Just having a catch up on here.  At long last NZ photos sorted and photobook ordered - oh for the days of films that you dropped off and collected prints!  Digital allows never ending snapping and endless sorting...............

Been really busy since our return, house and garden now reasonable.  We have spent two days slashing and pruning my mothers garden, she has someone to cut her grass and hedges but the rest has been getting away from her over the last years, it's all perennials
and shrubs.  I asked her what she wanted for her birthday and she said a couple of hours gardening.  Nextdoor has wisteria that goes mad over her side as well as other thuggish plants with no maintance.........  Ended up with at least 20 hours - she's well
pleased and we're knackered.........  Still easy on the pocket Wink

Good to catch up on your news and trips - glad those of you who are away are enjoying themselves.  Sorry for the health issues - wishing all better.

Getting over the grieving period, happens when we leave them knowing we won't physically be together for at least 18 months, much harder this time
Don't cry.  They have not been too well, tummy bugs and broken nights - just when we can't help, still we all had to cope on our own.

Looking forward to some time, hopefully a couple of weeks, out in the motorhome - it's had little use this year and we need to blow the cobwebs out of the engine.  Want to visit my elderly relative who has moved into residential care in Lytham St Annes,
huge move from London whilst we were away.  So in an effort to spend some time with him we are looking at exploring the area, OH had business trips to Liverpool and declared it an area he didn't want to travel too
Embarassed, but has conceeded that was 20 years ago and things are probably different now.  So researching the area for sites and things
to do, hope to pop to The Lakes for a bit of autumn colour.  Any suggestions gratefully received.

Our son and dog are here for the weekend, he's watching the golf after hectic week at work - lovely to have rooms occupied again, for a short while you understand
    Wink.

Lovely weather this morning here in Barnard Castle, so we went up to High Force.  By the time we got there it was raining, but did not last very long so we got on our boots and had a leisurely walk to the waterfall.

Lots of water in the river so it was both noisy and impressive.

Afterwards we went into Barnard Castle for lunch and a wander around.

Tomorrow is our last day away as we are due home on Sunday.

That is Mr H's home area Kj and we love it up there. Glad you had a good day today but a shame about the bad weather a few days sgo. Safe journey home.

We just got woken up by the patter of a heavy rain shower on the caravan roof. It's stopped now. Just made a pot of tea which is brewing as I type. It looks like it's going to be a typical October day weatherwise!

Nice to hear from you B2.  Glad you are beginning to settle in back home.  It must take some adjusting to.  So difficult to leave the family in NZ. I do feel for you. Glad you have your son and dog with you this weekend.  Hope you get out in your motorhome
    soon.

A quick update on our Canadian trip. We've moved on from Toronto to Kingston en route for Ottawa.

Toronto is a typical North American city - overwhelmed with skyscrapers and choked with traffic, very little of any age left. But the CN tower is a great attraction giving fantastic views of the cityscape and over Lake Ontario. Even managed to persuade Mrs
M to venture onto the glass floor! We also did a harbour cruise which goes over to one of the little islands where the well-to-do have their holiday cottages and where you get the most attractive views of Toronto's waterfront.

Then we did the traditional tourist trip out to Niagara Falls. The town/city itself is horribly commercialised but the falls themselves are every bit as breathtaking as the tourist blurb claims and the trip on the little boats that take you almost to the
foot of the falls is the experience of a lifetime.

Now we're at Kingston and our hotel is right on the waterfront. It's a much smaller city and all together more pleasant. Just here for the one night then off to Ottawa later today. Happy

..Do not tell a Canadian that anything is typical "North American"  they will be chucking outSurprised

It's been a hectic week (and more to come next week). Last Friday we went to a brilliant gig - Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band. Twelve very accomplished musicians and assorted instruments on a small low stage with us on the front row. Absolutely awesome.

On Sunday we went to  Englethwaite Hall for three nights. It only took an hour to get there, but another ninety minutes to return home and back for the forgotten EHU cable.

Back home on Wednesday and a quick catch up with some of the outstanding jobs, before our son left for a couple of days away at our milk buyers AGM.

Various farm admin work this morning, before sitting down for a. bit. Then off out again to another gig (John Bramwell).  New to me, but looked interesting so I bought tickets. As far I can see social life is well provided for in the next few months (more gigs plus 70th birthday parties).

