The same Club, just better...

I am shocked and quite honestly horrified, at the re-branding announcement.
When I heard last Wednesday that there was exciting news, the only thing I hoped, was that WiFi was now going to be free for members. A change of identity of our club is certainly not exciting.
There was absolutely no need to include the name ‘Motorhome’ in the club name. Motorhome owners, many of whom may have owned a caravan previously know very well they are welcome to join the club and visit sites. The existing Logo is always very helpful after a long journey to confirm that you have found the Caravan Club site. The new Logo means nothing. The new name itself sounds too much like that other caravanning organisations name and I am extremely disappointed that a few committee members have considered it their right to change such a long established and well respected Logo and Name without first consulting the membership. It is our club and members should be consulted on anything as drastic and important as the Name and Logo. There is a suggestion that the change is based on Feedback - what feedback?
If there was felt to be a need to include Motorhomes, it could have been achieved with a simple couple of words on a new sign (Motor Homes Welcome), under the main one, without having to change the Club Name and certainly not the Logo.
In view of the extremely large number of negative comments regarding the change that have accumulated, a rethink is urgently required. This is not acceptable.

Hi Ian,
Sorry for the delayed response, must have missed your post.
Whilst I don't have exact numbers, the costs are being met from normal trading expenses. It is affordable and will not affect any of The Club’s plans for investment in sites or club services. Many of the costs are in consumable items such as uniforms, signage and so on which need replacing on an ongoing basis in any case. We have delayed the launch of the sites directory and handbook (which will be distributed this month) for example to make sure that this has the new branding for all of its two year life and so there has been no extra costs incurred.
We expect that the new brand will generate a higher profile and increased interest for the Club which will improve membership recruitment and retention and increase usage of club services so that the Club is even more successful in the future than it is now.
With regards to the abbreviation, we're using CAMC

The new logo - Brown and Biege - Autumnal colours.
Are they the colours likely to attract a new vibrant, younger, diverse membership ?
.. and just to underline the biegeness they added 'since 1907'
Still, there's always hope .. see how the coop/ co-operative after all their unremarkable re-brandings have gone back to the original... err... coop !OR - also how the Royal Mail rebranded as Insignia very quickly went back to Royal Mail
And - I don' - recall being asked for any views or any consulation

Please advise, exactly what consultation took place and when because I am yet to read a post on here that indicates it was written by someone who was actually asked.

I have nothing against the new name but it would have been fairly easy to reduce the costs by adding the letter and badge, if anybody wants one, to the magazine for those who get it.
Frankly it is the logo which I can see no basis for using and seems to be the most consistently disliked one I have ever come across. I get the impression we will not see the members using the logo on their cars, caravans or motorhomes, because they hate it. The thing does not work on any level, it is meaningless, and the choice just baffles me.

It seems a very small proportion of members are against the rebranding judging by the amount of posts in relation to the numbers of members, no way if knowing what people think away from the forum..... apart from asking them via email perhaps or on a survey that is often sent out .... maybe that would be a good idea by the club. Then they would know if it's a good idea. I suspect they will do it at some point
as previously said I think it's a good idea to rebrand.

But just look at the high number of non-regular posters that are so incensed with the change and the expense thereof that they have felt compelled to vent their feeling. I don't see an equal number of people that are happy coming on here to confirm that.

Despite wading through pages and pages of comments, I have yet to see any proper response from the club in answer to the frequently asked question regarding when and how the members were consulted regarding these changes.
As a member for over 42 years with over 600 rallies, 88 Club Sites and numerous CLs under my belt, I would have thought my opinion should have counted for something.
I served on the Members Panel for it's entire duration, but cannot recall any survey or consultation regarding this radical change.
My very faded 42year old red pennant flag will continue to flutter at the front of the van and my original enamel Caravan Club badge will stay on the grill of my car. I will NOT display the new stickers or any other merchandise displaying the new logo.

And there it is!
Just got my latest "Sites Directory and Handbook" and low and behold the ONLY vehicle on the front cover is a Motorhome!
On the whole I have no feelings regarding Motorhomes or their owners, each to their own, but as MY Caravan Club was re branded with the name "Caravan and Motorhome Club" it would have been considerate of the hierarchy to include a caravan somewhere on the cover!
"Upwards and Onwards! is the cry from our leaders, but on the MAIN publication to ALL Members one section of the new branded name is missing from the FRONT COVER!
As a Caravan owner and Caravan Club Member for several years this really does make me feel wanted!!!
There are ways to make big steps like this in the Business world, but a whole lot more thought and consideration to the grass roots Membership would have gone a long way.
I do hope its all worth it.

Perhaps we've got other things to do or don't really give a hoot, John.

Has anyone tried puting the "stickers" on their caraven (trailer or motor) window yet? With many manufacturers having used a brown tint to the plastic for many years I wonder if the logo will actually show at all. It certainly does not show through the ugly kid factory tint glass in my Land Rover.

Just for the record then - I'm happy.
I like the logo and I have no objection to the change of name. I pay my 49 quid a year to have access to club sites an CL sites. For that small fee, I do not expect to be consulted on decisions such as this. I certainly do not wish anyone to resign nor do I see any reason for them to do so. I am happy with club's statement much earlier in this thread regarding the way that this has been financed.
I believe that the club has 800,000 members? If half of those are associate/partners of members, that still gives 400,00. If we assume that all 1600 posts on this thread are from seperate members and that they are all opposed to this change, that still leaves a large proportion of members who do not object (or simply do not care).

I very much doubt it

Thanks Rochelle.
But with respect, if tbe Club management don't have a figure for tbe expenditure, wouldn't that be rather irresponsible?
Similarly, surely there would be a business case for this change, which would include a projected increase in revenue.
Would it be posible to obtain these figures and post them?
Thanks for clarying the abbreviation. I think this needs to be better publicised.

They (being the Club hierarchy) will know if it's all been a good idea if the membership numbers increase, site bookings increase, services sales increase etc.
They don't need a survey to find out what people think, they can look at a computer screen with the monthly accounts and sales figures laid out in front of them.

NTH makes a good point about the 'journey of investment' on the thread about Mildenhall which has closed and is now lost from the network. Not much investment has been committed to this site and quite a few others are at risk of being lost too. That's before I start on the freehold sites that they've promoted for development
I joined the club for the site network and the insurance. Not the name or the branding and definitely not for the suggestions of what I can do on my hols. Can we please see some commitment from the club towards maintaining and improving the site and CL network?

Changing the brand was a totally unnecessary exercise which no doubt will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and this coming just a short time after spending big money on changing the colour of the signage at sites - again an unnecessary expenditure which just made the signs more difficult to read! The money spent could have been better used in updating some sites and stabilising the site fees for a year or two perhaps. There seems to be people at the head of our Club, perhaps not even caravanners, who continually want to be interfering and making changes perhaps to try and justify their positions and salaries. I think an injection of people at the top who would be more inclined to efficiency and practicality would benefit our Club rather than a change of the brand.
My sites handbook has not yet arrived so I cannot comment on it other than to say that I could have put it to good use many weeks ago.

Browsing the Caravan and Motorhome Club Website I looked at 'Our Guide To Club Together'. Is this the new vibrant image welcoming young members?
