Thanks reface - there was no danger to the overheads at all - just to my own supply - and that would only be "rubbing" as the blackthorn is only just in reach - sounds like it would be easier to get them down myself.  Pity I didn't think of it when daughter was here at Christmas she loves being let loose with the Chain Saw!

undecided Despite the ramped up concerns about the predicted tidal surge ,,,it did'nt happen at the boatyard area (Faversham) because of the North Westerly wind holding it back .Very cold though today ,with frozen snow and gale force winds.SO,,home early again .wink.

Spent a freezing hour trying to resolve a fuel starvation problem on a friends Mk 2 Focus TDCi. Still won't start as I suspect it is the low pressure pump from the tank that is the problem. Trouble is I'm flying blind without a manual.

My elderly neighbours who have been struggling with their health and life in general have decided to move nearer their family. It's a relief but I will also miss them. Their cottage is very cold even with heating. We have another elderly neighbour who refuses to put any heating on, I spotted her inside her home today with a hat and coat on, it's been so cold today I wonder how she survives.

Ta, Moulesy. I did find it on google only to lose it again but I don't do naked caravanning anymore. Gone softembarassed.

Might make it down that way in the not too distant future. Will sharpen my pencil if the timing is right.

Decided to stick to the motorway network en route home today. Bad moove as stuck going nowhere for 90 minutes on the M6 near Keele whilst some unfortunate people had their accident cleared up. Hope they weren't badly injured.

Back home after an enjoyable weeks break. MIL kept the birds fed but supplies running low so off to pick some more up tomorrow.

Hope those in the path of the bad weather are unscathed.

Got up to a light covering of snow this morning (what is called 'heavy snow falls' in the south east wink) and very cold......especially with our central heating turned off, due to having removed the kitchen radiator for tiling - see separate thread).

Got up early wih my 'plumbing head' on. Ended day with new radiator installed and heating seems better than ever. smile

well another day over on this working holiday down south. You'll be please to know I declined the return flight back for the weekend (save some taxpayer's money) and elected to stay and have two days off in this fancy hotel. The breakfast is far better than home anyway.

Hmm, sad to see that happening, I looked it up on the Practical M/H site, I didn't realise they also owned Adria. Hope A/S doesn't change too much.

Oh dear brue. Elderly people can be so stubborn sometimes. My Dad wouldn't have his heating on. The warden of the flats where he lived went round twice a day and switched it on and I also went round twice a day and switched it on and as soon as we left he switchecit off. It wasn't as though he couldn't afford it!! Glad your other neighbours have decided to move nearer their family. I just hope they will be supportive.

Mr H had his cataract op today and all went according to plan. He is now sitting here with his eye patch on wondering why his sight isn't perfect yet. Patience isn't his strong point laughing

Thanks Millie. No-one has managed to persuade the neighbour without the heating to use it so it's very frustrating! I'm sort of glad to hear others have experienced this too, not easy .

Hope Mr H makes a good recovery. smile

Glad that you got home safe and sound, although delayed. We are glad that we came north yesterday, as we missed the crash and also the winds that were blowing this morning.

Did you leave early to avoid the worst of it? Hope you're on a site that's easy to get in and out of, i.e. not in the back of beyond.

There are some of us so unused to having heating - that we prefer to sit coated up - but it needs to be done carefully!  I have been used to cold houses all my life and feel really uncomfortable in hothouses!  However it is really sad when people die of hypothermia.

I just feel that elderly people need to be careful and keep their houses warm. It can be dangerous if they dont. It's awful when people can't afford it.

Had a slight fall of snow early through the night but it was followed by rain in the early morning so most of it had gone. Luckily it didn't freeze so roads were fine. Went to Knutsford in the morning with a walk around The Heath before having a look through the town. Then an hour and three quarter walk through Tatton Park after lunch. There was a cold wind blowing but no rain and a blue sky, although we could see the hills to the East were well covered with snow and another snow fall could be seen passing over there. In fact flights had to be delayed at Manchester Airport because of the weather. Clear again tonight so perhaps another frost on the ground in the morning.

No we'd planned to be up here yesterday for 5 nights. The CL is only about 3 mls off the motorway and has a flat 1/2ml drive down to the site. However the weather's supposed to be warmer but wet next week when we move up to Kirkham.

We have a continuous battle of the thermostat in our house.  I switch it up everytime I pass it and Carol switches it down.  We rarely seem to be able to get a temperature that suits both of us at the same time.  smile

I was perfectly snug last night with the temp in sleeping quarters at 6 degrees.  I would certainly switch something on if suffering from a cold or flu though.  I do try hard when I get visitors and bring out me summer clothes!

I decided to take the ice off the small garden pond today - for the birds - and discovered it was a useful exercise in removing the duck week at the same time.  Frozen into the ice I just had to fish out the ice and hey presto most of the duckweed has gone - and the wildlife can get a drink!

Weather not as good as forecast, but got out and about. Also did the supermarket shop, bought a few extras as making a banana tarte tartin for tea.

Heard from youngest son he has found a house to rent in Manchester, and got his new contract for the new job, it's all going to plan.smile
