It's nice up there Francis, The Inn is a good place to keep warm at this time of the year. I like that area. Hope you're enjoying your stay.
We had some snow flurries this morning but now it's just very cold, Rugby on the telly, fire lit, hunkering down time.

Decided the weather dictates a heart warming dinner so Roast Chicken and Roasties (with burnt bits as you have live dangerously every now and then) with all the trimmings. Either that or Quiche?
If it is Quiche then it's being basted quite regularly.
Too many snow flurries for caravan cleaning today.
Must go, another baste due.

An afternoon of filing and paperwork and listening to the radio for me while Mr H watches the rugby. It has been quite satisfying. The spare bedroom now looks much tidier.

Had a good night outlast night,when to a Nathan Carter concert with The Haleys as a warm up, they were great as usual, Nathans show fabulous,
Has been snowing on and off all day,not settled,so after getting paper and fresh baked rolls from local co,op have stayed in ,and have been trying to work out how to get all "spare" new caravan seating into loft

Quite a lazy day today really, went into town to close some unused bank accounts, then a bit of supermarket shopping. Home for lunch, a bit of a walk this afternoon, visit from one of OH's cronies. Now on here having a catch up, OH just made another cuppa so will have that then go and do tea.
The snow that we had has all gone and its just damp, cold and grey.
GasLow system delivered OH now going through it all with a hope of fitting it next week, they say it will get warmer after the weekend
Healthy eating is working I've lost 4lbs this week, OH 3lbs gradually upping the exercise. So if I can keep this up I will be OK for Lanzarote in 18 days time

We've repacked the caravan today ready for a trip away tomorrow. All towels and bedding in etc. Guess what.... got into the car and it took me ages to get the thing to start..... I'm beginning to wonder if it's a bad omen. We'll see what happens first thing tomorrow. The idea is that we go after church, so we'll see if the car starts first thing! ~Not feeling optimistic!!
On the other hand, when I did choir practice last night, I realised our first hymn on Sunday morning is to the tune 'Wareham'. Guess where were going........? Coincidence!!

Oh dear Malcolm, you don't have much luck with cars, on the plus side it means another day off work and you can take it easy . More time to recover fully. Don't worry about work, health is more important.

Horrible day, so cold! Mind you hubby still went out and washed down the caravan.
Bit of housework and washing this morning, and then out to the pub this afternoon to watch the rugby.

Malcolm, Statutory Sick Pay is payable by employers to employees (which you are) for up to 28 weeks. It's £88.45/week. Best part is that your employer can recover the payment through his tax returns (assuming that he troubles himself with such things).

Started the tiling in DD's kitchen today.....eventually.
She had cleared work surfaces and taken down most stuff off the walls, but there was still her cooker hood to be removed, which took us about an hour to figure out how to do.
Then we found the tile adhesive left from a while back had gone off, so I had to wait till OH and DD went to the tile place and bought the adhesive, grout, silicone sealant, stainless steel trim, and a new adhesive spreader for me. All that cost as much again as the tiles, but there should be plenty of adhesive to do the utility room as well.
Putting up the whole tiles is quick, but she has lots of sockets and switches in some areas, so a lot of tricky cutting. Thank goodness for an electric tile saw! Even so, I had 2 cutting failures. She has several spare tiles so not too big a disaster.
Luckily it was dry in the afternoon so I was able to use it outside on her deck, far too messy to use inside.
Will go back tomorrow to continue, should get at least 2/3 completed by tomorrow night, then I will go again on Tuesday.
Cannot have the kitchen in chaos too long!

The problem is that the boss doesn't look upon me as an employee but as self-employed. So I won't get sick pay. Yesterday he told me that if I needed sick leave, he will get another driver and I will lose my job.

Malcolm, it would seem the your boss is only interested in himself and profit , being a boss myself my employees are important to me and I look after them and understand that sometimes they will need time off with sickness or other reasons , your boss is obviously not interested in your long term health , it may be a hard decision but tell your boss to stick his job and find another job ,as the way you are going you won't be in fit state to work at all
Do the right thing ,NOW befor it's to late ..........

I'm starting to think that perhaps I need to find another job. However, the boss has now offered me reduced hours of 12 noon to 7 p.m. Seven hour day instead of 11 hours which is better plus one day off, Thursday.

Malcolm, I would not normally comment on this sort of topic, as of course it is up to yourself to decide what is best for you. However, this so called boss of yours seems so uncaring and money motivated, that feel I must voice an opinion.
Given your stirling work for the firm, if you told them you were taking time off to get fully better before commencing work again, they would be a fool not to take you back. However, from my perspective it seems you are currently working to fund your new smart car, which is more or less exclusively used for business use, as you get so little time off. This surely is economic madness.
Would you not be better off getting a job in a supermarket, or B&Q type establishment. You could even both get a job and be pulling in two wages, rather than the current one between you. The hours would certainly be less. I don't know about the remuneration, but you would not need to buy so much fuel, or put so many miles on the car, there would be no need for business use insurance and you could possibly go back to only one vehicle. If it was a supermarket you also get a discount card, so your food shopping would be cheaper.
However, whatever you decide look after your health. Your current employer obviously has no concerns. He will just discard and re-employ. He seems to have made that clear. Personally I would not want to work for someone like that.
