Sorry about your 2 aunts Bakers. I hope the one with pleurisy improves. I thought she was supposed to be having carers in after being in hospital last year - or was that short lived? I hope they have sorted out some after care at home for her. Old people can be so stubborn. On a lighter note I went to see a friend yesterday afternoon and the snowdrops in her front garden were out which was a cheery sight. Washing machine engineer comes this afternoon so fingers crossed. I have already sourced one in John Lewis on special offer until the 21st so it might be a quick trip to them tomorrow morning.
Glad people are beginning to feel a bit better. Roll on spring.

Milliehull your memory is good she was discharged with carers last year. Limited time, she could easily afford some help but won't 😔. No family to leave anything to . Nothing this time from hospital, emergency Dr sent her in by ambulance she was there for 5 hours perscribed her antibiotics which dr could have done and sent her home in hospital transport............... refuses to let me contact her gp so I can do no more.
I do hope you have a washing machine before long.
The gas fire in our lounge won't stay alight. Thermocouple suspected. No longer made by Valor or Baxi but hope we've sourced one from Internet. Waiting for fitter to get back to us to see if it is. If not a complete new fire required.
Sun's out here, welcome sight 😃 so long as you don't look at the windows 😂😂😂. Don't care 😆

Dull morning here too, but at least it doesn't appear to be raining!
Off to the dental hospital again today. The idea is that they are looking for a solution to tooth wear, probably and mainly brought about by a longstanding growth hormone condition (now cured) which caused a little growth in the lower jaw, resulting in an underbite. I've been going since October, and have appointments running into March (so far). After going for three and a half months they suddenly announced last week that they think they might have a plan!!! I guess I will find out about the plan today.

Lovely sunny day here again today, I put the thermometer on the front window ledge outside to see just how warm it is, the sun coming through the window is very warm. Thermometer says 20c now I know that's in the sun but wow! can't be bad. going out the back of the house is a bit different as its NE facing so more like 10c but still good for January. The hills still have snow but I don't think they are getting a good ski season this year.
Hope you get the washer sorted MH, by the way how did Mr MH Op go, has he got the patch of yet, (did they do both eyes or just the one)
Glad to hear the knitting is still going well Bakers what are you making.
DSB, hope you get a solution to the dental issue.
We've just had a power out in the village, phoned the appropriate number, they took details, called back to let us know someone was on their way to look at the problem, short time later power back on, another phone call to ask if everything was alright did we have any problems and was everything working ok. Must admit very impressed with them. Can hear alarms going off all over the village so guess some houses have main alarms that are not happy.

Must be an east/west split today TG as it is really dreich here today, no sign of any sun, and rain earlier. And now quite a thick mist has descended.
At least it is mild, so have not needed to turn the heating back on.
Got a phone call from DD, she is in North Carolina for 2 weeks for her job. She has just had a "health check" to allow her to use the company's leisure centre (swimming pool and gym) , their head office has loads of facilities.
She is staying in company owned accommodation, on site, which she was told was a "condo", so had expected a flat, but turns out it is an end of terrace bungalow, with 2 bedrooms and full facilities, just for her.
Investigating the utility cupboard she has found an enormous washing machine and matching dryer, both about 3 feet tall. Seems everything is large over there!

Very interesting start to the day. Intended to visit furniture stores. Took the wrong turning out of the village so used a back route to join up with the route I wanted. After 250 yards came across a large horse walking towards the car with a Shetland Pony following it and 4 of their goat friends. Stopped the car, got out and grabbed the rope that the horse was tied up with. There are a number of riding stables in the area.
Meanwhile other cars were coming up and down the lane trying to get passed the goats etc. and frightening the horses, literally. So I walked the horse down to a nearby house which has a gate and tethered it up. His mates all followed but the goats decided to explore the garden. Got them rounded up whereby they decided to try to eat my coat!
Meanwhile one of the stable owners appeared and said she knew where they were from so we walked them back up along the lane until more idiot drivers scared the goats again and the big horse got upset. Anyway we managed to get everything reunited. No thanks from the owner just grunts. About right for todays society.
Too muddy to go shopping so back home after travelling a full 800 yards!
Who said being retired is boring?

Well that's an eventful day
Sadly drivers are not always aware of the damage an animal can do to itself or a vehicle, or they don't care. Seems such a shame that no one has a few minutes to 'stop and stare' or just care. Sad that people who have caused an issue don't have the courtesy to thank helpers.
On the bright side think of all the money you have potentially saved today

Excellent work WN, in the worse case scenario you have probably saved lives. Good on yer

Don't know about saving money Bakers. Mrs WN insisted on going out after change of clothes and lunch and we ended up buuying a new mattress and 2 easy chairs!
She's talking of going hunting for a new vacuum cleaner tomorrow. Might have to make an appointment for her at the doctors as it's most unusual behaviour!

Stuck the last of the wall tiles on in the kitchen today. Just need to grout the top half of the wall.
Repaired the holes in the floor, where I had taken out chunks of the flooring to get to the radiator pipes.
Started to prep for the floor tiles.
Now that will be a logistical nightmare!

Well done WN. Back in the routine now after your trip to Bath, I see.
Dreich day but warm. Move on up to our last CL of this trip, for a couple of nights. I've to take the car in to the dealer's for it's first 3 month QC inspection and to get the roof bars fitted tomorrow. Just a few short walks with Flyte today, with brolly and wellies so didn't get too wet.

Will there be a lot of cutting?
I take it you will be removing plinths and appliances and running the tiles in under them?
In DD's first flat, the useless first owner tiled both the bathroom and kitchen floors......very badly.
In the bathroom he tiled up to the bath panel, making it very difficult to remove.
In the kitchen he just tiled up to the plinths. Luckily there were plenty of spare tiles, so I ripped the plints off, added an extra half width of tile, and replaced with new plinths so we could at least get access.
The built in appliaces were more problematical......a dishwasher and a washer/dryer that sat on plastic feet or little legs in their slots. The W/D the legs could be screwed in so there was then enough space to lift them over the lip of plywood and tile, but when the D/W needed to come out the little feet could not be adjusted far enough so I had to destroy them to get the machine out!
There was much muttering!

Mr H's op all went according to plan thanks Tammy. He is not a patient patient and not enjoying the fact that he can't drive at the moment. He still wears the patch at night and I try to make him wear his wrap-round sunglasses if he goes out as he mustn't get anything in the eye. He goes for his follow up appt on the 27th and they will then give him the date to do the other eye.

Washing machine mechanic came yesterday. He looked at though he should still be in school. He fiddled around a bit and said that he thought it had been a 'glitch' in the circuit board but all was now fixed. I am not convinced. I did one load yesterday and shall do another today to see how things go.
