How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

Do you actually join,or just log in using the normal Club log in? Unless I have not yet been able to work it out you don't seem to be able to use a forum name, or have I got that wrong.
David
Just log in using your C&CC log in details , and no ,you can't use an alternative forum name , but it's good fun to try and work out any new CT,ers that have joined
...yes, good fun, one or two have been spotted....nice avatar....

Glad to hear the C&CC have decided to follow our lead and start a forum. Sadly, I will probably not be taking part too much as I don't feel able to take part in more than one forum regularly. It must be a good move for the industry as a whole though. Anything
to encourage our hobby, I'm sure must be a good thing.David

However, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that many book in a casual manner without being certain that they will be able to make the dates they have chosen.
This is almost certainly the case, it's the only way to get a pitch on the honeypot sites
Peedee
I am not sure any of us can be certain we will be able to make the dates chosen up to a year in advance. Which as you correctly say is the only way to get a pitch on the honey pot sites. We certainly have every intention of taking up our bookings, as in my opinion do the vast majority of those who book on booking day. To bring it back onto topic I notice the CC charge a £25 deposit. I can see this would stop block booking of weekends for at a whim cancelling, if this indeed happens on any large scale. However, I can't see it having any great impact on those who want the weekends, whatever the weather, which again in my opinion are the majority.
Write your comments here...SteveL I think this is one of the big differences with the two clubs because the C & CC requires deposits and also limits weekend bookings on popular sites to minimum stays eg 3 or 4 nights. Bookings can be made a year in advance and are released on a rolling system, there's no big booking day and most who need a particular site will have booked it and paid a deposit well in advance.
However I really like the one night only bookings with the CC and this isn't always possible with the other club.

Regarding using your real name(CC&C web site) a few years ago I read about online security 'do's & don'ts' the article suggested putting your actual name in a search engine, what a shock that was-I found my address, pics of me & some family names, & some
info I'd not want to be known. Since then I've never put my real name out there only ever used 'user names' I certainly won't be using the CC&C forum, way too risky for my comfort.0 -
I agree Rocky. A few people on here use their real names but I wouldn't, I'm on view due to the work I did and now I've retired I don't want anyone trawling through my details. There is too much public information out there for a lot of us already.
edit I have a feeling this will put some off joining the new forum even though openess is good in some respects.

Brue, some respects-yes, but not open forums

The advice you read Rocky still stands and for that reason I am a little surprised the C&CC are not allowing user names. I think it will put a damper on their forum, posters will certainly have to be careful what they say, maybe that is what the C&CC want? Even though it is a member only forum I would be very wary

Another security warning about this new site! Last night I discovered your name is displayed in the "who is on line section" so even if you haven't joined and are just browsing your name is visible. I wont be browsing at all in future!

When I realised that if you posted your full name would appear on your post I immediately contacted the forum admin. Their reply was that as its a members only forum they felt there should be no conflict in using full names which I suspect is well meaning but rather naive. I immediately replied saying that being a members forum is no guarentee of privacy and I said I would not be contributing whilst that was in place. In fairness it did seem that they might be open to change that if sufficient members expressd a view so might I suggest those that would like to join and take part contact forum admin expressing their concerns about using their own name.

I have also directly queried their security David, I don't think they have thought it through. If you sign in you are signed in to the whole web site, if you then go on to make a financial transaction I'd like to know how secure things are.

I agree. I really don't think they have thought this through. I have written again mentioning what you said about names appearing if only online. If enough people contact them they will soon realise they have a problem.

The aurgument that it is a membership area only, doesnt fill me with confidence. Unless I have assurances from google, then its pretty well open in my view. Also, if you want to use an avatar (most peeps do) then on the ccc forum you can only do this via
gravatar which is part of wordress.com and it requires your email that is used on ccc to gain access. So in effect, you will have to pass on confidetial detail to a third party just to use an avatar. Not at all well thought through.0 -

Msust admit I was surprised at this also, I didn't think anything would be displayed untill I had actualy agreed to join the forum, I haven't agreed to join, I was put straight through to the forum and then discovered that I was declared as being online,
not for me thanks, maybe in the future if blatent security issues are rectified. No doubt the ongoing situation will be monitored on this thread.....0 -
After reading David's & Brue's posts above I'm glad that I have not started to post on the C&CC forum, and will be giving it a total miss in the future.

BTW, presumably, your name only appears if you're looking at the forum and not if you're going on line to, say, book a site? Anyone know if that's correct?

David, you say that you don't want your name on the forum ,but when I looked at your website you give lots of information about yourself and family , with respect am I missing the point??
P.S ,great website

I don't think so Wildwood, but not definately sure. Brue is seeking assurances on that point from theC&CC......

Thats right Bugs, I found that rather disturbing.....

are CT members that use their 'real names' (rather than a pseudonym) more 'at risk' than those that dont?
if so, why?
this has been mentioned as a reason for not using the C&CC forum, yet a great many use 'real names' on CT.
Some expressing concern are using 'real names' on CT, so whats the specific difference?
if its an issue, should they stop using CT, or change their login 'name'?

....also, this 'issue' about sperate sign ins for the forum and the rest of the site elements....
ive just logged out of CT.....
gone to the Easy Book page....
it requires me to log in......
i log in....
I switch to CT.......
I need no seperate log in to use it....
I am alredy logged in from my earlier log in to Easy Book
is this not exactly the same as the concern raised above?

After reading on here I had a look at the C&CC forum. We are in both clubs and I think they have equal benefits.
I dont visit their website much as its the only website I visit where I have trouble logging on so when I eventually got signed in saw an error message and reports of others getting the same.
I am not exactly dumb with computers and for various reasons have most modern browsers installed but got the same error message with Firefox 43, Safari, Chrome, Edge, and IE11 on Windows 10, Chrome again on Android and Safari again but this time on iOS9.2
so to me its shows a problem with their siteIt took me longer than I would want to get to the home brew forum and I am not sure many would want to search (ok I have it book marked now like other forums)
I wish the C&CC luck with it but they need to get it sorted quick and get more easily found access sorted, but the only place I had found out about was on here the CC site!!
