How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

I would advise the C&CC to be very careful in their choice of moderators. On other forums there have been instances of moderators having their own little clique of followers. Therefore the idea of impartiality in the way they do their moderation is missing.
Fortunately there is generally only one out of the team who is like that, but they, by their actions tend lower the respect that the forum members have for the whole moderation team, which is a real shame as the others do a good job.K
Some caravan forums are well run, have members who enjoy themselves, respect each other and don't need Moderators.

Here is an edited reply from the C &CC forum manager regarding my security and user name concerns.
sic. Once you have logged on to the forum you will automatically be registered as a user of it. It is members only and your data would be completly secure and in no way linked to bookings.
We are currently looking at adapting the forum so that real names would not be used.
In other words they don't have your prior permission to use your name and join, you are a member of the forum even if you just sign in to look. You have not signed up for T&Cs and by using your real name you will be vulnerable to anyone who chooses to
track who you are.The forum doesn't appear to be safely user ready yet and I don't have confidence that it is secure.
I hope it gets off the ground but I think it isn't quite properly prepared at the moment.
Even MI5 would probably not claim to be completly secure. I think the ccc forum manager doesnt understand the words 'privacy' or 'secure'.
Sad to say, but thus far, imho of course, its a cock-up.0 -
I have been a bit busy today so have just looked on the C&CC site and I have had a reply about my privacy concerns. I previously mentioned about real names being user names and after that mentioned about real names being seen if only browsing the forum.
Reading between the lines they have had a lot of feedback from members on this subject and are clearly having a rethink. No idea how that will manifest itself.David

The main problem appears to be, apart from real names on view, is that just by logging on to the main site and browsing/reading the forum you have become a forum member. No warning about this or explanation given and your name will appear on the "people on line" list.
edit I think I will leave it that, I can't look at the forum again as I don't want my name to appear and I didn't want to be a forum member.

So, are people saying that using my real name on the C&CC website i am going to be scammed ,robbed, beaten up or followed?????, oh,i had better watch my back
P.S, Huskydog is my step name
My real fear would be it could lead to identity theft. Why make it easy for anyone by displaying real names.

Looks like the C&Cc forum is poorly planned and implemented. Its doomed before it starts. My advice would be for them to invest in proper commercially produced forum software and run it as a separate entity.
I thought GTP said it was an add on of a commercially based product most of which allow some tailoring to meet the owners use.

I would like to be able to view threads without having to sign in as per CT. If usernames are to be the norm, then this should be possible, then if I want to make a comment on any particular thread I will have to sign in to the forum......

Sounds like a "Burglars Almanac" to me, touring club, with members who might keep their outfit at home, personal details available to all and sundry, you couldn't make it up really. They can even burgle to order: nice area, perhaps teenage children, plenty of IT equipment and expensive media stuff around, member of such and such a club, so expensive sports gear going begging, maybe a nice car left on drive, maybe wife/ husbands nice car left on drive. Even photos available if using a third party hosting site! A savvy fifteen year old brought TalkTalk to its knees, a complete numpty could use just a name to get all they need.

Peedee, it makes it even more important to delete ones date of birth from facebook. The combination of those two are dynamite.
Don't use backache full stop.....

are CT members that use their 'real names' (rather than a pseudonym) more 'at risk' than those that dont?
if so, why?
this has been mentioned as a reason for not using the C&CC forum, yet a great many use 'real names' on CT.
Some expressing concern are using 'real names' on CT, so whats the specific difference?
if its an issue, should they stop using CT, or change their login 'name'?
If you use your real name do not show your location. Without your location finding you is very difficult but you should also keep your date of birth secret. If you are looking at burglars then you should have no problem. They would have to spend hours trying
to find enough information on someone in their area and it almost certsinly would not justify the effort.Leave enough information on you on the web though and identity theft is always a potential problem.

my point was that there are many CT members using real names and some, no doubt, who put their DOB In their profile...
why is no one screaming that these members should change this as they at exactly the same risk being voiced about the CCC forum?
surely, the risks are the same on both forums?

To a certain extent I agree BB, but it is a choice on this forum, doesn't sound like a choice on the other one, so not quite the same. Up to the individual to protect themselves, but from what I have read from other posts on here, it seems that you can't
use an avatar name, so the C and CC seem to be adding to the problem? I could be wrong, not a member, so haven't taken a look.0 -
I don't think folk are attacking the CC&C itself just the system they have opted to go with. It helps no one playing the 'them & us' card. It's merely opinions, if the opinions help to protect members then it's all to the good.

i dont think anyone is doing thst, merely trying to understand the swift raising of awareness following the opening of the other forum, citing circumstances that are identical on other forums including CT.
if anything, drawing attention to these somilarities (rather than the differences) might make more CT ers aware of these pitfalls.

BB, not looking to argue, merely to say that on other forums you have the option not to be shown when online, on CT you have the option of viewing only, on C&CC you have niether at the moment. It would be nice to have a choice.....

That's the difference BT-choice, given the choice I doubt many would choose to display so much info. Let's hope no one suffers in the long term.

I'm sure they'll sort it out, they're obviously going to drop the real name bit. Maybe it shouldn't have gone live until they'd thought it through a bit more, it isn't on open view to all like CT. I think people like reading forums even if they aren't members
or signed up for anything. I certainly browse other forums.0 -
Yes brue, I browse other forums as well, as many others do, I would think .......

Comparing the two, there seems to be more activity on this discussion alone than there is on the whole C&CC forum at the moment.
That is because it is new and the access to it is currently hidden. It did briefly appear on the members page but last time I looked I couldn't find it without doing a search function.

The C&CC should have taken the trouble to see what is good and what is not so good with the CC forum before planning and implementing their version.
They have had the advantage of seeing where the CC went wrong. That should have triggered a desire to have a forum which surpassed the CC one regarding customer satisfaction.
Sadly that has not happened and their forum appears to be a very poor example of people not knowing what they are doing. Don't see their forum being popular with C&CC members unless they go back to the drawing board and do as the words of a famous song
implies ---- Quote :- "And sent them homewards to think again" end quoteK
