I realise all vehicles are different but the past four Ducatos ran at about 4mph when ticking over in first gear.....my right foot tends to hover more over the brake pedal whilst trickling around the site...
not a fan of 'circular' site roads but this is the nature of the CC beast, nor having many vehicles pitch hunting (and possibly focussing in the wrong direction....) at the same time...
again, this practise is the result of the 'arrival time' process, so even more care at these times please....

I did talk to the warden on quite a few occasions during the week and sadly I jave to agree with him that while they can judge a speeding vehicle without proper detection equipment they can’t prove anything, therefore they’re unable to say if I get you again you can leave. The way some people drive today is appalling, when we arrived on site I was politely asked not to go over the grass which was ok and I expect everyone else was asked the same but on the Saturday night when the site was covered in snow one idiot in a 4x4 came down at a fair pace and cut the corner having all 4 wheels off the road. So it is with regret that until the club has something like a pop up bollard which shoots up when a sensor is passed over the speed limit leaving the offender 3feet off the road we will never stop them,

While we are all taken up by some irresponsible drivers I must state that for the duration of our stay the wardens were under quite a lot of pressure with thing like the water points freezing, the warden delivered bottled water to each van on site and the difference Joy & Kingsley have made to this once run down site has been exemplary. So speeders or not I really can’t praisethem enough.

It has Jimbo but in both cases the impact was behind the driver who was apparently obeying speed limits and there was no chance of the driver avoiding or being aware before impact.
In the case of the child (too young to be cycling unattended in my opinion) who struck the side of a motorvan (I think it was not a caravan) the same could have easily happened with me on one occasion. A child of 5 or 6 came cycling heel for leather the wrong way around a blind bend. I was doing 4mph and stopped with plenty of room to spare. Unfortunately he did not see me in time and I expected him to hit the front of the car. Fortunately he panicked and fell off, the bike slid under front of the car and he lost a little skin. His parents were sat nearby with friends and one of them rushed to pick him up whilst the other retrieved the bike and gave me a dirty look.

I find it sort of amusing the reasons stated here why people could possibly speed, including site layout, arrival times to name a few. I have spoken to a number of drivers already this last fortnight regarding driving standards, none of those were "looking for the best pitch". (yes while I was out on site K) it seems to get worse every year. To me peoples disregard of others on site is just a continuation of how society is today, a total lack of respect for anyone, think of number one.
There are lots of issues including driving standards that the club are going to address, but the end of the day, just have a bit of respect.
I used to race Harley Davidson drag bikes on the 1/4 mile, that was speeding

Just doing what all us "site workers" do on a daily basis, trying to make sure our members (and non members
) have a safe and enjoyable stay on our sites.JK

A strategically placed football, preferably looking like a small child, on your pitch that is launched into the path of the noticeable 'speeding' driver (its obvious if they are driving above walking pace as they travel faster than pedestrians) often focusses the mind of the ignorant drivers who have full and complete knowledge of the velocity of their motor vehicle.
If addressed by the errant driver a simple 'do you have children?' often prevents future speeding.
You are on holiday, not a timetable.

Awwww JK no need for modesty.... When any individual employee shows unusual commitment and dedication. they should be complimented. ------ An award of "Warden of the year" could be coming your way soon for your commitment. You may even be asked to teach all the other site employees how to enforce the CMC on- site rules.

Like others on here I have no idea of how to stop speeding on sites as all conventional methods seem to have failed, maybe now we need something unconventional.
I have not witnessed to many incidents involving speeding but on the occasions I have, its either been at a weekend or during a 'holiday' period.
At a risk of getting in trouble could it be that at the normal times we are on site there is no big rush from anyone to be going anywhere as we are mainly retired folk.
However at weekends and holidays there are more younger folk on site. These can have children on board who cause distractions to the parents, 1 driving the other looking for a pitch, or simply distracted by going out for the day and excited children on board.
Maybe the site layout could be altered so that there are more 'dead ends' its not something I've noticed on sites in France but then again with the amount of trees they have you can't go fast, can you.
As I said I don't know how to stop it but its the children that we should all be aware of. Walking pace is a good measure to go by.

Unfortunately speeding will only stop when the penalty imposed is expulsion from the site and ultimately the Club. IMO the wardens need to be more proactive and always on the look out for speeding vehicles and act immediately and forcefully.
The speeding allegation does not need to stand up in a court of law as it occurs on a private site but if the warden believes that the speed limit has been exceeded he should give the offender a yellow card, a second yellow card on the same stay should result in removal from the site. These yellow cards need to be logged at head office and a strongly worded email sent out to each transgressor. Any further yellow cards within 2 years should then result in immediate expulsion from the Club.
It does seem to me that the Club is pussy footing around a very serious matter.

Why should speeding on a caravan site be any more dangerous than speeding in any carpark?I often sit in my car whilst the better half does the weekly shop and the standard of driving is ,on the whole ,dangerous.....but no body policies public car parks.at least ,on site,you should be caught and punished (in my opinion!)

I don't use Club sites and never come across speeding on any of the other sites I go to. Is it a problem confined to Club site design, or to certain Club members?
