Not a bad morning, no work until this afternoon.  Just waiting for the rain and snow to arrive,  probably will start just as I have to walk to work!

OH has only just gone back to work after his chest infection, it hung around for over 3 weeks!

Just finished all the ironing, and enjoying five minutes catching up on here.☺

Thanks Tammy and Helen.  I have a feeling that we might have to get a new one.  It is 8 years old and will probably be very expensive to repair.  I am already investigating on the internet. I really can't manager without a washing machine for too long. I wonder why Hotpoint didn't just give you a new tumble dryer Helen. They didn't think that one through properly did they.

Millie, try ao.com for washing machines, I have had several appliances from them and always had good service. Prices are comparable too.

Glad your OH is feeling better Helen.  What a long time it has taken.  It is a very nasty bug that is around at the moment.

I am doing some odd jobs this morning and then we are off on a church visit and afternoon tea with the U3A to Easton on the Hill.  Hope the snow holds off.  Also don't want it to snow too heavily overnight or tomorrow morning as Mr H has his cataract op scheduled for 8.30am tomorrow.

Dropped my Kuga off today for a minor recall job on the heated screen washers. I've had the car six years & I didn't even know they were heated. Just managed the walk home before the rain set in.

Hope your son has good luck with the move Helen, a big area to choose from!

Finger crossed for the weather Millie and Mr H's cataract op. We're supposed to be going out tonight to a supper and social gathering. It's via very rural unlit lanes, I'm hoping the weather holds off and the OH feels up to going out, both of us coughing in unison now! wink

JVB. It had crossed my mind to book into FM over the weekend so I could use their washing machine but as Mr H is having a cataract op tomorrow I don't think he would be up for it! I am already looking at John Lewis website so I am prepared.laughing  We have an upper figure in mind that we will not go beyond for repair.

brue - I hope you and Mr brue feel better soon and that you have a nice evening out with no bad weather.

I know the feeling brue, hope you are both feeling better soon. We are at the stage of still stuffy head but noses clear, cough but not keeping us awake, more irritating than anything.

Hope you do manage to get out tonight and the snow holds off.

we have a lovely sunny day now, snow is still on the ground so it must be cold still, haven't ventured outdoors yet though may go for a short walk soon.

I did eventually find it through Google. It was a non ehu set up with a poor review. I've just had another look and google can't find it again! I put in Certified Location at Bishops Sutton. Never mind.

Managed to get out into Bath this morning. Rain came down about 11.00.

Mrs.WN quite happy as she bagged a new pair of walking shoes from Cotswold Outdoors. Discount from CC still applies.

Good meal at an Indian restaurant for lunch. Back to cooking from tomorrow!frown

Woke up to snow on the ground this morning, not too bad here, but more on the south side of the city.  Sunny later then snow off and on, tomorrow will be bad if we do not get a thaw.

Picked up the new towcar today (VW Touareg), whole process took about 90 minutes with talk through of  controls, hand over of old car and hiccup in trying to pay for new one.

Apparently there is some (top secret) arbitrary limit on debit card payment amounts with Halifax  which neither we, the salesman or the girl at the bank knew about, so several phone calls were needed to sort that out.  In the end they had put it through as 2 separate payments.

Went up the road to DD's house for lunch and to give her a very short test drive (only 3 times round the block).   Then had to drive home in the snow after stopping at Morissons to  fill  up the fuel tank.

Will take a wee while to get used to the car, brakes are very nippy and over enthusiastic use of the accelerator sends it into take off mode!  The Volvo was fast on acceleration, but this VW is much faster.

Lots of new toys in it  to get to grips with so will be spending the evening, and probably all of tomorrow studying the handbook!

The rain started just as it got dark.  It is absolutely teeming down. I just hope it doesn't turn to snow. I have just heard on the news that some Lincolnshire seaside residents have been advised to leave their homes and go to centres that have been set up further inland as a storm surge is expected tonight.  Jaywick in Essex is also on alert.  Keep safe everyone.

Having a catch up on here.  Using the laptop so able to respond smile.  Still quite a lag on typing appearing.

Well it's snowing and settling here too and has been for about an hour or so.  Took the dog for a lovely chilly walk over our local estate, so desperate is she to chase squirrels she spotted one on the island in the lake and swam out to give it a good barking at........... What is her problem with them?  Once she felt that it had been barked at enough she returned and we continued a great walk, but keeping her eye out for more!!  We got back into the car and it started spotting with rain.  Got a few bits at Tesco and dropped some things with the charity shop on the way home, but which time it was raining for real and until it changed to snow that's how it's been.  Dog shattered with the miles covered, some at speed and the swim she's not done much other than sleep - just popped out for a wee and didn't seem keen surprised.

We have been unable to light our gas fire in the lounge since Christmas, thermocouple suspected.  Gas chap couldn't source from his suppliers now obsolete, happy to fit if we can find as he just doesn't have time too busy with heating or hot water repairs!!  Ordered one which hubby seems to think looks right and has the right numbers as far as we can see,.  So fingers crossed.  If not it's a new fire surprised.  Not very old by my standards but might be..............

Sorry for all you folks that are having similar hiccups with equipment already this year - hope you can get it sorted quickly and reasonably priced.

Not been inspired to do much so have listened to Iplayer, Other Peoples Children by Joanne Trollope and knitted.  Most indulgent and enjoyable.

    I'm using Unibond, ready mixed.

I'm sure it was down to th lack of warmth so I left an electric fan heater running in the kitchen all day today.

After I got home from CAB I grouted the tiles that I've done on the lower half of tge wall.....they seemed pretty solid.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to start the plumbing work.......fingers crossed!

Enjoy the new car, KjellNN.......I really like the look of the Toureg and it sounds like it performs too.

Looking forward to your reports on towing with it.

Previously we have informed them about unusual transactions, but they were not that  interested.

Last time we bought a car, the Smart, there was no problem, but the amount was way smaller.

When we bought the Volvo, 10 years back,we paid over £35k by  debit card and the bank did not bat an eyelid.

I think they must  have tightened up on things since  then.  This was less than the Volvo, but the limit per transaction with  Halifax now seems to be £25 or £30k.  They will not tell you.  They just keep declining the transaction!

9 years back we paid £16k for the van, again they were not interested.

Ah well, at least it is all sorted now.

Thanks, there is a LOT of new stuff to learn about!

Feeling a bit sad, our poor old XC90 will no doubt  go to the car auction, just hope it finds a nice owner.  Whoever buys it will get 1 year old really good  tyres, and a good going car, but it does have some problems which they will not be aware of, and which Volvo could not diagnose, let alone fix, hence our decision to bite the bullet and dispose of it.

This is quite a sad day for us as loyal Volvo owners.  We have driven only Volvos since 1972, this will be the first  time we have not owned a Volvo in almost 45 years.

DD still has our old V40, still going strong after 14 years, but when it goes she will also be switching to a VW, probably a Golf.
