It don't work that way JV as I've found. I have a smart meter but I still get an online request to supply the meter reading every 3 months. I don't think the energy company's are totally confident in their own equipment

It was a bright sunny start to the day here in the broad acres, but it's now clouding over. I'm going to tackle the big hill for our walk this morning. It's 1 in 4 at the start levelling off to 1 in 6 for the rest of the way. I've not been on this walk since I had my knee done so it'll be interesting. There three other hills in the walk, a couple of them 1 in 10 but at least the last mile and a half are all downhill . Wish me luck🤞

Have a good day folks. I'm off to see my Mum. My Mum gets the benefit of being cared for by quite a few people who've chosen to live and work in the UK. They are lovely and I'm so glad they've chosen to come here and go into care work.

Not trying get political, but the cost of energy may come down to the suppliers but will only ever go up to us ,because of the "hidden"costs we pay through our bills of the "green taxes" that we are paying to them to not use coal
Ps lovely morning ,but now starting to cloud over, will try for the Abbey again unless bus going so where else arrives

Just check Zoopla and they reckon the energy bills for my house is £112/month when in fact it's £54/month. Just can't believe much that is written anywhere. Our supplier is Ovo Energy and if we are in credit at the end of the year they will pay 3% on that credit. We have solar panel and a log burner so that helps reduce consumption of gas and electricity, every little helps. My tax free FIT payments pay over double the cost of my energy bills.

It must vary with supplier, or perhaps how well it works as ours uses a mobile sim to transmit the data. We have had one for about 5 years and now they only come to check the meter every two years. Supposedly a safety check, but really I suspect to see if you are trying to illicitly obtain electricity. I think the sim transmits data every month and this can be viewed as a graph on my pad. They don't adjust the DD payments fast enough to totally cope with our monthly absences, however it is a lot better than pre smart meter days, when they used to fluctuate widely.
Nice day here, off to distribute the church mag (I drive) then for a nice walk in the forest.

My daughter, as you probably all know ☺, lives in NZ every house has a smart meter for gas and electric and have since she's been there 10 years. They get an online bill every month and amount paid by variable DD. My point is technology is out that and proven so why is it not happening here? W hyland so expensive? I believe I heard £200-300 per house., even with bulk buying!! I also heard shopping suppliers if you have one and it doesn't work 😦. You couldn't make it up.

Update - having emailed British Gas to query this I had a reply this morning saying, basically "fair enough, how does £36 a month sound"?
Still an increase of about 25% but a bit more reasonable I thought. If they'd suggested that in the first place I don't think I'd have queried it at all!

Few hours on our own several of the wedding guests out for brunch, we have several cars outside to prove it! Son met the brother of uni friend at the wedding, bridesmaid hubby. Bride friend of his girlfriend from uni. Very small world.
Lovely walk with the dog yesterday afternoon except she found a new filthy ditch at the very end - 4.5 years of walking there and not been found before. We are used to guiness dig but she came out symmetrically black and cream including her head😲😲😲.
Blood pressure monitor came apart 😲 after 4 readings. Each time it pumped up my hand went purple and had up to 8 pumps ouch. Back to nurse in the evening. She tried again but even she agreed it couldn't stay on I really do have a problem with it. Reckons it's never come apart before, but I only bent down to get washing up liquid from undress the sink, not aware it was caught on anything so not really fit for purpose! Upshot I'm now using my own machine at home every two hours. Seems more comfortable and much lower readings. Got to make Dr appointment - away next week so have to phone 8am on first day she's in after, 5 may, as all bookable appointments for her allocated. Hopefully that won't be an issue as they are very good.
We've even had some dampness here at best drizzle but ground was wet and a trickle into the water butts but not enough 🙁. Brightening up now.
Enjoy your day folks.

Glorious sunshine in South Cheshire this morning, bloomin' cool tho' -- perhaps it's just trying to get me used to the chill I'm going to find in Scotland from Wednesday onwards .
Just printed off 'leccy bill, a bit early but I'll be away for 6 weeks and I'm bound to forget it if I don't strike while the memory is working OK !! Smart meter (pshaw ! Thrrruuuppt ! ) Mine was fitted sometime back but had two bods at the door -- We always do at least one visit per year -- just checking it -- Technology -- bah rhubarb twaddle !!
Have fun you lot, enjoy your power -- till the wind drops, the cloud covers the sun and somebody tells the tides to stop !!

That doesn't really seem logical in my case SL, according to the literature that came with the smart meter it sends data hourly using wifi, if it's tampered with it would surely become apparent to the energy company. Why then is a smart meter fitted if they also want the same 'customer input' as it was pre smart meter?

How many speakers/music systems is too many?
Because I've just been into town and bought a Bose Minilink Bluetooth speaker.
I know we've got a Bose Soundtouch Wifi speaker system in four rooms. And a Bose speaker/docking station for my Ipod Classic. And an old Sony Walkman MP3 player (and speaker/docking station). And an old Creative something or other in the caravan.
But all of them need power! This one is rechargeable.
It's all the cat's fault. When the weather permits we sit out on the patio with a glass of wine and the door open into the sitting room, so we can listen to music from the speaker there. But lately the cat has been sneaking into the house via the open door. And she's not a house cat - but one of two farm cats that turned up last autumn and adopted us. They can sit on the table in the porch, but not on the posh settees in the sitting room.
So I had to buy a battery powered Bluetooth speaker, and close the door. Didn't I? And it will do for the caravan!
P.S. it's not all high tech music here. On Thursday at the Merch stall at the Police Dog Hogan gig, I bought a vinyl copy of their new album - to play on the other music system (Pioneer separates).

Sunny with clouds today and wind of course, still quite chilly and its going to get worse. ABM pack you long johns and woolly vests, we are getting an arctic chill coming from Sunday night. They have even forecast snow even down to lower levels.
Busy in the garden today 6 hrs, oh my aching back and knees. I've been crawling under the Leylandii hedges we have 2 of them, all done now and nice and weed free. cleared out a load of big rocks that I was keeping to 'do' something with but have changed my mind now. Cut grass x 2 lawns, and cut back hard a Forsythia bush that was getting a bit out of shape, hopefully by the time we return it will have put on some new growth. Garden looking good once again.
BB have a good time with your golf buddies.

Another beautiful day, went to Witney this morning, there is a lovely sewing and knitting shop there, and I bought some more wool for second cushion cover.
Gave the hedge and quick trim this afternoon , then took the caravan back to storage. Should have been collecting new van this weekend, but as it's been delayed won't need to take current van to dealers.
Just about to pour myself alarge glass of red wine.
Bakers2, hope you have a lovely time away next week
Malcolm good luck with the new job, hope it works out ok for you.

Just back home from 6 nights in Cornwall. Home for a few days and the off to Conkers C&CC site, just up the road. Doing our usual extended May Day holiday weekend away with friends. Daughter and Son-in-law are going to house sit but will be with us during the day. Fingers crossed for the weather - it's been great in Cornwall this week.
Hope everyone is well. Haven't had chance to read all the posts - I've slipped behind somewhat this week.

A lovely day here in sunny Lancashire.
Instead of going out for the day I decided to be a good boy by rubbing down and painting our wrought iron gates. I'm racking up the brownie points but I don't know what for yet.
