you should look why, where and how it is going up before posting Fish:
The rise in the figures is thought to be driven by the virus spreading in care homes and hospitals
As the figures are based on patients ending up in hospital, they actually give a sense of the R-number from around three weeks ago
So could be nothing to do with people queuing in Leeds, or BH or VE celebrations, unless of course one wants to be negative and see gloom and doom everywhere?

During our walks From home over the last 8 weeks It seems as though probably 10% of folk still don’t understand distancing. They don’t seem to be of any particular age group. On our way to our storage yard yesterday we walked passed a primary school and apparently playtime. There were about 15 children playing with 3 adults supervising. Sad to say there didn’t appear to be any distancing, just happy children playing.
If the lockdown ends I’m not sure we won’t see another spike unless people obey the distancing rules

Came across this press piece this morning, relating to Yorkshire residents. Statistics only date up to 18th April, but nevertheless, I found it interesting. Could do with an update now, a month further on.

Just back from cycling to millennium bridge in Newcastle and there were loads more people out today, both on foot and bikes (and cars).
However, 99% of people were practising social distancing and there were lots of cheery "good mornings" exchanged. I feel much better for having been out and I'm quite happy to spend rest of day pottering. I think that most people will be sensible and "stay alert", but appreciate those who still feel vulnerable are right to be cautious about venturing back out just yet.
My boss rang last night to say we won't now be reopening on 1st June. He's pushing it back to start of July so I'm staying furloughed for another month at least. I'm relieved because I wasn't so much dreading going back to work, (where we have everything already set up for social distancing etc) but I was dreading the metro! In another 4 weeks maybe I'll be fit enough to do the whole trip by bike😂

I know what you mean about it's good going out. We took a short 20 minute car trip to Seaham yesterday, quite a few others out but 'queued' nicely 2m apart for fish and chips and the same for a coffee, had them sitting on a bench facing the sea. all the eating places reopening, screens in front of the counter or standing 2 m away and serving takeaways.
When we got back it felt like a fantastic day out and more like a holiday. Cheered us all up no end.
Look at getting an ebike, you'll be amazed at how they change your cycling.

Son phoned this morning, He works in London. Doesn't want to take the tube, and the advice is not to, but next week not only is the congestion charge being reintroduced it is going up! How does this encourage people not to use public transport.

I was just saying to daughter that whilst I can just about get to Quayside on my mountain bike, the thought of cycling from there up to Monument fills me with dread😂.....I'd better start saving though because they're not cheap!
As soon as hubby gets home (he works offshore) I'm going to suggest going out for fish and chips. I haven't checked whether Colemans in South Shields is open but if not, Seaham isn't far either😊

Just to lighten the mood a little the French are, apparently, having a discussion as to what to call COVID 19! The The Académie Française, the guardians of the French language have said it shouldn't be called Le Covid as that indicates the masculin so therefore should be called La Covid. I won't bore you with the full explanation but it's to do with the words that spell out COVID where one of the main words is considered feminine.
The rest of us just get on with our lives without such complication!!!

We did fish and chips last night, a little bit of normality that felt special. Very well organised, and they were pleased to see us. It usually a once a month thing for us anyway, but happy to support a local business 😁

Are any of you watching the Dr John Campbell Youtube videos on COVID 19? Basically he analyses the data from various official sources from both the UK and around the world and adds points of explanation which are easier to understand. To be honest my bike has sat in the shed for the last 8 years or so and I'd forgotten how much I enjoy cycling.
We got the caravan so we could spend time in The Lake District and Scotland climbing and fell walking etc and at some point this year we were thinking of doing a hiking trail (maybe the Rob Roy Way or the Cumbrian Way), but as that isn't going to happen now it has been nice getting out on our bikes.
I'm definitely interested in an ebike though and it would certainly be worth it to avoid getting the metro to work every day!
I may take your advice and open a thread once I've worked out my budget 😊

I've had one just under a month now and have done 432 miles. the longest run was somewhere over 40 miles, as the bike said but 42 the GPS cycle computer said 40.7, I'm going with the biggest! I
It was Washington to Newcastle then along the south bank to the Derwent valley walk to Consett then along the Consett to Sunderland railway path (part of the C2C).
I have to say the bike is fantastic, after that 40 miles it still had 18% battery left but I do tend to use 'eco' mode most of the time saving the other three modes for hills and after when I'm halfway round. Hills just aren't a problem anymore, you still have to pedal and get out of breath on some of the more steeper hills in County Durham but for most of the time it's like having an extra couple of gears and you will make it all the way to the top.

Oh and save some money for a good cycle GPS sat nav, then you can get all (and I mean all) the information about your ride.

Yes, we will use that next time. As bad as things have been/are, the fact that we have so much technology nowadays is making things a whole lot easier in a lot of ways.
Talking of tech, any more cyclists using Strava at all?

I have looked at it and it does have links on the Garmin edge but haven't worked out how to to use it.
Love how the Edge, phone and computer all talk to each other and the route planning is great.

Yes hubby uses it and has Garmin edge, fit bit etc. Daughter uses under armour app. I don't use any......I keep meaning to but I'm just not into apps or even my phone, which I leave behind.
I'm determined to get onto it though as I can see the advantages of these apps. Hubby has viewranger for when we're out hiking but I'm more of an OS map girl😊

One thing (and then back to the topic) my OH likes how I've set up the Edge so that she can automatically live track me when I'm out on my own and there's incident alert as well, so she is happy in case anything happens and I'm happy as I can just go off my planned route if anything interesting appears at any time without worrying I haven't told her.

That sounds really good I didn't know that was possible. I remember being worried when hubby did c2c a few years ago because I didn't hear from him until he was nearly at finish.
I definitely need to get more tech-savvy.....
