Corona Virus Concerns

Actually, I do think that, on the whole, one of the better features of this particular thread has been that folk have expressed opposing views with respect - some notable exceptions as always - but by and large it's been pretty well mannered. Maybe that's because we have been allowed to stray gently into political comments without being immediately jumped on from above.

Gotta expect to receive what you dish out, DT. 😀😉

True, we've been able to put opposing points of view with very little shouting down and that's let us appreciate the points of view of others.👍🏻

The political comments have been mild, Brue. There's been nothing to compare with the rants of days of yore. Nothing actually grates on me, the viewpoints are sometimes just different from my own. Difference makes the world go around👍🏻

A rant at me? No need to stop. 🤣🤣

Sorry, our house is a very political one, and I sometimes forget that it’s frowned upon on CT. I do try to keep off the individual party stuff though, just occasionally things that are so obvious wind me up. I’ll head off to safer ground now.....the gardening bit!😁

👍 I could have written that myself.😁

I don't watch TV a great deal but sometimes wander into MiLs front room in the morning and she has it on and I've noticed that they dedicate some time to foreign goings on. Unfortunately I can't be more specific except it's likely to be near 11 ish as that's traditional coffee time here.

Back to the virus...last weekend Cheddar Gorge was inundated with visitors from as far afield as Kent etc. Looking at the beach crowds on the local news tonight and hearing the traffic heading to the southwest I'm in agreement with DEBSC about staying in your own area.
Oh I forgot to mention one of our local GPs has the virus.
But I'll leave it at that, stay well.

Coming back to the crux of the thread, I have spoken to a couple of people who I know reasonably well in the village and they have spoken about how the strain and worry is affecting a loved one, one a husband, another a daughter living away and on her own, and I felt so helpless.
I'm generally a happy go lucky, glad to wake up in the morning type of person so don't come across this problem often, although I have close relatives who have had terrible mental health issues, so I'm not unaware of the consequences.
So how are you all coping mentally? Is the lockdown helping or hindering? Is there anything a forum like this can do to help? What tricks do you have for keeping the demons at bay? Best wishes if you are suffering.

I agree Wherenext. Mental health is a serious problem and one which has many many causes and a similar number of remedies. Maybe someone reading these entries should consider starting a thread with a suitable 'cannot be missed' title? As they say, it's good to talk.

I'm not very good with BBC links for CT 😱 but here goes
They've opened up one possibly more of our 3 drive thru McDonalds today apparently HERE. If my link foesnt work try BBC News for Essex.
Our son said one of his friend's, furloughed pilot, was delivering for McDonalds, the one in the news has been open and it's been delivery only. Apparently he cycled to collect the order and mainly delivered to the carpark. One car had come from Surrey....................

There were queues all round a car park in, I think, Derby, when a branch of KFC re-opened! Surprising what some folk miss - me, I'm just desperate to get back to the barbers () to rectify Mrs M's well meaning but, well to be honest, hatchet job!

well that's sick pay and it's legislation gone then. And never mind H&S too.
