Highjacking Topics
Why do members want to highjack topics. It is irritating when you are following a topic only for some members to go “Off Topic” and before you know it you are following a completely different thread. More frustrating when the member admits to going of topic.
If you feel that what you have something to say ,please create another topic.

It's an old chestnut, Farmhouse. Sometimes it matters, sometimes not.
Usually the nitty gritty of the topic is covered before it goes OT but not always.
You can try the report button. Sometimes it gets a result, sometimes not.

it was my way of using humour to outline that it is impossible to stop conversations moving along naturally it is how conversations are.
I meant no offence but I do think it is in many ways a pointless post which was bound to become a post full of tongue in cheek replies with or without my input. If we were to stay totally on topic on every post how boring would it be and how many interesting
debates would be missed.anyway my apologies if I caused offence.

Friendly banter it might have been but, without any indication of that (i.e. no smiley icon), this is exactly what can cause annoyance to some posters and can be seen as disrespectful and, of course, hijacking of a thread.

with respect you would have to be totally void of humour not to see my post for what it was
totally agree....have 'emoticons' become the new language of the forum?

Actually, I was only thinking this morning how CT had seemed to settle down again this week with far fewer argumentative and insulting posts (even with a smiley at the end, an insult is an insult and has no place on the forum IMHO!) and far less hijacking
of threads. So maybe a temporary lull or maybe a sign that we're moving ahead (or back) into the friendly, positive forum CT has always had the potential to be. We can but hope.0 -
I don't have a problem with anyone on here or the way they post on or off topic. I have been and still am on various other forums of various interests and some of those are positively volatile.
have you noticed how this thread has now evolved and not just by me ... I rest my case mi lud

Sorry, spk, but it wasn't a pointless post. It was about a subject of concern to the OP. Whether you or I are bothered by threads bring dragged OT is beside the point. The OP felt strongly enough about it to start a thread and
deserves, in my opinion, to be taken seriously without being ridiculed.0 -
this is the problem with forums and that is that in real life you generally socialise with people with the same humour and outlook there fore you know the boundaries. With forums you be yourself and accept that some will not "get it" this is no concern to
me I have broad shoulders, you are assuming the OP has taken offence but without a reply you do not know if that is the case. furthermore if I was the OP I would be insulted by the fact that other people seemed to think that I needed there assistance in dealing
with my own thread.0 -

Blatant highjacking of threads is clearly wrong, especially when someone's own personal agenda or pet hates are drawn into it for no good reason, but sometimes you are discussing topic A, which is conected to topic B, which is then conected to topic C and
the posts follow A to B to C. But then C is no longer conected to A. This isn't as bad IMHO and is not done maliciously and a poster or mod will usually bring it back on topic.0 -
Well put Corners.
"Conversations" naturally drift just as they do in the real world. Easy to bring it back on track again by any poster who wishes to. I have noticed however when they do this, its usually ends up with themselves interrupting the new natural flow and the thread just dies.

well I apologise if I have upset anyone with my deliberate hijack BUT I feel compelled to bring the forums attention that more likes have been posted to my and others humorous posts than those that have posted there feelings that humour and hijacking are
unacceptable. I therefore conclude that miserable folk are out numbered by those of us with humour. Thankfully.0 -
It is quite apparrent that many members of this forum have had a sense of humor bypass.

Must admit 'spk', your post made me smile and I have been guilty of doing similar without being malicious as I'm sure you were. As for
saying the thread is pointless, don't agree but just forget it and move on and shove in a few emoticons in future0 -

I've just Liked yours, by the way.

yes your right I think with hindsight that remark was not worded very well and I do sincerely apologise to the op for that. what I meant was pointless in as much that one cannot stop conversation's going off topic its just the way humans interact.

Hope everyone happy now

you do realise you have now taken this off topic and onto the credibility of likes. There is currently another threw on this very subject you are therefore also guilty of duplication.
