there are no lists of names against liked posts, as in some forums....

Just look at the ‘Latest Activities’ on the front page of CT, and scroll down…
The action is under the username on the RHS.
Or, if you look at a user’s profile you can see their last five actions (scrolling here is rather less rewarding).

Rogher, thank you for providing those stats. They are very interesting.
Statistics show the quantity of posts, but unfortunately do not show the quality of posts or indicate the health of a forum.
We have to understand that when a forum is going downhill, members turn on each other blaming other posters, never themselves, for the demise of the forum.
Reading through this very thread sadly shows that very scenario.
One thing to remember is that it is never the ordinary members who are responsible for a forums decline, they cannot decide policy. so stop blaming each other, thats not where the blame lies.

I am afraid I disagree K9. I think it is always the ordinary members who are responsible for a forum's decline.
Gresham's Law says that bad money drives out good. And a bulk of bad posts on a forum also drive out good. Nothing to do with the management. Sorry to disagree - even in this friendly way.

Sadly, the straightjacket approach alluded to by K is often precipitated by the problem highlighted by ET. Perhaps there should be a league table showing who gets the most "likes" per post which could perhaps be a motivation to improve the quality of posts.

The ratio of Likes:Comments on the forum was 36:64 last year and 39:61 this year. So just over a third of all events are “likes”.
It would be nice to be able to see who has awarded the likes by linking a list to the “x people like this” text. Also to show how many comments have been contributed and the number of likes cast and received on each user’s profile.

The various debates don't seem to have the same value nowadays. It is possible to visit CT and not see anything of interest or worth posting a reply. Probably it has all been said before and a lot of subjects have been flogged to death. The other reason I suspect is that long term posters are running at purple star level and to gain further advancement, if that is your thing, requires tens of thousands of points. A move from my current 5 reds requires 10,000 points and I cannot get excited about that.

The number of ‘hard core’ users of the forum has not changed much: 35 users showed up every day of the first week in 2015. This year there were 33 who were active each day, but not the same ones as before (50 different users amongst them).
Of those using the forum, about 60% are Caravanners and only 14% say they are Motorhomers; no wonder Motorhomers might feel outnumbered at times (4:1). There is an insignificant number of Trailertenters, the remaining 26% of users do not declare their type
of unit.I find the Caravan/Motorhome split interesting because I perceive a larger proportion of Motorhomes on Club sites but there could be other reasons for that, if it is the case.
The percentage of Motorhomers is much greater for contributions in the reviews and stories sections: 41% Caravanners and 20% Motorhomers (2:1). The curious thing is that very few contributions in those sections come from members who also use the forum.

Interesting stats, I find it puzzling why members wont complete a profile.
I do very few reviews of Club sites, they are all much of a muchness. I think most of my reviews have been of CLs.

I am another who took the decision not to post as much a few months ago. I found an alternative forum where sensible debate isn't hijacked, where everyone can express their interesting opinions and thoughts without feeling stressed, either because they travel
with a pet, or children, or choose to tour in a particular way or particular place. I am pleased to be able to say that a lot of very nice, very friendly fellow CT members have also decided to get involved. It would be lovely if a few more of those who value
this kind of forum chat came along and joined in. No one gives a hoot about how many "stars" other posters have, people are valued for the interesting, amusing and helpful information they decided to post. We have a lot of online fun, we share jokes, we share
laughter, and to my knowledge no one derides anyone else or their choices to score points. A lot of us remain members of CT, and are looking forward to the new CT, and like me still swop ideas with a lot of the nice posters who are still around on CT. We haven't
gone away, or been forced out, we are just waiting for the rebirth of what brought a lot of us together a long time ago.

I'm in agreement with the above. Stars are an irrelevance and the people who chase them rather sad
Apart from all the other reasons succinctly summarised above the rather primitive nature of the forum software is a big turnoff for me. It shouldn't be this hard! And the thought that our membership moneys have been spent on it, just because of a Not Invented

...The stories section is a bit different, most use it for blog style posts about their van travels and experiences. There are exceptions like the Meeks who promote various aspects of outdoor living and life on the road. The whole forum covers quite a big range of subjects but we seem to have a few popular themes!

I have always been more interested in the forum activity, rather than the other sections, as that is the part I use most.
In terms of top contributors, half of all the activity is performed by only 30 users, but it takes 70 more (100 users in total) to generate three quarters of all the activity.

The star system was originally put in place to encourage people to post when the forum was new. I think many think that it has over stayed its welcome and perhaps that might change when we get the new forum?

All this ambiguity about the new CC forum is unhelpful. Despite promises that it would be available in 2015 we have still to see any indication that it will be even available in 2016.
Neither have the CC been honest enough to inform the members about what new features will be present or what format the forum will take. By this time, all that planning will have taken place and it will be a simple matter to proudly relay to the membership all the advantages that the new forum will bring.
A cynic might say that by their complete silence on the matter the CC have put the implementation of the new Forum on the back burner.

Perhaps the CT user statistics very kindly supplied by Rogher are making them think again about the need to replace the forum.
