string of French vehicles behind - and the tag doesn't work !!!
