Woke to a beautiful sunny day at Berwick on Tweed, packed up taking our time as not going far(Whitley Bay) it's a 13.00 arrival here now. Lovely sunshine on arfroml, front row pitch with a great view only
downside the Warden is a bit of a jobsworth but thats another story. Weather has now clouded over and forecast isn't looking great still
we are not far from the Metro, might just do a bit of shopping.Hope the vans securely tied down, as there's high notherly winds forecast for the next couple of days down the East coast.

Had a great evening last night. Son played a gig with his Irish Folk Group called Darragh Folk (he plays double bass) . As it was in their local pub 8 year old grand-daughter was asked to play her penny whistle with them for the first half hour or so. It was great to see them playing together. I then nipped her back home to mummy and went back for the rest of the evening. An amazing (very Irish) night. Great fun.
Very jealous of you Millie. I just love proper Irish Music. Has your son's group any of their music on line?

Just about beat the rain this morning. As we were only moving down to Penrith we didn't leave Englethwaite till 11:15 and managed a couple of shortish walks before setting off. Light rain when we got to site but were able to set up in the dry. Another walk,
through Stainton village, after lunch and now the rains started again. Spent an hour or so this evening looking for suitable CLs for our Dec/Jan trip. Hope we've found enough to sort out a decent tour, just got to fix on dates and try getting them booked.0 -
It's been absolutely manic with work this evening. We're collecting a KFC order at the moment and this is the first moment I've had time to post this evening because KFC are taking a bit longer with the order.

rain has started, no wind yet, we are right on the front row with nothing to the side of us so if its bad we will get the brunt of it side
on could be a rocky night.0 -
Malcolm - I think that you may have mis-understood the VAT thing.
Businesses all pay VAT, just like the rest of us. However, if you turn over quite a substantial amount of money each year through your business, you would need to be VAT registered. You will not be.
If you are VAT registered, you might be able to claim back some VAT or set it against the VAT that you charge customers for your goods and services and hand over the the VAT man.
So sorry Malcolm....you will still be paying VAT
Write your comments here...You're right, Ian. I just checked the pending transactions on my bank account and it's £87.58. The pump price was £88.40. So there is some saving of £0.82 but that is all. So yes, it seems I am paying VAT because I have been charged
the gross amount, not the net amount showing on the invoice. So it seems there's not much advantage in using the fuel card after all!0 -
Malcolm - another thing - make sue that you've told HMRC about your state pension, because they will need to reduce your personal tax allowance to take account of it, to avoid you under-paying tax through the year.
You don't actually pay income tax on a state pension, but you will in all probability have to pay it instead on your other earnings, pensions etc.
Write your comments here...They are already deducting tax on one of my private pensions, so it seems they know already.
Never assume anything about HMRC........always tell them, preferably in writing.
The fact that you are paying tax on one of your private pensions means nothing.......unless you have checked that you are paying the correct amount of tax, taking into account all your other income sources.
Just tell them, to avoid a tax bill at a later date.
Write your comments here...If the bill comes at a later date, I'll pay it as soon as I get it. I think it can be paid online by debit or credit card, so easily done. All that is needed is to keep sufficient funds available and with daily funding from dinner2go
in delivery fees that shouldn't be impossible!0 -
After all that rain yesterday afternoon, we've got up to a lovely sunny morning here in Worthing and the Autumn colours are glowing in the sunshine. It's a lovely view from our caravan front window!

Malcolm, I think you will find the onus is on you to tell the tax man, rather than the tax man to chase you. I find it easiest to write them a letter once a year detailing my finances. Occasionally I even get money back.
Write your comments here...Whilst I'm a bit new to all this, hopefully it will all fall into place. It's a long time before the next tax return is due.
It's so different from PAYE where the tax is deducted at source and you are paid the net amount. With self-employment tax is effectively on credit until the tax return is due and is paid in a lump sum once a year. It's like having a credit card where you
settle annually instead of monthly!0 -

dont assume they know all your details....

Had to go food shopping this morning, usually try and avoid Saturday in the supermarket, but haven't had time this week. Cupboards were looking very bare. Noticed lots of Christmas stuff has appeared on the shelves, trouble is if I buy chocolates now, I'll
have eaten them all by Christmas! The sun has appeared so all washing is drying on the line outside, hopefully.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Looking to improve their cash flow I think.

Spent £50 on food this morning. So what, I hear you say. Well, it was all on bird food! I don't start feeding the little blighters again until November and needed to restock on seeds, peanuts, fat balls and also some apples. Hope they appreciate it!
We're being inundated at the moment with beech mast. It's everywhere.

WN, I feed them all year round !
When I'm away my neighbour takes over just as I do for his Homing Pigeons.
At a very rough estimate it costs me about £1-50 per day. Am I complaining -- no way . Too much pleasure
watching them playing silly soldiers with different groupings. Also its a most definite reason to get up and out on a cold, sodden foggy morning after the "Night Before"The thing that annoys me is their changing tastes -- if I put a 5" square 'slab' out tomorrow morning then by Monday night it will be gone, but the fat balls have been sitting there for over 10 days now. I suppose
I will have to replace them with fresh ones , Crush the old and mix in with the next days general feed. Probably last about 35 mins !!0 -

Sitting here in my Office { spare bedroom } half playing on CT, half watching Wales -- Australia with the
occasional peek at FA Cup scores. I think I'll take 5 for a fresh brew and spend a few mins lookins at, and admiring, my nice new TV License { only cost me £12:12
} before I hang it in pride of place somewhere warm !!0 -
The first hour was quiet and we got into the false security of feeling that it was going to be an easy day. Then suddenly we realised how wrong we were. From 13:15 onwards, it went absolutely manic. One after the other, non-stop! We're at KFC Broadwater
as I type this awaiting collection of the next order. We've just done a KFC delivery in Shoreham. The drive back from Shoreham along the A27 was lovely in the setting sun. Nice views along that route. I think part of it is in an AONB.
