The same Club, just better...

I feel disappointed with this news...I see it as unnecessary expense with all the rebranding etc. Having been members of the 'Caravan Club' for 17 years we've never had any issue with the club until this year. Firstly the website has been messed up; we've not had the new directory to consult with regards to planning our holidays and we've experienced difficulty using the website to book breaks. We tried booking Haycraft in Swanage for 9 nights a couple of weeks ago but the website wouldn't let us. We then searched alternative sites locally and found one for nearly £100 cheaper for the duration. I feel the organisation's time, effort and money is not being used for the benefit of its so-called members.

Why has this change been made with-out reference to the members of what is supposed to be a MEMBERS CLUB? I have heard nothing until today's email!
The Caravan Club is world renowned as the premier club of it's type, the new name will mean nothing to all those millions who recognised the Caravan Club.
On top of this is the cost. How many millions of our (ie the membership's) money is the rebranding going to cost, new stationary, signage for Club sites and C.L.s. etc, etc, etc.
Having been a member for over 35 years I cannot understand why this is necessary, and I suspect from the secrecy shown those at East Grinstead know that if the membership had been consulted, as they should have been, they would have been told where to stick such a ridiculous idea.
The Club should be run for the MEMBERS by the MEMBERS, not some committees trying to justify their own existence.
My membership is under review.

What a load of PR speak! I'm not embarking on any kind of "journey" of "investment" in the future with a Name change and Logo change! As the original post says wasting thousands of pounds on something which dilutes the proud name of the Caravan Club. How is this investing in the future? I haven't seen any explanation what this is going to do for our club?

Sorry but re-branding is just an ego trip for consultants and paid top staff. It will bring no tangible benefits to members and will cost an absolute fortune that could be better spent on club sites, especially keeping some of the smaller ones open. It is also the first I have heard of this anywhere, if it was ever mentioned in the Club Magazine it must have been hidden somewhere. Consultation with members non existent.

Last year I suggested that a grab handrail be installed in ALL shower cubicles and not be restricted to disabled ones as it was difficult to identify one that had been fitted for use by the disabled. I was given short shift by the club. I now see they're to spend thousands on all this new logo/name nonsense and, despite their comments to the contrary, we know it will come out of our subs. eventually.
Is the nationwide wi-fi to be free or is this just another smokescreen to justify the outlay?
I don't recall being consulted by anyone and it was the same over the grab rails. I was told that members didn't want them!
Renewal of membership not certain here after 35 years.

Not sure if this has already been asked sorry if it has
If the new logo is going to make us all get inspired to get out and use more club sites, and encourage lots of new members, where are we all going to stay?
It seems to me that finding space at short notice is becoming a thing of the past, surely the money would be better spent buying new sites either existing or from scratch sites. Sites that are not 10 miles from the place they are advertised as being at.
If like the PR talk says it is to encourage new motorhome members then something needs to be done to increase the network
I think todays announcement has just made people think what is my membership money being used for?

I've just got to post again, I love it, love it, love it and I've got to say loving the reactions.
When I suggested this all those years ago there was almost a lynching. hahahahahaha
All my posts where always a little tongue in cheek which some people got and others had absolutely no comprehension.
But this? This is going to out do Brexit and Trump added together! Oh thank you The car avan & MOTORHOME Club, you've made my day. All joking apart, it's a great name and if you're going to allow car avans on sites still why not include this in the club name ;-)

I'm guessing then, you won't be embracing the change of direction the Club is trying to achieve?
You think the Club should have continued on in the same way, until the day YOU decide to give up caravanning?
I don't think this rebrand is aimed at satisfying your personal needs and I suspect your not the only one reviewing your membership. As one who would like to see the Club develop into an organisation with broader appeal, the 'old school' won't be missed.

Yes 'Fysh', I have no problem with it and can't understand why blood pressures are rising. I can still do all I want from the site irrespective of branding or colours, but do wish they would get behind the CL network and show its importance.
I'm a 'user' and that will continue until something better comes along.

