How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

the CCC site is not on general release yet, AFAIK, and will take a while to get up to speed....a forum relies on content and that cant be made up.....it come from users.
to get over the 'errors' issue, just clear the cache .....easy to do on each of your browsers, no prons using after that..
but, of course, the content is mightily thin at the moment.....

What's wrong with using a real name? I always think some people post stuff using a pseudonym that they wouldn't if they posted under their real name so I think it would be better if we were all forced to use a real name. Some use a pseudonym then have their
own picture as an avatar! So long as its only your name visible and no other personal details that's fine, no worse than the electoral roll which has your address as well. I have been on many forums that show who is online at the time and see no issues.

HD, I can't speak for others but I for one am not suggesting you will suffer what you have written is possible. I am playing safe by not putting my full name up to be possibly scrutinised by potential ne'er do wells. What you decide is entirely up to you.
I will continue to employ a degree of anonymity with anyone I don't trust fully.0 -
The current C&CC experience may be a taster of what is to come, for us, when the new software arrives.
What is it with these forums that requires a regular cleaning of cache?
Write your comments here...because when you go to a site it caches certain stuff locally to make loading faster so when they change a page it uses the cached version so fails to load the newer page so clearing the cache ensures the new page and features
load correctly.0 -
Rocky, i respect other member views on this ,and yes you have to do what each person thinks is right , yes my name is on the C&CC website ,but IS it my real name ??????
your real name and what you call yourself are two different things

Of course its your real name on the C&CC, with a few more clicks on another tab it leads me direct to your shop and website, you are the sole director and your turnover

....but this is true of any CT member who uses their real name.
my point was that folk have decried the way the CCC site is set up, yet the same is happening on CT.
similarly, the sign-on for CT also covers the rest of the site (bookings, etc) and logging in to bookings also gives you access to CT.
im not suggesting either is right or wrong, merely trying to understand why it seems to be an 'issue' on the CCC site yet folk are gaily using CT that seems to work in the same way.

Looks like the C&Cc forum is poorly planned and implemented. Its doomed before it starts. My advice would be for them to invest in proper commercially produced forum software and run it as a separate entity.
If they continue down the current path their forum will be worse than useless.

its 'interesting' that both clubs decided on a bespoke forum approach despite the major forums all using 'off the shelf' similar products.
if the CCC had been paying attention to CT, it would have seen that there is much missing functionality that is 'std' with most off the shelf forums.
CT will need a large revamp to accommodate the features most forum users gake for granted, why the CCC would plough the same furrow, i dont really know....

The thing is Huskydog - I'm an OAP, a blonde and not even a member of C&CC so can't access their forum but I now know most of your postcode; your name; your partner's name now and previous; other people who've lived at your address and could easily find
more as mentioned already. And people think this is okay?

....also, this 'issue' about sperate sign ins for the forum and the rest of the site elements....
ive just logged out of CT.....
gone to the Easy Book page....
it requires me to log in......
i log in....
I switch to CT.......
I need no seperate log in to use it....
I am alredy logged in from my earlier log in to Easy Book
is this not exactly the same as the concern raised above?
Write your comments here...As far as i can see, apart from holding a booking for a defined time, there is no time out function on the C & CC web site. It is important if using that site to remember to sign out. Most secure sites, especially where finance transactions take place have a time out function.
Apologies if someone has mentioned this already, I haven't looked at the thread since yesterday evening.

Not a member of the C&CC any longer, so their website doesn't interest me. This one however does, and it needs to be made more robust and less prone to silly glitches.Especially if they expect us to use it more for contact and other uses.I still prefer
paper actually, so not keen to go fully digital.0 -

i must be worth talking about as i am now being talked about on the caravanchat forum , maybe the only way i could get on there

A bit off thread husky, but they haven't activated my registration application from a few weeks ago......may be something to do with
sitting on the naughty step.....their loss....0 -
I think its too late for me - as I suspect I have already posted on the C&CC website - but I am not keen on my full name being revealed. I wasn't with CT from the beginning but C &CC won't even log me into the main website since I posted on the forum -
perhaps I posted something that wasn't PC - but I press the login button and get nowhere at all!0 -
Cannot even find it on their Home page, if your pesonal details are being used for all to see, it is not for me, even if I could find it, Do they have a Spellchecker !! as it's about time this one did, i have been moaning for a very long time about this subject

Not sure whats going on with the loin though. I asked the ccc last night to torpedo my forum accesss. Still nothing, apart from the forum link seems to have been removed from members

I did look at the CaravanChat forum - once. It seemed to be populated by the same, same people riding the same, same hobby horses. Will Camping and Caravanning Club's new offering turn out to be the same as that other one?

I would advise the C&CC to be very careful in their choice of moderators. On other forums there have been instances of moderators having their own little clique of followers. Therefore the idea of impartiality in the way they do their moderation is missing. Fortunately there is generally only one out of the team who is like that, but they, by their actions tend lower the respect that the forum members have for the whole moderation team, which is a real shame as the others do a good job.

Here is an edited reply from the C &CC forum manager regarding my security and user name concerns.
sic. Once you have logged on to the forum you will automatically be registered as a user of it. It is members only and your data would be completly secure and in no way linked to bookings.
We are currently looking at adapting the forum so that real names would not be used.
In other words they don't have your prior permission to use your name and join, you are a member of the forum even if you just sign in to look. You have not signed up for T&Cs and by using your real name you will be vulnerable to anyone who chooses to track who you are.The forum doesn't appear to be safely user ready yet and I don't have confidence that it is secure.
I hope it gets off the ground but I think it isn't quite properly prepared at the moment.

ET, that must have shocked you finding a forum called 'Caravan Chat' and the posters chatting about Caravan related things. I'm no expert but I reckon the 'Camping & Caravanning Club' may(and this is just a wild guess here) discuss Camping & Caravanning
things. Great post ET, it gave me a giggle0
