New Booking System

I speculate that I will be alive, fit, and well enough to attend at the booking - yet I have to make a financial committment to The Caravan "Club". Does my deposit get refunded when they resell the pitch I've not been able to use . . . ?

It seems by conversations with other "older" long time members the days of keeping this club afloat during off-peak periods may well be coming to an end ,especially with it seems the withdrawal of mid week discounts next year and the increases in site fees that keep coming even after a booking has been made 🤔

This club has been very backward at coming forward (not surprised) with what if any system is in place to offer any refunds of deposits if as many of us if a certain age need ongoing medical assistants which can happen at short notice 🤔
Lucky we were able to change to a site nearer home to cover OHs latest NHS visit

A shambles of a booking system, we all know the saying 'If it ain't broken then don't fix it'
I am trying to find out about mid week 50% off, seems that is also gone unless it is called something else.
Sorry but I am really confused as to why this was an acceptable system.
I can see as I read that many will use non club sites to avoid all the hassle.

Talking to a site staff member I was told that Non arrivals are now quite prevalent at some sites in the network
Previously I was told it was a rare occurrence so maybe it depends on what type of site it is (ie weekend or holiday type?)

If one knows that one will not be getting back the deposit why would people bother to tell The Caravan Club . . . ? Previously they might have got 72 hours to resell the pitch - now they get none.

Which is what some of us have been saying for years🙄

Well I've waited and tried and I am still at a loss how this new system works. We are flexible and can usually shift a day or two either way but I can't see if dates are fully booked or not. Most frustrating having to keep putting in different dates only to get back "these dates are not available" TELL ME WHAT IS........Please!

Out of decency or is that in short supply in the Club?. I hope they keep note of such members and suspend their ability to make bookings for a period as a warning. In the extreme they could withdraw their membership for persistent offenders. I am sure if it becomes a real problem, which I doubt, the Club has such sanctions at its disposal.

We definitely predicted it on this forum, JV. At that time we were talking of the future and the future is now here.

But not yet, deposits don't come into effect until June 2023. So if such habits are happening now then it is under the old booking system of no deposits. Even more reason to have deposits, at least the Club will get 20 percent of the booking fee or £25 and have the pitch to sell as late availabilty or to passing trade.

I thought any new bookings made now will be subject to a deposit? I'll be booking a site later on tonight for late October and I assume I'll have to pay one?

Obviously the deposit factor is not conclusive proof of no shows but seems a likely scenario.
Why are people already paying deposits for stays booked in the coming weeks?

Well I have missed all the 'fun' in the last two weeks and have not read any of the above posts.
I did check my bookings and there was a great panic when the first thing I saw was no upcoming bookings (it was grayed out) and my next payment is due in May! I have a site booked a week on Friday so why pick on the last booking in May?
But when I clicked on the upcoming booking they were all there (whew) so I don't understand why the next payment isn't due till May? Actually when I refreshed the page the upcoming booking was then green?
I tried a dummy booking, but will be doing one for real fairly soon, and I found it much more cumbersome than before and maybe it's just something new but I don't like it (yet). I found the old booking far easier, why the club couldn't just have added pitch type to that, but it's water under the bridge
I also don't like how you can't see the site name on bookings unless one clicks on view bookings.
well it's here now and I'll have to get used to it.

From what I have tried enter your site name, press search without entering dates, press book site, scroll down to calendar and if no prices showing them dates are not available. I think it is this way ?

Another thing:
I tried to amend the party number on one booking adding one extra adult for the booking a week Friday and if I did that then I would have to pay all the full amount. So naturally I'll wait and either pay on arrival or pay while travelling on the day.

Peedee, That's just not true as many on here, me included, have already paid a deposit on booking a CC site.

I wanted to book Overwater Marina C.L. site for a few days in October. They have an excellent booking system that dovetails with their small adjacent commercial site. They didn't have my dates but supplied me with availability within a couple of days either side of my preferred dates, which if I had flexibility would have been great. It also offered me possible dates on the commercial site just in case those alternatives were to my liking.
So if a small independent site can use a web system that allows this why can't a multimillion pound commercial outfit like the CAMC do likewise?

Well yes it does, quite a bit in my view, you posted:
But not yet, deposits don't come into effect until June 2023. So if such habits are happening now then it is under the old booking system of no deposits.
So as deposits are being taken now (as you agree) it cannot all be due to the old system as you appear to suggest?
Even more reason to have deposits, at least the Club will get 20 percent of the booking fee or £25 and have the pitch to sell as late availabilty or to passing trade
And of course if one cancels before 21 days then the deposit is returned, unless this has changed?

WN, that's a CL we stayed at about 4 years ago, on the way back up north from the Forest of Dean; even then it had that booking system, as I booked it that way. It even has pitch choice within that booking system, whether it is on the CL itself, or on the small adjacent site.
There are other CLs with such a booking system, I can't think of them right now, but remember booking other CLs like that.

No it doesn't the new booking system has only been in 10 days sohow can deposits be the reason people have not been turning up as described by JVB? It is far to early to blame no shows on deposits.
Of course you can get your deposit back if you cancel before 21 days but we were discussing no shows.

I keep hearing once the problems have been ironed out the new system will be fine but the old system worked perfectly and didn't need changing or did the club really pander to the minority who wanted deposits thinking it would make things better! It doesn't work for the other club and didn't the last time this club had deposits so why would it work now? I've never known such bad feeling towards the club over this new system and the hike in prices but the club ( in name only)really need to start listening to the majority for a change.

Your new booking system is appalling!!!To book is an almost impossible task right from the area you look for.I have been a member for a number of years and am seriously considering leaving due to this very backward step.Bring back the old system or your membership will plummet.Your apology is not improving an inadequate system.
