How does this Club compare with the ‘Other’?

They maybe but my daughter who tent camps on cycle tours has found it prohibively expensive being charged the same for her tiny outfit as a full scale car caravan combination
Write your comments here...Deleted User User, I'm not sure this is correct, a basic grass pitch will cost less than one with EHU, hardstanding etc. I see lots of backpackers and walking groups on C & CC sites. The club also has specific hobby groups like boating and mountaineering that cater for users at good rates.
edit I presume if you're cycling you would need to find a lot of sites at reasonable prices?

A couple of points not so far mentioned is that all sites accept tents and I believe all sites are open to non members.

I would have thought it better to use a CS, it stands to reason if you are allocated the same space and use the same facilities as say a solo caravaner then the price should be the same.

This Club would be a hell of a lot better if it offered Wrinlies a reduced nightly rate like that nice Friendly club in Coventry does.
I would add that the CC Network have a better quality CL's Network than the other lot

She has found a small private site that charges £5 which for a bike tiny tent and 1 persons is fair enough
I think the problem with CCC is that they might feel the camping folk use the shower block and other facilities etc much more than caravans. True or not, I dont know. I did a quick look at two CCC sites and the price came out identical for c/van and tent
on a like for like grass pitch and no electric. I can see why people get upset. I do know of a couple of CS that have reduced fees for tents. A good number of CS sites also have more in the way of showers and washing facillities than the CC CLs. £5 though
is a steal. Much more like it.0 -
We too are members of both Clubs. We joined the C&CC originally when we wanted to spend winter abroad in Spain and weren't sure what it was going to be like. As someone mentioned in an earlier comment, their overseas rallies are excellent. They give reduced site fees and there is always someone around if you have problems with anything 'foreign'. You don't have to join in any activities if you don't want to.
In the UK we use whichever Club has a site in the area we want to visit. We like the other Club because family members with tents can use the same site as us. They also give pensioners a discount.
What we don't like about the other Club is:
*They direct you to your pitch rather than allowing you to choose
*The C&CC site layout often has rows of pitches where you may be in the middle with vans/tents on all 4 sides of you.
*Some C&CC sites have statics or lodges on them and we prefer just touring sites.
*If you book in advance it must be for a minimum of 2 nights
*You have to pay a deposit to book0 -

Our President.
No royal dukes being available this time round the Club settled on a viscount, but he has since been upgraded. Some of you must have voted for him - though he was the only candidate on the ballot paper.

I simply suggested it, bearing in mind that ownership of a tent is a major discriminator between CC & CCC and the other extreme from an Airstream.
Just think of all the additional places you could camp out at with a tent.

We are members of both Club's but generally prefer the CC. I do think we are in for a period of change in both clubs.

The other club has also branched out into holiday lodges, there are some big differences but the two clubs compliment each other and offer more choice if you belong to both.
They also introduced
Ready Camp at 17 sites this year along side other Glamping offers.peedee

To an earlier poster about CC&C selecting your pitch for you. They do allocate pitches but if you don't like it you can select an alternative and if they can accommodate they are happy to do so. You do pay £1 per night extra for hard standing, which was introduced a couple of years ago. Also if you are over 60 and a club member you do get an age concession rate on sites, I am not sure of the percentage but something in the region of 20%. Not always though, especially on their popular sites, e.g. Keswick in high season.

The thing I like about the other club is the fact they accept tents. I hate to see row upon row of caravans on hardstandings which many of the CC sites are becoming. Much prefer (in summer at least) grass pitches of caravans, tents & MH all interspersed
thus you get a broader spread of age ranges as tent campers tend to be younger. Some CC sites can be like a residential home for old people!0
