I think it would be a disaster if the CC took more Tents personally.  We have been Members of the Club for 35 years and are very happy with it as it is now.

Yes quite agree, we don't want any of the riff raff do we! Innocent

I think the feeling might be mutual. Surprised

Tent campers would only be interested in grass pitches, provided the C club  increases the amount of hardstanding's  overall, then think Tent campers would be fine, no single sex groups etc, and usual rules. Don't see a problem, cannot however see the point in PODS ? Who are they aimed at ? And NO statics please.

Our son and family enjoyed using a pod this year, especially as it was quite cold. They could leave their tent at home, still enjoying the feel of the outdoors and stay warm and dry easily. I think pods are quite popular, people like finding new ways of camping. They would like a caravan or M/H but don't have the means at present.

A remark totally uncalled for.  When we were younger that's how we started off.  Bought a tent, then moved to a trailer tent and finally a caravan as finances allowed.  Don't tar all tent campers with the same brush.  I'd sooner have a field
of tent campers thatn some of the people we've met on CC sites!

I wonder why DianeT thinks tents would be a disaster? I have heard similar remarks on here before. Personally I don't mind seeing a mix although the CC is primarily about caravans and motorhomes. I can remember a few years back when people weren't too keen on motorhomes.

As said before both clubs need to look across the generations and find what appeals to all ages.

If we do allow more tents in then perhaps on booking day we should have a proper pecking order, M/H's take first pick, teh caravaners followed by trailer tents then the tenters can have whats left which should work fine as they want grass pitches the rest

Our all time favourite site has a mix of touring caravans, tents, motorhomes, campervans, half a dozen rental vans, and a couple of pods - plus a small swimming pool, a trampoline, a volley ball pitch, some keep fit equipment, and an owner who cooks meals
and serves drinks on the terrace. The Club site world needs to change. How about a few tree houses?

     >>>>Perhaps the next move would be to remove the restrictions on seasonal pitches in length of occupation without the need to move the caravan off site every so often and introduce seasonal fully serviced hardstanding pitches<<<<

David, as long as they don't create less available pitches by doing this then that is fine by me. It would be better if  they  built new pitches rather than restrict the availability of prime pitches by introducing these extra seasonal pitches, I'm not advocating
putting these in the worst part of the site enblock,  but I think that a lot of acrimony could and would be shown if members were to have their choice of pitch restricted.......Cool

...If there is too much demand and not enough supply for touring pitches then it seems senseless to increase the number of seasonal pitches which by definition means reducing choice for tourers.

We spend most of the year in Europe and I hate sites that have loads of seasonal pitches.  They are like ghost towns when they are not in use. I would be very disappointed if the Club (which is supposed to be a club for tourers) goes down this road.

    Oldgirl

It is not something I want to see but if in the future the Club membership sinks below 300000 what should be we do keep revenue at a level needed to support the Club? It was just a bit of blue sky thinking. All organisations have to keep upto date otherwise
they will sink. The only reason sites abroad have seasonal campers is because they can't survive without them. Those seasonal campers are being replace by the proliferation of mobiles on site, particularly in France.

Interesting discussion.  I hope someone from East Grinstead is looking in - I'm sure they are.  Apologies from me not being very consistent in following things through at the moment - things are chaotic here!  Hope to be back a bit more frequently after
    the Christmas rush!

Those commercial sites having seasonal pitches with permanently attached awnings, gazeboes, garden tool lockers, gnomes etc are just not nice to look at in my opinion. They also seem to generate a perceived superior hierarchy amongst the occupants. No, we
are a tourning club, keep to a minimum and certainly were seasonals exist, keep the T&Cs / restrictions the same as us tourers! I think the difference between club and the commercials is the very attraction which makes the club special. To assist this, just
a few pods and tents, where applicable, are a way of allowing the younger folk or potential newbies that all important taster into our pastime, which, given our warm welcome, would help.

