Three Quarter Length Shorts
Inspired by another thread......
Can anyone explain what these things are about?
These are the garment that are halfway between shorts and trousers. They are like trousers, but end halfway between knee and ankle.......like trousers that have badly shrunk.
Do the wearers hope to get a tan on the lower few inches of their legs? Could they not make their mind up between trousers and shorts that day??
MrsH and I refer to them as "Dork-shorts".......because the wearer looks such a dork.
Can anyone explain them? Does anyone admit to wearing them??

IanH, the proper term is Crop's and yes I do wear them, being fairly tall mine come a little below the knee not halfway down the leg. I love my shorts and wear them when its nice and hot, but there are times and places that crop's are more appropriate, I
don't do skirts and rarely wear dresses.

I have shorts for swimming shorts for walking shorts for posing and shorts below the knee with lots of pockets for hiking, but I Don, t have any speedo,'s how about you Ian
No speedos for me, MrRoute (perish the thought!)........but I do look pretty damn good in lycra shorts!

Shorts - lovely - the shorter the better from my point of view. I've got short legs and I have spent last 4 yrs or so trying to get shorts that are short enough!
Bermudas are OK in Bermuda but in the UK I want a tan line that is 6 inches above my knee caps.

If you have legs as old as mine "long shorts" cover the "patchy" bits yet keep my lower legs aired and cool!
+1, they are also good when doing the gardening on a hot day.
Maybe if we were lucky enough to have your shapely legs, we would not need them Ian.

They are cooler than cargo trousers yet still have room for additional pockets. One can also paddle without the labour of rolling up one's trousers which look even more naff, particularly with knotted hanky accessories.

I wear shorts from as early in the year as I can, usually a week or two before Easter and won't wear a pair of full trousers till sometime in November, when it starts to cool down a bit. I too have a few pairs of crops for when I feel like dressing up.

Unsightly fashion, think they are what skate boarders wear started in the USA ,
most are young men /boys but many oldies now wearing them and look absolutely ridiculous and even worse when they wear them with socks and crocs

My OH wouldn't be seen in public in shorts. It's hard enough to get him to wear them in the garden at home. He doesn't like being sockless either.
It takes all sorts.

My husband wears his shorts as often as he can ( never 3 quarter length though) he thinks his legs are his best asset and puts them on show as often as possible. Such a poser!
But I must admit they are looking good even at 55.

All my shorts are 3/4 length (just below the knee), it gives you extra Pockets when hiking and protects your knees if you need to kneel down
What I find odd is the men who break out thier nylon micro running shorts they wore back in the 70s at university whenever the sun comes out, usually accompanied with sandals and socks and a white sun hat with a zip pocket on the side

Shorts above the knee on most 'elderly' men is worse than acid reflux, let's face it legs and bum are not the best asset when getting on a bit. Saggy bum and spindly legs really need to be covered up fast, and whether that be by normal length trousers or
cropped ones, it doesn't matter but cropped ones allow better air circulation on hot days.I wear below the knee cropped, but look good in anything

Older men wearing cropped trousers just look like over grown school boys with shorts that are too
long Not a good look ....Shorts just slightly above the knee are far more flattering on men of any age

Idon't think they look like 'dork shorts'. Shorts are above the knee . . . as Tammygirl said they are called Crops (shorter trousers). These look good on taller men as shorts can often look too short! Men with skinny legs also look better in crops as
there is not so much leg 'hanging' out on show!!! hee hee

"Dork shorts" is a very good description! As I said earlier, they can only look good on tall, young men My son is tall (6'3") and just 30 years old, and even he is starting to look a bit silly wearing these things

"Dork" seems apt - we call them "clown pants" as such things were at one time only seen in the circus. These "almost trousers" are actually uncomfortable to wear as the hem line chaffs against the knee. Shorts are meant to be, well, SHORT!
