Visit to the optician today to get the progress of the cataract in my right eye. Still not of interest to the NHS, so another visit in a years time. One interesting test he did was to place a pin hole lense over my right eye. I could then actually see the cataract. Not what I expected, rather wispy with totally opaque areas and a few clear holes with perfect vision.
As part of the eye check up they take photos of the back of the eye, which require eye drops to dilate the pupil. Fortunately I new from last year they would do this so OH came to drive. Otherwise I would have spent rather a lot of time drinking coffee as they took a couple of hours to wear off.

Another hot and sunny day today.
We caught the local bus into Funchal and then got another local bus to the Botanical Gardens in the hills above town. Good thing is, if you get on another bus within 45 minutes of the last one, it doesn't take another journey credit from your card (you charge up the card with trips at 1.25 euros each - a saving on the individual fare price of 1.95 euros).
The gardens looked an absolute treat, with all the flowers out in bloom. The gardens are close to the huge fires that spread across the island last year, but apart from a few singed trees, that was the only sign of damage.
A lovely day out

Good luck with the filling Brue. I chatted with my dentist last week at a check up about a very sensitive tooth, which sensitive toothpaste copes with discomfort lasts seconds but it's not pleasant at the time dentist asked whether it lasted minutes or hours, if it gets to minutes it'll be done. Discussion evolved and it'll be a nerve removal and special filling. Said I'd give it a bit longer 😂. He's very good and gentle and says he's done worse to me 😲. I'm the result of early NHS dentists paid for work done nearly every tooth has some sort of filling 😟
Been glorious here again today no rain but chilly wind. Forecast rain again for tomorrow hopefully it'll be at home and not on the coast.

I'm the same with fillings done in childhood, not good. This one involves a gold crown done years ago which might prove to be a problem (so I am told...)
I was watching our local news tonight as we have a visiting Humpback Whale on the Devon coast. Seen today around Berry Head so might be lucky to see it on our break, the weather forecast is improving.

Best of luck to Brue and Bakers regarding teeth. I had another session with the KillerDriller yesterday. A nice long 75 minutes worth. The cap she put on 6 weeks ago had to be drilled off etc.etc. She apologised when she'd finished as she was so wrapped up in solving an ongoing problem that she'd forgotten about the anaethestic!
Now have temporary cap and we're hoping that it was the cap that was causing the problem.
Hope you both enjoy your trips away. We'd love to go but life getting in the way.

Oi please stop this incessant chatter about teeth and dentists 'cos I'm in on Friday for a filling, apart from a 'Spring Clean' next week it will be the final move in 6 months of Dentistry or Not as the case may be !! I've even booked Thetford Forest site so I can go to the place where the damage occurred ! Only to try to get compensation, of course !! ( R O F L M A O )

Will you all stop talking about how much rain you're having please? We are still very dry here in Essex. My garden is very ready for some - our water butts are only 1/3 full. Mind you we are forecast rain again tomorrow, as we have been for days and days gone by, we are off to coast tomorrow in our motorhome so what do you reckon? Mind you it is for R&R as since Christmas we've decorated 5 rooms done our reasonable size garden. Spring cleaned my mother's 3 bedrooms and really had a good go at her garden so I reckon we deserve a rest 😂

Just watched Living off the land with Kate Humble to find the bit I gatecrashed, didnt get cut. Unbeknown to me at the time I was strolling along licking my ice cream cornet 😲😲😂😂😂 They were filming by Bluebird cafe. whilst we visited Coniston last autumn. If I'd have known I'd have dressed for the occasion walking boots and three quarter length trousers and a backpack isn't a good look, only worn because you won't see anyone you know 😉😉😉

Late News. Our 17 year old Yaris had an MOT Monday 13th. It passed but I think OH is unsure whether that is good or bad as I suspect that after her 14th year of ownership she would like a change but has no idea what to.
However that is another story. When the car was 13 years old it had a new middle exhaust section. This Monday the 17 year old rear section was replaced as it had failed completely on Saturday coming back from a meal out. The surprise was that it had never been blowing and the pipe on the rear section simply broke in two 20 miles after the MOT. I always drive it enthusiastically when we are out and about and I am amazed that the rust lasted so long

Horrible wet morning here in North Wiltshire. Luckily yesterday was fine enough to get out and give the lawns their first cut of the year - I've been resisting up to now. Busy week at the bowls club; because of swaps during our recent holiday I've got matches very day this week - and so far 3 wins out of 3 (it can't last!). Lots of odds and ends jobs to do now before we head off down to Cornwall next week. It's a hard life!! (Smiley smiley)

We have had a poorly grandson at ours yesterday and today. He was sick in the night on Monday and was not at all well yesterday but although he is full of beans today the rules say he has to have 48 hours of school.
The new car sounds wonderful Triky - enjoy.
All the best to those with teeth problems. Hope all goes well with your wife's op Huskydog (and also the MOT). Have a great time in Cornwall moulesy.

I knew it would happen 😂. How long have I wanted rain? Started to rain as we left the house to collect our motorhome rather windy too. Never mind we loaded up in between showers and drove the 12 miles to our CL. Wouldn't have wanted to drive much further, most of the trip on sheltered roads but we experienced a couple of gusts on the open sections.Lovely warm welcome pitched into the wind and we have a nice rock with strong gusts but comfortable. Sky looks dark grey. Good job we've come for R&R. Van cosy lunch eaten siesta time 😉
Milliehull hope your grandson recovers quickly, sounds like he's there! Our granddaughter has had something similar. The 48 hour rule can be a pain but my daughter who teaches early years said 10 years ago child bought to school and taken poorly child says been sick all night! Or they're returned the following day in a similar state so they were glad to have it properly defined. Selfish spoil it for the few 😔

Bad timing by "John Smith from Open Reach" who just rang to to tell me there was a problem with our Broadband.
I could tell him that in a few months we won't need BT or Open Reach as we are part of a community led project (B4SW) - bringing hyperfast broadband (1000 mbps ) to our villages. And today volunteers have been laying ducting by our lane. In atrocious weather.

Another rainy day up here in the Pennines. That's six days running when we've had some form of precipitation. Five days of almost continuous rain and hail on and off for most of the day yesterday. If we could send it to Bakers that would be brilliant 😤

Bakers2 we will await that day with interest Openreach will only install fibre broadband where they are guaranteed to make a profit out of it by signing up enough customer. Many rural communities don't fit into this category so they rely on subsidies via Government/Local Authorities as a sort of blackmail to get systems installed where they think it is not commercially viable. What Goldie's post illustrates is that if a local community can get together and not use Openreach they tend to get a far better and faster quality of highspeed broadband so all power to them. Not sure what system they are using in Goldie's case, whether it is fibre direct to the premises or delivery via wifi repeaters.