Both Club's are great organisations, supporting the caravanning and camping industry and encouraging people to enjoy the great outdoors. The feedback in this discusison has been really interesting and I will certainly forward this thread onto colleagues
for their reference. Thanks everyone for your constructive contributions.

The thing I like about the other club is the fact they accept tents. I hate to see row upon row of caravans on hardstandings which many of the CC sites are becoming. Much prefer (in summer at least) grass pitches of caravans, tents & MH all interspersed
thus you get a broader spread of age ranges as tent campers tend to be younger.  Some CC sites can be like a residential home for old people!

Write your comments here...Some sites can also be an invitation to hooligans..................in tents!

Write your comments here...you have not stayed with the c&cc then

Write your comments here...Correct...observed only at Malvern, that was sufficient. I am not saying they are all like what we saw,but we were happy to be with the CC. We are not all alike,so you are happy to be with C&CC good! more vacancies for CC clients.

I expect everyone has had some sort of adverse experience with neighbours on a site whether in a tent or van. Both clubs are very well run and try to make sure people enjoy their holidays.

We like many other people started off with a family frame tent in 1971 and had some brilliant holidays. But I just think that the younger campers that use tents today don't seem to have the same regard for others or the same communal spirit .I am not saying
one cap fits all,it is just what it seems like to us.

I'm not sure I'd agree with you about that as quite a few younger members of our family and their friends have had to opt for camping and I think they respect others around them. I don't know what commercial sites are like but the two clubs sites seem fairly consistent regarding reasonable behaviour.

I really don't think its fair to assume that tent users are more likely to be anti-social.  We also started off camping.  In a small tent when we were just a couple and then a large frame tent when the children arrived.  We were in our 30s before we got
our first caravan which had previously been my mothers.

Maybe because the walls are canvas rather than aluminium, the noise travels easier but generally campers are not antisocial.

The Club sites that we have been to that have tent pitches have had them in a separate area all together.  There was little impact on others using the site and everything seemed to operate well.  I'm all for increasing tent provision if something has to be
    done to increase membership.

We camped for years and years before switchig to a caravan. I'd be mortified if anyone thought we were so noisy and raucous it spoiled their time!

I see nothing wrong with allowing tents on site if it's taking up previously unutilised space. If it was at the expense of touring pitches I'd think differently, but that's nothing to do with the "type" of folk who prefer canvas to metal!

I've recently swopped metal for canvas, I found the LV soul less & cumbersome now I'm back in a Tent I am feeling closer to the land & the flora & fauna, much more to my personal needs. Not attacking LV's in anyway it's all choice-the canvas is mine. I do
it on my own to enjoy the connection with the natural world. Each to their own, tenters? Darn good folkCool

Rocky, we still have a couple of tents and when we're at our holiday home in France and the weather is good we often go away in one of those instead of our motorhome.  I agree that you get a completely different feeling of really being in the great outdoors when camping.  Plus, of course, you can get to all sorts of sites in France down small country lanes that I wouldn't venture down in the van.

Write your comments here...Well I can help there Brue if your not sure.............you don't agree that is obvious!. I said one cap did not fit all .My opinion was based on what we witnessed at the site I mentioned on my earlier post and also on a commercial site that we were on in Cricceth N.Wales. Once again it is our opinion and observation, in no way do we intend to degrade camping in tents!.

We are members of both Club's but generally prefer the CC.  I do think we are in for a period of change in both clubs.

    David

What do you know David that the rest of us don't, inside knowledge methinks !!

    Admiral  Winking

I know nothing specific Admiral, but I know that the Club is aware of things like the increasing cost of caravans and the weight of them in relation to the desire of the motor industry to produce lighter cars etc.  Many young families have enough problems in getting deposits together for a house (with the potential increase of student loan debt) let alone buy a caravan.  Perhaps all this means we might be looking in to the future at a Club that accepts tents more readily (cheaper and lighter) or perhaps more static style accommodation  (no need to tow).

All this is fictional guess work on my behalf.  But if it does come to pass, remember who suggested it!!!!!   LaughingLaughingLaughing