Next week we concentrate on the farm. Annual inspection by the Soil Association on Tuesay. It has been called, in farming circles, "brown trouser day"

All settled in to the villa now, left the apartment at 10.00 and arrived here at 10.15Laughing just a quick drive round to the next bay.
What a place, the villa sits almost at the top of a hill with views to die for right across the bay and far out to sea. It has its own small swimming pool which is a nice temp not cold at all lovely to cool off in.  It is still very warm (hot) here still mid
30s at least we are getting a nice breeze being higher up now. We even get a couple of UK tv channels BBC1 and ITV1 wifi is pretty good and free of courseWink This
is the way to live not sure if i can manage to put up with it for another week Laughing Hope everyone is having a good time whatever you
    are up to.

I'm on my 12th delivery today. It has been absolutely manic. However, we did get a short break and used it to make a cream tea. Now we're parked outside KFC in Goring by sea next to the Mulberry Hotel. The sun is out but not for long. It's rapidly setting as I type this. After collection, we need to deliver to an address at Heene Terrace, next to the Burlington hotel on the sea front.

Bakers, if you heading towards Lytham then there's no need to go to Liverpool, although I suggest that you'll miss seeing a really interesting city, much improved from 20 years ago (and miles better than the one I left in the late 70's). Simply stay at the
Cc site at Southport or Blackpool. You can actually catch the train to Scouseville from Southport . Any which way the air will be refreshing. Lytham is lovely so hope all goes well.

Stocked up with goodies this morning. Impressed the French lady waiting in the queue behind me with my order of some seriously smelly cheese. Mrs WN insists that we use it for lunch tomorrow before the smell becomes too ingrained into the fabric of the van!

Thanks Wherenext, I fancy a tour at least, of Liverpool.  How far is the railway station from either Southport or Liverpool? We have a motorhome and are happy to walk to station provided decent pavements. Seen a commercial site at Lytham, eastham, so contemplating
that for a night or two for convenience. Also want some autumn colour so may go to The Lakes for that - unless I can find, or someone can suggest elsewhere.  Want to spend a couple if days together at beginning and end of trip.

Does anyone know how national trust at Formby is as regards disabled? Walking issues, uses a wheeled tripod now .  Can you hire/use wheelchair or similar? We'd love to see red squirrels and hoped that maybe something to do with him.

Bakers, it's an easy 10 minute walk to Southport train station from site, which is on edge of town. Train drops you in centre of Liverpool.

Sorry, can't help with Formby but remember they do have boardwalks into the dunes and trees.

Went over to Darlington today to look at a MH, Hymer Exsis-t 598, which we thought looked good on paper.  However we did not like it "in the flesh" .....kitchen area too small and shower too small......so that is off the list.

Further update from Canada! We've had 2 nights in Ottawa and move on tomorrow to Huntsville in one of the National Parks, hoping for some long walks in the forests and to see the true "fall colours".

Ottawa is one huge building site at the moment as the country prepares for its 150th anniversary next year. But despite this we thought it was a much more pleasant place than Toronto. Last evening we strolled up to the parliament buildings and, quite unexpectedly,
discovered that they were putting on a special free lights show, called Northern Lights, it told the history of Canada all projected on to the parliament buildings themselves. There was a huge crowd there, all very good natured and we couldn't help contrasting
it to the sort of experience you might have in huge crowds back in London! Today we've gone on a cruise up the Ottawa river which gave great views across the city.

We have an early start in the morning, but it seems as if it will be well worth it as we met a couple today doing the tour in the opposite direction who told us that the forest colours up in the Algonquin national park were just at the point of turning into
magnificent reds and oranges, so fingers crossed for a good couple of days there! Happy

We've just got up to a bit of a grey start to the morning but at least it's not raining. I find I can sleep a lot better with this cooler weather.

Chipping Sodbury Caravans said they would contact me once they've got the necessary part to fix the air-conditioner but not heard anything yet.

it all day. OH has other ideas though, he's prowling round muttering something about lunch, guess I'd better go and feed him, he's already started in on the caramel sweetsLaughing not
so hot today as we have a few clouds only 29c at the moCool
