That's what our previous car insurer kept saying to us, we tried very patiently to explain and even said we had been in touch with our caravan insurer who also said it is down to the car's insurance to issue the green card.

When we called SAGA to change back to them they were very clear that it was down to the car insurer to issue the green card. On the day we spoke to them, we were informed that as of that day both vehicles would get a green card.

It would appear there is still much confusion with insurance companies.

I will wait to see what SAGA actually send and go from there, they say about 7-10 days so will update when it arrives but as you say much confusion.

I checked Aviva website who insure our tow car. It asked if I would be towing a caravan, but at that time, I wasn’t sure why they wanted to know, as the caravan is insured elsewhere. I applied for green card for car.

when the post arrived a few days later, it contained two green cards from Aviva, one for the car and one for the (unspecified) caravan.

So what now ? should we go or should we stay in the uk this year my heart says go to france because we love it or could we be locked out. I  suppose that wouldn't be a bad thing with the state of british politices at the moment!

As far as third party coverage is concerned, the caravan is covered by the car's insurance, not by an insurance you may have taken out for the caravan. That only covers you for damage to your own caravan and is irrelevant.

Spoke to my car insurance brokers this morning.  They are adamant that only one Green Card is needed but it will contain details of the caravan.  So is the Gov website right or are the brokers?

Our green card arrived today, although we are are not towing the document is covering car + trailer very  vague. I  presume that does not mean a caravan. Chuffing mess all this.

If you have a "mishap" involving caravan whilst being towed, it is the actual car insurance that covers the "mishap". When you then claim for damage, it is on the actual caravan insurance, not car insurance.

The police only want to know if the actual towing vehicle is covered, and will take those details.

If, while being towed, it's the caravan that caused the damage, the police will want to know which third party insurance covers the caravan. If it's a UK outfit it will normally be the car insurance, but they will want confirmation, hence the second Green Card.

A caravan is a trailer, is it not?

I heard earlier that the EU have confirmed, in the event of no deal, the UK will join the list of countries whose residents will not need visas to visit Europe for short stays.

I believe this was all set to go some time back but objections were raised concerning Gib. Now it’s all been smoothed over and become policy.

We'll probably all be in that great caravan site in the sky by the time it becomes relevant based on the current rate of progress( or lack thereof).

Am I among the first to have a ferry booking affected by Brexit? Brittany Ferries have kindly  shuffled their Poole sailings which means I have lost eight hours in France. No big deal but it means I will not be able to have a leisurely drive on day one to my first planned overnight  site.

This was the information sent to me this morning from the CMC:

Following their commitment to guarantee space for the supply of critical goods like medicines in the event of a no-deal Brexit, Brittany Ferries advise that they have had to adjust the timings on some of their sailings. These changes would affect both your outward and inward crossings.

The ferry from Poole-Cherbourg on 2/6/2019 will now be departing at 13.45 (arrives 18.45). I was on the 8.30.

The ferry from Cherbourg-Poole on 28/6/2019 will now depart at 15.30 (arrives 19.00). I was on the 18.30.

Messes up too a plan to overnight at Poole docks before the planned 8.30 crossing from Poole. But the CMC have indicated I can call them to see if I want to switch sailings which I will do but, if there is still space, I might go 2 days earlier as I really wanted to get on the 8.30!

Changed my booking this morning to the 21.15 overnight crossing the day before so that gives me a bit extra driving time next day. Offered for the inconvenience a 4-berth cabin at half price but chose 2 complimentary lounge seats because we don't sleep well on ferries.

As the first sentence in the opening thread is now utterly irrelevant may I suggest this thread be locked now and consigned to history  - and that we all start again after the withdrawal deal which may one day be struck, or after October 31st. , or after the next extension. For now, this summer's travel plans can just stay the same. Happy hols.

I'm off as planned in two weeks time, same EU plates with no 'GB' stickers needed, insurance company has lost/no record of my asking for a green card but doesn't matter now, dog does not need to visit UK vet before I go for a health certificate, in fact just the same as last year.

It was a bit of a fuss for us travelling with not knowing at the start of the season, now its those that have delayed their travel towards the end of the season that will be affected maybe.
