Just rang house insurance people as renewal notice in. Yes I know there's a thread somewhere will add to it later. Got it down by £3 not much but worth my time. That's same price as last year Perturbed they thought we new to them last year, as been with at least 38 years maybe more!!!

Quite a good day here after a really dreich one yesterday, sun is warming the house nicely.

Yesterday we were at DD's house for several hours, trying to find a replacement toilet seat for an unusually shaped toilet, but we failed.  We have found one that can be used, but it is quite different from the present one so she was not sure about it.  She
is going to Plumb Centre tomorrow to see if they can supply an exact replacement before deciding.

I think when she finds out what that would cost, she may well change her mind!!  The other problem is that she does not know the model name of the toilet.  It is by Ideal Standard, about 4 years old, but we cannot spot it on their website.

While down there I was dispatched to her in-law's house to see if I could get their CH boiler to work, it refused to start up.  Turned out it had lost pressure, it's a combi boiler, so once I topped it up it started up OK.  Seems they have a leak on the
system, I have given them the phone number of the fellow we use.

Just got in from a few scoops with BIL and best friend who has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  We have known each other since 1965 and married 2 sisters.  Really positive attitude and had a great laugh, reminiscing about the old days.  Good couple
of hours and left feeling better for him. So a really positive day!

Bakers2 - your gift sounds lovely.

I've had a productive day alone in the caravan. I've written all my Christmas cards! So chuffed as its a job I hate doing. Bring on Christmas now! Smile

KjellNN is there no end to your talents? I'm so  impressed. I thought we were a house that can turn it's hand to anything but you have more strings to your bow!

We too have an oddshaped toilet, had no idea when purchased few years back. I hate it as it doesn't flush well either, but that's another tale. Replacement from ROC themselves, £35. I want it changed hubby says we need to get one where exit pipe same height
and width as this, reasonable I suppose as fully tiled bathroom and house repebbledashed after fitting. Lack the time and the will to sort, I'll just keep flushing a couple of times. I love being somewhere when pulling the chain allows sufficient water to
do the job. no pun intended

I'm just putting together our son's partner present.  She is a great handIt's aft doer although time is very limited.  Last year I saw a wonderful panel which would make a super Christmas cushion, sort of thing you're unlikely to buy for yourself.  Didn't
buy it (boy do I regret that now???).  Nothing available in our craft fabric or haberdashery shops so decide on DIY kit.  Yesterday I bought two cushion inners, half a metre of christmas material - spoilt for choice! decided on cream background black outlined
small robins with just the red breast (very tasteful I could well be back to buy more for myself but I'd choose something different mustn't copy!) infinitely cheaper than the panels
Surprised) plain red for the reverse and a reel of red cotton.  All she has to do is the sewing, when the opportunity arises before next
Christmas (Her and our son are off to visit our daughter and family in NZ and spending New Year's Eve in Sydney with previous work friends who moved there about 3 years ago.  I digress, but since its Christmas here work for her on 27 & 28th that will be the
reason they won't appear before next year!).  She is not a machine sew-er (had to put hyphen in otherwise not a nice word
Wink) but inherited her late Grandmother's sewing machine last year and hasn't used it yet.  I thought this would be a great simple project to get
her started.  Have packaged up to look attractive, material making a star shape on the top of the cushions.  Needed to hold altogether - yep red ribbon.  Several attempts, it's not a solid shape thank goodness for long pins and YouTube visits (how many ways
are there to tie a bow???) It looks beautiful.  Now to put it in the cellophane bag I bought and wrap properly in Christmas paper.  I do hope all my presents don't take this long
Laughing to do as I've been a couple of hours already.

Wish I could post photo to show you how attractive and festive it looks - but you'll have to use your imagination
    Sealed

We are off to visit them tomorrow and stay over, a first usually do there and back in a day, but hubby's birthday and we are invited to firework do there too, so not sure if we'll see them again before Christmas day

    Write your comments here...

What a lovely present B2 you have put so much thought and work into it.

Thanks milliehull I try. I'm known to be trying

Continuing heavy rain here but at least we don't have to go to work until 5 p.m. today. So time to relax in the caravan and get settled back in after our journey. We won't be putting the awning up this time. We're on hardstanding and it's only for three
nights before we go back to Littlehampton.

There's a notice to say everyone must be off by 12 noon on Monday, no exceptions!

Can I say what I was up to on Wednesday?  We went to see the 'Weeping Window' If poppies at Caernafon Castle (similar poppies to those at the Tower of London in 2014).  It was great and quite moving, as were the tribute poppies placed in the ground by members
of the public.  There were not just the normal Crosses, but the Crescent, and the Star of David, each in memory of someone who died during the First or Second World War.  The area set aside for them has already extended to a much wider area of the lawned ground.

The day was beautiful, and the new marina/wharfe/Victoria dock area of Caernafon is lovely.  We parked in Morrison's car park, and walked around the marina to the Castle. The sunset over the Menai straights was spectacular too.  It's definitely worth a visit
if you are anywhere in the area, and it's free of charge to go in and to have a look around the Castle.