We were in the "Caravan club" with our 1st trailer tent, our 2nd trailer tent, our 2 caravans and now onto our 2nd Motorhome....we didn't really bother 2 hoots about the name as long as we could be where we wanted when we wanted. Not sure if it warranted a name change must be a reason why unless there was lots of moaning from either camp about the name....if that was the case they have too much time on their hands

As a motorhomer I am very happy to see Motorhomes finally incorporated into the name. I like the new logo too. It's modern and fresh. Well done to all involved. Just hope this is not going to cost us members by way of a hike in membership fees or even more expensive Site fees which we already find prohibitively expensive. Now everyone, let's get out there and start enjoying all those wonderful sites we pay for. 👍🚐😁

Something as big as a change in branding should have been voted on by the members, why were we were not asked our opinion? Because we would most likely have voted no to this unnecessary waste of money when we could have just added the Motorhome name in the club on stationary, signage etc when it needed replacement. changing a name does not make a jot of difference when you had such a great name before. This decision is as another member suggested an ego trip. now we have lost the best clubs branding in the uk! Idiots!

There are still quite a lot of us caravanners about Myrtle. I think we might still outnumber you.

I too have little interest in the name or colour of logo. The news wasn't really exciting in accordance with my definition of exciting but I can wait until they drop the buzz words and tell us what the plans actually are.
I'm not struck by the new mission statement much and I don't think the club speaks with me in mind but I'm not bothered. All I want is value for money sites and services and I know where the door is when I don't get it.
I rarely admit to being a member anyway. Can't see the new name changing that.

Hello,
Re-branding will not cost a few pennies as someone mentioned. This exercise will cost thousands in extra costs that could be better spent. As a ‘Members’ Club, we should be advised the costs and not have management hiding behind closed doors.
Despite the logo explanations, I do not like it and it does not portray camping and motorhomes or anything to do with our hobby, so why this logo?
I don’t mind the change of name as we have an increase in motorhome purchase in this country and have shared CL’s for many years. They tend to take up less space as the majority have no car or awning.
I feel sorry for the CL owners who have to pay for the changes themselves while all Club Sites will have hundreds of pounds on unnecessary re-branded signage that was carried out a few years ago.

So, you don't really know what's going to be different? Or, at least, the marketing folks haven't explained it to you yet.
I've got no issues with a re-branding and, quite frankly, what a logo looks like is totally irrelevant to most people - the key thing is that it is, or becomes, familiar to its target market.
What I do tend to have an issue with (well, a wry smile at) is the guff and blurb that marketing people promulgate about what a logo means when we all suspect that, in reality, someone's made a (nice) drawing and retrospectively attached meaning to it.
I also worry about the mentality of an organisation that breathlessly informs me that such a development is exciting. It might be to a few closely involved insiders, but certainly not to the vast majority of its customers. Exciting is an overworked word in marketing.
As for 'focusing more on the experiences that you have when touring with us', I'm all for that. So, never again will I be faced with 'camp wardens' and 'jobsworths' (although, to be fair, they seem thinner on the ground these days). I'll get free WiFi like when in a Costa Coffee. I'll be able to reserve a pitch number when I book. I'll receive a text when my pitch becomes free so that, if I choose, I can turn up early. I could go on, but that's more an indictment of me than you.

Thing is Dave, what is happening is really quite simple, the club have looked at the huge jump in the membership of the C&CC with their youth inspired leadership (Julia Bradbury as the figurehead for example) and decided they want a bit of that.
Trouble is, they have gone too far and incurred huge costs in a re-branding exercise which was not needed and alienated a substantial part of the existing membership before attracting the new target audience. That's not good business practice when it's the internal management structure that needed revising and fresh young new blood introduced of the new target age range.
Hope you are well Dave and the FL is still going well. Mines never missed a beat

Having been a member on and off for 45 years all I can say is AT LAST someone realises there are motor home owner members. We live in Spain and travel back to UK too many times to be towing.
Shame about the logo change the horse shoe showed the routes of the club. Who on earth voted for the boss eyed eye???

Well from the large number of staff etc wandering
around the Stands at the N E C today, all wearing
the latest Titled & Logoed tops I think I already
know the answer to that, Navigateur !!
It also rubs it in a bit when my nice, new membership
card is already out of date before it starts at the
End Of February Nuff Said !

It's nice to hear that the committee was consulted. Strange that nobody thought to consult the membership. This is the kind of change that a club would normally debate and decide upon at an AGM or EGM. I don't feel strongly one way or the other about the logo but would like to know how much this new "branding" is going to cost.
