Speeding on site
Hi All
i don’t normally post here but would like to no if speeding is a problem on lots of sites
We have had a near miss this week between my husband and a car speeding on site if my daughter had been in front of him instead of following him she would have been run over
My husband approached said speeder whose attitude and answer was I don’t care what the limit is
Is there anything the wardens can do as they don’t seem to bothered except to tell me I can’t approach these people and have a word
Please advise as we are here for the season
Thanks Marie

If it was that bad and the speeder had replied like that to me I would have certainly reported it to the warden with their reg number. If they don't know about it they can't act on it. Yes it's your word against theirs but if enough report the same car something could be done.

Sorry to hear about your experience Marie. I read in the club mag that the Club were looking at speeding on sites. I would like to know what they are going to implement or whether they are trying different approaches. Certainly, as a start, a number plate could be taken and noted for reference.

We did report it but the wardens say there isn’t anything they can do but we should keep track of reg numbers of those speeding but to be honest I don’t want to be site police just want people to observe the 5mph limit

Sorry what do you mean as I have said not used this forum before is speeding a bad subject 😬

Thinking of asking to move pitch somewhere out the way a bit rather then on the main stretch of the site

T&M, I believe you should notify the club's Sites Dept at head office to both report what happened with the speeder and tell them of the warden's response.

Last week at North York’s Moors I was stood talking to the warden when a red Toyota Argo which was with a motor home set off from the pitch and within 200mts had changed into 3rd gear, this was closely followed by a Citroen C5 estate complete with caravan passed our van 3 times at a speed well in excess of 5mph all this when the site still had snow and ice on the roadway. I would love to have had this type of people with me when I’ve had to slide kiddies into a mortuary fridge as I have had to do too many times when I worked as a paramedic because of someone speeding. Come on people the site roads don’t cover a massive distance so while I appreciate 5mph appears slow you’re not doing it for long and I be honest after some of the speeds I’ve seen over the years I would be happy seeing them doing 10mph as that would be an improvement.

I thought is was just me being picky but obviously not
Just had a guy now go past the van the wrong way on a one way bit go through a no entry sign all while doing about 25mph
Makes me so angry 😡

Don’t let it spoil your break, T&M.
The warden should be prepared to act but he’s obviously not around at this time of the evening. If you intend contacting the club, I would keep some notes so that you can make a detailed and factual report.

I must admit that I have not witnessed a lot of speeding in site but we do tend to go mid week away from the hussle and bussle of weekends and Bank Holidays. I suppose there are a couple of things you could do. Firstly, rather than wardens concentration on parking your unit to the peg mention the correct speed as you book in,perhaps even handing out a printed reminder as to why the correct speed is important. (I don't recall this ever being mentioned when booking in) The alternative is something which I suspect none of us want but sleeping policemen at 50 metre intervals would concentrate the mind?

T&M
I go along with every word Tinwheeler has said above. Please report the incident, both the driver and warden as attitudes were wrong.
Last year I witnessed some of the worst examples of speeding on a site I have been on. In September at the Cirencester site I witnessed the worst speeding I had ever come across. I made notes and sent my complaint with my details to HO. One week after returning home I received a telephone call from a lady at HO to discuss my complaint. Some 40 minutes later, after a very in depth discussion on both our thoughts, I left her with some ideas to try and alleviate the problem. One in particular she was very taken with. Chicanes on straight stretches of site roads. This seems to work on many road in France when entering the villages.
She did say the club were looking at the situation with a lot of concern, although no signs of any changes yet but in an earlier post Brue mentions there was something in The Magazine about it. Maybe things are about to change, let's hope so. And please nobody write the expected reply. Let's just hope.
So T&M and others if you don't act nothing will get done.
Just do it. Start with the wardens, report it to them and back it up with a letter of complaint to HO.

Waste of time complaining, you will not educate idiots,2x2 back of the head and it might just register.

Since going Auto ,i had noticed the speed increase over 5mph when on tickover and even on a falling grade would "change,up"but have been on a "learning curve" and by useing the "sport" mode can lock it into 1st gear and maintain 5mph, according to the sat nav,,and at times has resulted in a queue behind us when traversing the site to and from our pitch

Thankyou for that, BM.
I don’t think you’ll find one single person disagreed with the content of your other post. Unfortunately, you didn’t seem to take the time to think about the way it read to other people - your fellow members - and it irritated some for that reason. It was nothing at all to do with the sentiment.

We had the same at Cirencester last week the warden admitted it was a problem, but unless the actually see them there is not a lot that can be done, when i suggested that if reported to them with the rev no a black board outside the office displaying the reg number with a note to say that it had been reported to them, it gave them an idea that may help

If members do report speeding to the wardens and they can't/won't do anything about it then it should be reported to HQ All near misses should definitely be reported. Then should there be a serious accident the powers that be cannot say they weren't warned and told of the problems. On their head be it. It really is time some culprits were given a serious warning. Preferably before a child is seriously injured.

5mph, according to the sat nav,,and at times has resulted in a queue behind us when traversing the site
I have found the same at 4mph.
I have an admission to make though! I think it as a few years back at Lady Margarets Park when the chap behind was swerving side to side on my bumper as if looking to pass. He turned off to use a longer parallel route to overtake. The admission is that I increased my speed to 8mph such that he could not succeed and had to follow me the rest of the way. Sorry and please don't report me
When arriving on site I undo my seat belt, relax and travel round on tickoverParticularly on a nice summer's day (remember those) I like to smile to folks as I slowly go past.