Back home to Abersoch, then out for a meal at the Sun at Llanengan (excellent food and definitely worth a visit) and then took part in the pub quiz, coming second!!!  We've booked to go back for my friend's (special) birthday in December.  A great day all
    round.

Sounds a wonderful day out ValDa.  We did The Tower ones, truly moving.  I have heard nothing about this one, or others if they exist?  Possibly because we are about as far away from Caernafon?! Never been to Caernafon that's now added to the list.

A post of use, pleasant to read and learn from. Smile

The Poppies (Weeping Window and Wave) are touring the UK up until the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1. There are locations available on the website:
1418Now which gives you the locations throughout 2016, 2017 and 2018.

It's definitely worth a visit if the exhibition is in your area.

...We went the one in Perth, it was at the Black Watch museum, finished there I in October. As ValDa says lovely to see.

Among my many talents is always knowing where something is. It comes in handy when asked who did we buy a weigh cell from a couple of years ago? And what was the serial number.

Checked my VAT records, searched for what I thought was the name, found the invoice in the 2014 Accounts Box. In the Box Room of course!

Downside; by 3 o clock the supplier was shutting up shop, computer turned off, no idea if they had one. Call again on Monday!

...everyone needs a little light relief Bakers2. I love your present idea, it sounds lovely. I'm hopeless at presents Frown my niece got Mum
a lovely preset of a cushion for her 90th birthday recently, it was a photo of my Mum taken in front of the kelpies, that is then printed onto fabric and made into a cushion. Has pride of place on her bed.

I have just spent a good part of the last 4 days filling out a 40 page forn so that my handicapped daughter might continue to receive her benefits following a system change. It arrived with a 3 week deadline to be completed and returned or payment (of her
exisitng benefit) would automatically cease, just fortunate we were at home to open the post. A very depressing exercise.

Don't have personal experience but have a friend who does so you have my sympathies. Her daughter lives indepently in a specialised place, with assistant x many hours a day. This is now being cut, analysis with care home manager and social worker some object
to save money.  I do hope nothing changes for your daughter.

Had a great evening last night. Son played a gig with his Irish Folk Group called Darragh Folk (he plays double bass) . As it was in their local pub 8 year old grand-daughter was asked to play her penny whistle with them for the first half hour or so. It
was great to see them playing together. I then nipped her back home to mummy and went back for the rest of the evening. An amazing (very Irish) night. Great fun.

Brilliant!  This is his best yet! Laughing

Where do we go from here though?  Is there anything better than not paying VAT when you aren't VAT registered?

It is getting ridiculous, no one fron CC management seems to be interested in sorting this out. Moderators have stepped in with advice to no avail, it will carry on til the bitter end and everyone will be put off posting on here. I thought this forum was about the leisure industry, holidays and touring not someone's questionable personal saga that changes on a daily basis. Am I complaining, yes loud and clear! We've been here before with one or two previous trolls and it's not good for any of us. We're the losers with this one. I miss seeing the friendly chat, it's getting more difficult to post because of the constant verbal bombardment, 24 hours of it on occasions.

Well I find a lot of Malcolm's posts very entertaining and interesting. Not all, I must admit, but he has cut back on detailing every order he gets.

Some others also discuss what they did today and I might not find them interesting......so i just skip over them. It's not difficult.

    WEIRD,  WEIRD, WEIRD  !!

Went  up  to  aged  sister  this  morning  --  nothing  to  do,  just  couple  of  hours  chatting  and  watching  the  tweets  ducking  and  diving  from  the  trees  &  bushes  onto  the  various  feeders  and  into  he  B-bath  for  a  drink,  then  back
    to  the  feeding  Laughing.

Then  we  spotted  the  neighbours  kitten  sitting  in  a  tree  watching--  no  attacking,  no  chasing,  just  watching. Eventually  we  shooed  it  off,  gently  of  course,  but  twice  it  came  back Then  we  discovered  it  was  taking  some  of
the  diced/cubed  bread  scattered  around. So  the  shoooing  was  repeated.  Eventually  it  disappeared.

An  hour  ago  got  a  tee-hee-mail  from  The Elderly  One  !!

The  neighbours  had  arrived  home  to  find  the  kitten,  back  in  the  correct  basket  guarding  a  pile  of  stale  bread   which  it  was  non  too  happy  to  have  taken  away!!

    WEIRD,  ??  You  Bet  !!!

Malcolm - I think that you may have mis-understood the VAT thing.

Businesses all pay VAT, just like the rest of us. However, if you turn over quite a substantial amount of money each year through your business, you would need to be VAT registered. You will not be.

If you are VAT registered, you might be able to claim back some VAT or set it against the VAT that you charge customers for your goods and services and hand over the the VAT man.

So sorry Malcolm....you will still be paying VAT
