The same Club, just better...

There was still no need to alter that for 110 years has catered in its name for trailer caravans and motor caravans , as is the official name that both are known by, not a names game that suited the high costs of marketing departments

I've not read further than comment 9 but I think it is something the whole membership should have been consulted on. There may be 'representatives' but they are a minority of the membership.
If they don't contact the members they are supposedly representing then, frankly, they are not representing.

Too many posts to read them all but from what I have read so far this monumental decision is about as popular as a chocolate teapot. I am wondering if the heirachy might now have second thoughts or were thinking it was April 1st

The new signage simply says what it is, but the new branding is for opening the eyes of people to the joys of caravanning, etc, BUT by raising the pitch fees for weekend and school holidaysit defeats the object and it puts the working people and parents at a disadvantage. Maybe if the money spent on changing everything was put to reducing pitch fees for school holidays then maybe you would get younger people to join.

If I saw the new logo and colours on a shop as I walked down the high street, I would give the shop a miss. To me it it idicates a down market establishment, dowdy colours indicate a dowdy place.
The Red Pennant was reasonably easy to spot when trying to find a site. The new logo will not.
I agree with others, spend more on facilities. We were thinking of touring the Lake District but find that some sites do not have shower blocks.
Think again before more money is wasted.

A good point has been made. Members overwhelmingly wanted the ability to book pitch types and yet after two years trial it's been kicked into the long grass.
Could this be looked at again please? It's quite honestly all I want from a provider of pitches to park a leisure vehicle.

I doubt that very much, time will tell if this monumental decision is popular or not, by the membership quota.
The Club is appealing to a new breed of membership, the 'anti change' brigade will either have to get with it or ship out.

Thats where i had seen it before, so the marketing dept had been to a club site and bought an ice cream and when they said thats nice the person taking notes thought they were talking about the logo, i hope walls have not got it patented

If you think this Club is less of a business and more of a members organisation then I'm afraid you're a little deluded. Sure there is an elected committee but in real terms, this is more akin to a board of directors.
This organisation has competition and as such it needs to evolve to stay at the top. Just like any other business.

Walls ceased to exist years ago... they were sucked in by Unilever.
'Unilever Ice Cream' didn't have the same ring to it though

I agree with you. It's way behind its competitor in terms of delivery at the moment and needs to work really hard to shake off the image it has.
The problem is that being in a 'club' and paying a fairly substantial fee to access sites and services is actually really old fashioned and unappealing to my age group and younger. So there's a problem to overcome straight away.

1. Is this a legacy for Mr Chamberlain, the man whose credibility (if he had any to start with) went flying through the window when he tried to tow his caravan at speed up a clearly excessive incline (and on national TV), resulting in much damage and embarrassment to all his fellow caravanners?
2. When will us members be getting the letter stating how much the rise will be in our subscriptions?

I do not think anybody is saying anything negative about going forward its long been happening ,as we who have been members a "few years" will testify ,what is not req is interfering by "re branding" a 110 year trusted institution that is known worldwide by its name and logo , that has covered types of all caravans be it towed or as now some mostly pulled by an inbuilt engine

Am I mistaken or are the vast majority of folk moaning about the rebranding caravaners (of the trailer type, although I have never heard them referred to as "trailer caravans"). Do they think they are going to get less for their membership fees?
I know that some - not all but some - caravaners look down their noses at motorhomers. That could be because they are jealous of the fact that we can drive onto a pitch and have the kettle on in moments!
All the talk of the cost of this exercise - I would think it works out at a few pennies per member so IMO not worth getting worked up about.

Even if over 90% of members objected to the name change, the CC will still go ahead with the name change as they do not care what members who are paying their wages think as it seems in their opinion we are not worthy of being consulted!
Still not sure how rebranding is going to make the club better? Maybe someone could explain as it did not work for BA.

If anyone ever needed proof that people are resistant to change then they just need to read through the comments on this thread!.
Plus why does it matter how much the rebranding is costing, it's money they have sitting in the bank anyway and it's desperately needed!.
If anyone thinks the club brand was perfectly good before then just look at the average age of its members!. This is a very big problem and if they don't change and attract new and younger members they will be in big trouble in 10 - 20 years time.
Changing the name makes it look new and different to people outside. This then gives them the chance to get rid of the "club for old people" stigma and start with a fresh new look. I'm 26 and it's surprising how many people are surprised I'm in the "old persons Caravan club".

Where is the evidence that “Members overwhelmingly wanted the ability to book pitch types”. Some people on here expressed that opinion, but I for one am quite happy with the current arrangement.

I haven't read such a load of nauseating PR guff for ages. How much did the club pay for someone to write this insulting and patronising garbage? And, as someone has already pointed out, another lot of money is going too be wasted on a logo makeover.

A comment on just the middle paragraph.
No jealousy as I can pop out for fish and chips without having to disturb a single thing - not even my girl friend!
