How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

in France, you turn up and you will find a pitch and then pay when you leave.....so you might ask...why doesnt the CC ask for payment when you leave if ypure looking for similarity...
Slightly off topic but we went away a couple of weeks ago and had to return a day earlier than expected ( and paid for) to avoid the 45+ mph winds forecast for the following day - we were unable to stay on due to the site being fully booked BUT a credit was not allowed to be given - how can this be right when we found ourselves in a Catch 22 situation, if it is OK to cancel beforehand without financial penalty why does it not work both ways?

"...see the example a few posts up, where members have freely admitted to booking several dates across the year and then choose the one with the best weather and then dump the rest just within the 27 hr period."
BB - every year since the forum opened at this time of year a few folk come on and claim that they've met a few others on site who claim they book their favourite site every weekend and then cancel etc etc. Yet the club says that on frenzy day only a small number of members make even double figure bookings. You don't strike me as the naive sort - do you not think there may be a bit of winding up involved here?0 -
with the mad rush to book key dates and sites, 'speculative bookers' can be as speculative as they like.....see the example a few posts up, where members have freely admitted to booking several dates across the year and then choose the one with the best
weather and then dump the rest just within the 27 hr period.Where was that please?

if i could have been bothered to join in the frenzy (no thanks) i might have had a crack at a few multi-savers at Chatsworth or BW....after all, no point in getting a booking and then having to endure crap weather.....
Yes, but the point is that these claims are made and there's never any evidence of it being true. I don't do frenzy day either but I also don't come on complaining about not being able to get exactly the site I want when I want as a few (not you!) do. If you or I did go for a lot of block bookings would either of us then go around bragging about it to other members? I don't think so, do you?

Yes, Ian H kept asking for those statistics as well and they'd certainly be interesting.
But I for one would tend to put more stock by what little the CC have told us than a few hearsay claims from a small number of individuals with an axe to grind.
Incidentally, if some folk do indeed book loads of weekends at the same site (can't imagine whi they would!) as long as they've done it after frenzy day and intend to use them they've done nothing wrong surely?

here you go, Steve....
" I have had several conversations with members who admit to booking up weekends and holidays at there favorite haunts knowing that they will cancel a good proportion of them. One couple said they wouldn't be able to afford every booking they made
but as they could choose the best weekend for them nearer the time at no cost or penalty they used it to there advantage."...i found it a few posts up
Thanks BB
However this evidence is hearsay and as such may not necessarily be considered admissible. Not in a court of law anyway. CC is of course not a court of law. However, I would be wary of accepting something I was told, by someone I did not know. How can you
have any gauge of accuracy in a chance conversation. I am assuming the person being quoted did not know them, as the wording is members not friends.0 -

I'm quite laid back about the subject - I generally like to holiday in stunning rural areas and not urban areas so generally don't have a problem finding a site with available pitches at short notice.
What I will comment on is a paragraph by BB in an earlier post
Quote "
speaking of 'evidence'....Peedee has repeatedly asked for stats where the amount of cancellations by date (in relation to the booking) be presented by CC......never a squeak.
Unquote.
This highlights the attitude of Grimstead to requests by members for information.0 -
Having tried several searches I have come up with this link. I suspect the forum is not up and running yet.

BB - I think you're getting a little over wraught and letting your anti CC prejudice show, judging by your second two paragraphs there. I don't take anything on here as "gospel", good or bad. I prefer to base things on my experience. I've spoken to probably hundreds of fellow members on CC sites but I've never had a casual conversation with a fellow member bragging about booking every possible weekend at the same site! Have you?

BB -I think you are reading to much into it. The post you quoted was clearly hearsay. The subjects in question referred to as members. I don't know about you but I think I would have a better idea if friends were telling porkies than strangers. As to burning
at the stake I'm pretty sure that was made illegal a few hundred years ago.0 -

M, thanks for the lecture.
however, youll note, i was referring to Steve's post (which i quoted) not yours, who was the doubting Thomas, not you but thanks for replying anyway.
no one getting overwrought, other than you by the look of it, especially over something not written by you nor aimed at you.......and no one being anti CC.
why not have a go at Steves post where he suggested the 'folk' passing on the info couldnt be telling the truth as they were only 'members' not 'friends'...
so what does that say about his view of members....?
one could easily say that was anti CC, wouldn't you say?
Not sure I understand your post there BB. I'm not one to lecture anyone and I wasn't referring specifically to your reply to Steve - the forum isn't really constructed for 2 way conversaion is it? It would need a PM system to accomplish that.
My point, once again, was that it's easy for folk to say they've spoken to someone who claims to have made a load of bookings for the same site every weekend of the year, but that's just hearsay isn't it? (I'm not even sure we know if it was on a members only site so the members/non members distinction may be irrelevant anyway)
As you so correctly point out the CC is not very forthcomng with statistics but the little that they do reveal suggests that this block booking on frenzy day is a figment of certain poster's imaginations.

Logged in and done a couple of posts, will be interesting how it develops
Well it just looks the same as CT at the moment as all I'm getting is an ERROR message. Perhaps they're using the same IT guys as CC!! OR perhaps it's been infected by some of the CT posters?
