Pitching Instruction
Just returned from a club site. I don’t go on many but notice when I do I’m always told how to pitch. One warden even used a model car and caravan as an example. The latest visit was no exception. I tried saying I had been a member for 30 years and new about
the rule. Still didn’t work and I left the office with that infamous instruction embedded in my brain.
I found a pitch, reversed in and was about 2 feet away from the peg so being the good citizen I am pulled forward and re-aligned, perfect. It was then that I noticed the caravan on the pitch opposite. I will just have to put the picture into words as I don’t
know how to upload from a camera phone.
The view was from the the road at the rear of the pitch, caravan to the extreme right with wheel just about touching the pitch perimeter. The rear van side corner of the awning was on the peg. You must be starting to get the picture now. So where was the
car? On the gravel in front of the awning you say. Wrong. ¾ of it was parked on the grass apron strip between one pitch and the next.
So back to the instruction from the warden. Why, Why,Why because to make matters worse the warden then came around the back of the caravans with his small lawnmower so he couldn’t fail to have been aware of the set up. The same situation was noticed on another
pitch albeit without the awning
Mr. Warden please don’t ever again tell me about rules especially that one if you as the person instructing can’t police it
Rant over

The difference is that you listened to the instructions and the others didn't
Write your comments here...Husky, with 30 years experience, I don't think that Harryb needed a lecture on the subject on pitching.

Was it a "lecture" or just a couple of words explaining the procedure ,yes I know how and where to pitch but I just them go through their mantra ,and then get on with my holiday

How does the warden know that Harry is such an experienced vanner ?

Good point Alex. It may be more tactful to ask if the camper knows the rule for pitching and then follow up with something like "If you reverse in it's offside to white peg?" to which camper nods wisely, long-sufferingly, you're not talking to an idiot
you know, or "sorry, say that again".In general I would like to see wardens enforce the rules more, such as people who don't keep their dogs on a lead (we always do), or turn up early etc.....

The experienced caravanner that I am, I always pitch to the peg on club sites
Anyway when booking in at Ayr earlier this week I listened to the pitching advice given by the warden, no problem said I but do you know the CC website shows Craigie gardens photos as all pitching wrongly. No said he but his wife appeared around the corner and agreeing with me said they were photos of up to 10 years old
Here was me thinking I was free to pitch any which way, Probably the same photos will be there another 10 years.
Have to say though, the pitching on this site by everyone near to us is spot on, very neat and tidy but if there's a need to tell each arrival it should be important enough to enforce it

Maybe a more relaxed approach is possible. Did you get any grief Harry. I realise rules is rules, but is there any harm done mucker ? Nobody is out to cause you bother or hack you off intentionally.

ps. I understand certain things annoy people and it's each to their own. Eg, perfectly fit people parking in disabled bays at supermarkets. ( My pet hate ).

No blue badge on show. 18 in gym gear. Possibly ? But I'm making sweeping generalisations and hijacking Harry's thread.

Thanks Dave
That's my point exactly.
Someone pitches to the right (in my OP) the next pitch parks to the left and now you have a different scenario with a different rule coming in
It's got to be enforced

Write your comments here... Your membership card shows how long you have been a member. Mine says 28 years yet I still get the instruction but it does not bother me, it is all part of being in the club.
Not sure which site this was but certainly I have seen wardens move badly pitched members do it again. Saw a motorhome with a huge awning moved last year after he must have spent a lot of time setting up. He was not happy but did do it.

I think that some people are missing the point.
As Harry has said - why spend time writing a set of rules and then have the rule about how to pitch explained to every new arrival (with diagrams and models - which suggests that this is the most important rule of the lot)........only to then completely
ignore it when people don't follow it?I've seen several times where wardens have driven past someone pitching up incorrectly - even passing the time of day with them - and saying nothing about the fact that they were on the completely wrong side of the pitch!
I'm surprised that the recent fire on a CC site hasn't meant that some wardens have had a rocket up them about incorrect pitching.

I missed the infamous white peg earlier this week by about 2 feet on North Yoork Moors site. There was a lovely flower bed in the way (grrr) stopping me swinging car round far enough so I'm afraid couldn't be bothered! Awning wasn't going up and still had
the fire gap. Nothing said.0 -
I'm with Ian and Harry, the rule is about safety. What gets my goat is the fact that they either have a model or a drawing which seems to foster the belief that we are all idiots who can't understand verbal communication
Maybe some of us are

At times it is difficult not to come to this conclusion.
