I'm surprised the club allows potential defamation of a (named) company on this thread on an open forum

That's right, EasyT. That's the reason why I put up with my last employer for so long! Jobs that pay less money tend to be easier to get than jobs that pay more.

That's right, Triky. Since December 2016, I have been using the Smart car for deliveries. So 80 pence per drop should cover the running costs of this particular car, taking into account no road tax.

If I do 4 deliveries per hour for Pizza Hut, that would be an extra £9.60 for a 3 hour evening shift on top of the £7.50 minimum wage per hour. So £32.10 in total for 3 hours work. With my previous employer, I was earning an average of £35 per day for 11 hours which was less than £3.50 per hour and no fuel allowance.

Busy but lovely weekend.  A friends 70th birthday lunch on Saturday and then out for lunch with some long standing friends that we hadn't seen for a few months.  After lunch we all went back to one couples home for coffee.  The men watched the football while we women sat in another room and had a good catch up.  Didn't get home until 6.00pm.  We have 2 grandchildren for the day today as it is still school holidays here.  They seem to have gone on forever as 2 grandchildren who live over the county boundary broke up nearly 2 weeks before Easter and went back a week ago and these 2 broke up the day before Easter and don't go back until Wednesday.

I simply made a general statement that people should not encourage unscrupulous employers......whoever they may be,

No deal certainly frees up a lot of time that can be used for caravanning tasks such as filling the Aquaroll daily, emptying the waste, putting the awning up and then taking it down 21 days later, moving sites after 21 days; especially as you have to leave in the morning and arrive at another club site in the afternoon.

Having said that, my new job should fit in well with all that because it's just 4 evenings a week.

You know, reading some of the posts on here, I wondered whether people realise that a couple, with no other income and savings of less than £10,000, would be paid Pension Credit to top up their state pension to £243.25 per week.

The strange thing is that they will often be quite happy to claim their state pension (which is a benefit) but won't claim Pension credit because they see that as 'claiming benefits'.

    Very strange.

A number of benefits are dependent on you having paid NI contributions. Working Tax Credit (a benefit) is dependent on you working a minimum number of hours.

Went to van and removed empty gas bottle, will change in next few days.  Van looks quite good so decided not to clean it as off out in a few days. Turned a little chilly here on the coast so may light the fire later on.

The difference is that the State Pension is not means tested. Pension credit is means tested.

I have both elec and gas from EDF.

I receive an estimated bill every quarter for the quarter's usage, standing charge etc., read the meters, submit the correct figures online and get a revised bill a few day later which I pay online with my debit card. I won't have any truck with direct debit type arrangements. Suppliers send me a bill and I pay it, maintaining complete control of my finances. Nevertheless, they keep offering me the 'facility' to pay by Direct Debit etc. and 'save' £10 a year or some such ludicrously trivial amount.

In the late 50's the gas or elec man called, emptied the meter coin box onto the kitchen table and counted the money. My mum would 'buy back' the foreign coins she'd used which we kept as an emergency backup since they couldn't be used anywhere else in the village.

We're with EDF and they've just whacked the prices up. We're on a fixed price deal til next year but I am hoping to find a lower one elsewhere. Yesterday I found one to compare and then found found the EDF website was out of action. Will try again later today.

Is there anything wrong with that? Pension Credit is there to help those who have been unable to provide themselves, for all sorts of different reasons,  with alternative back up to their basic state pension throughout their working life. Qualifying for Pension Credit also opens up the opportunity for other benefits, at least that is my understanding. Pension Credit is not there to protect someone's savings it's to meet genuine need. I tend to agree with Ian in that why put pride before the opportunity to have a slightly better and financially secure life? If you are entitled to it claim it.

    David

You do not make it clear but I presume that you refer to Malcolm's dealings with D2G Rowena

It's very clear to most of us. I am in agreement with Rowena's comments and see no need to challenge them in any way.

Hi EasyT, The situation regarding Malcolm's past employer. We need to be aware that comments could potentially be libelous plus it's taking this topic off track a little. Like I say, I'm happy to pass on email addresses to Malcolm for anyone who is interested in keeping in touch with Malcolm about this but do ask that this is no longer discussed in this discussion.  Many thanks.

Not a challenge fella. Ro refers to 'the situation that Malcolm has posted about is no longer discussed on here.' I simply wished to be clear that it was only in regard to D2G. Hence my question. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
