Excessive site charges

Well, I'm just looking at the example of Haven, SB and Morris, all of whom make special offers out of season and then whack up prices horrendously during school holidays. If it's not to subsidise those special deals, I can only conclude they whack up those
prices simply because they can! Not very family friendly is it?0 -

You wont want to hear this but for the benefit of anyone who has yet to look at sites elsewhere £18 or €22.83 is not reasonable for a "non luxury" site in April, it is very expensive.
Well (a) I'm not paying in euros and I assume you're talking about sites in Europe (excuse me yawning) and (b) as far as we're concerned £18 is quite acceptable given that it includes a bank holiday. Stupid, I know, but there we are, that's just us!
Additionally, if we added in ferry and fuel costs and the costs of getting the dogs sorted for overseas, it would work out far more expensive per night unless we were going for, say a couple of months. But we have family and volunteering commitments at home which means 3 weeks is the longest we can realistically be away. So for us, it's good value!

...That does take into account the cost of getting to the euro priced sites of course ? for a short break i mean up to two weeks, not the months that would i think make it a viable option, as most of us living in the UK cannot do

Exactly, David, that is the difference. As has been pointed out more than once, this is a discussion about
UK site prices. That means this side of the Channel and you are not comparing like with like - again.0 -
David, I really can't understand why you feel the need to keep banging on about overseas sites in this UK section. Does it not occur to you that there are many, like us, who simply don't want to take a caravan abroad? That's our choice isn't it? And as such, oft repeated claims about the superiority of overseas sites is both tiresome and irrelevant.
We enjoy visiting Europe; in June we're on a walking holiday in Slovenia; we'll be staying in a good hotel and eating out at a variety of local restaurants. That's my idea of "luxury", not a pitch in a foreign field, whatever extras the site might offer.

It does get a bit boring how much better things seem to be "over there" for people who can spend weeks where they can recoup the much higher cost of getting there, where as most people can only spend a couple of weeks at a time which means staycations and
would probably work out cheaper even with the "high?" charges which are probably a lot to do with the increasing regulations that we in the UK implement compared to some countries who "acknowledge" them? One example is the european directive that mains sewerage is installed, but a lot of the French "mayors" have ignored, and some friends of ours who came over for Chistmas were telling us will not happen as is the usual French"shrug"

Hmm, well I hope those who travel abroad do so because they like it rather than because it's cheaper. We're like many on here with limited
scope for travel due to commitments/pets/quite like it here etc etc. but the cost of our holidays is not so important as the quality both in time and money.0 -
Still no offers for a rate at Lady Margaret based on the information given.
For an "old site" and the area its not a problem for us ,there are a lot worse,I wonder if it is leased and coming up for renewal ?if so the cc are like any organisation going to spend big money until it has a future , ...

I am not sure what Deleted User User thinks we can do about it. Sites, like for like, are more expensive here than over the water, that's just how it is. OK you have a choice of which sites to go at and you can mix and match to get the best deals, but overall
you will pay more per night. It happens with other things, such as iPhones, they always seem to be much cheaper in the USA, however if you want one you have to pay the price in GB. What they cost elsewhere is somewhat irrelevant.0 -

What they cost elsewhere is somewhat irrelevant.Exactly the point some of us keep making, Steve.

There was planning 2 years go to increase the site.Hardly likely to be if the lease was up. Have the "peak" people wondered what will happen to prices now that we "off peakers" are going elsewhere thus reducing the clubs income. One way only extra premiums
at peak times.0 -

...And was there a reason it was not implemented did the landlord object? before the cc purchased Black Knowl ,there had been years when no big needed upgrade was feasable as the landlord would not renew the lease long term,Baltic Wharf is in that situation now,as the cc is not going to put big money in

The nub of this discourse appears to be the amount the CC charge in low season for a site with relatively basic facilities. With low occupancy rates, they do not seem to have grasped the notion of discounted offers to increase low serason occupancy on the
basis that 'half a loaf is better than no bread".0 -
On the subject of pitch fees: I was led to believe that AS sites allowed Club members a discount on the usual `Joe Public' fees- otherwise what is the point of them?
As featured in this months magazine, the Club has now welcomed East Fleet Farm in Dorset as an Affiliated Site- but I note that the tarrif on the Clubs website is exactly the same as that quoted on East Fleets website. Am I missing something here?
