I love our Albertine and also our ornamental hop. Although the hop doesn't seem to be doing so well at the moment. We are forecast thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and evening. Some rain would be so very welcome for  the  garden and also our water buts.

I have a couple of Albertines, one rescued from a pot! Possibly the loveliest scented Rose there is in my opinion, but heck, they don't half grow! The hop for the chop is an ordinary one, just too much growth to cope with, and I can never seem to get drying the fruits right for decor! Have a golden hop, much nicer, that will be staying!laughing

    Hi TG

As you know we changed back to a caravan last year and have not regretted it. We got a good deal when we traded the MH in for a new CVan. We also got a new to us tow car. So far we have had many weekends and trips away and have found it no problem it is a bit longer setting up but not too much and once set up we have found we have a lot more space and its great having a comfey car again to get about in once we are on site and we no longer need to worry about setting up the A-Frame to tow a car so a bit less hassle. We are away just now and this is our longest trip so far we are 7 nights in to a 17 night trip and its great having the extra space. If I had to offer one bit of advice it would be get a motor mover as we couldnt do without it now we use it mostly to get the van in the drive and occasionally when on site if the pitch is tight. What type of car and van did you go for.

It is a nice looking car so is your one.

I'm not car person, a wheel at each corner, 1 to steer with and brakes that work are about my requirements 😂😂.

I've always rather liked Volvos especially there safety record. Our son suggested the XC40 to his dad as several folks he knows have purchased and he liked the ride. We called in the Volvo garage after a visit to Homebase as it's opposite. What put me off most was black roof lining and black interior, felt very claustrophobic and closed in. Quite a high entry step up and then step down to car floor, we take my 88 year old mum out and not so easy for her,  thus possibly us in years to come 😉. Just the feel of it generally, himself rather liked it, but we were both shocked at the starting price - hadn't explored any further and the snotty way we were informed there was a 6 month wait for one.

We live in the city and motorhome rather than caravan, so rather chunky for our needs, plus our present car from new only has 80,000 miles in 14 years so price seemed very steep compared to mileage too!

    Horses for courses 😉.

Tammygirl how exciting, what did you get? I expect there's a decent MH for sale very soon in Aberdeen 😂😂. More happy holidays 😃

I'm not going to suggest MH looking here again for months. One shock at a time LOL.

Milliehull are you still expecting storms? The forecasters have changed their minds for us! I hope its not too dramatic with very heavy rain to flatten the combine crops - its too late to swell the grain now 😔. Our garden 'grass' is very piebald. Green and brown most strange as too why apart from a large tree who's roots must be taking up moisture. Example photo attached, hopefully 😉

Beautiful morning, very fresh feel, must go into town and do bits. Hair appointment this afternoon.

I'm sure you haven't CY. We've only ever motorhome.  Neither of us fancy towing. Advantages/disadvantages to each. 😃

It depends on what you want, when we had caravans before we thought we would give the "dark side" at try ,  10yrs with motor caravans (two)and getting older,  thought about towing a car, as it was getting more difficult to get to places and park up in the UK ,decided we could have more space for length of vehicle, and go almost anywhere by seeing the "light " again, and  have not missed the "dark side " wink

Ps our friend tow a car but now with several grand sprogs, need a bigger "small"car and do not want to run three vehicles so could very soon also come into the "light" againsurprised

Bright morning here, forecasters seem to have changed their minds and no rain due here today.

Porridge overflowed in microwave this morning so thats another fine mess i've got myself into.surprised

Good luck with car and caravan TG.

Car repair/service etc., seems to be on schedule for pick up today so will get a bus into Lowestoft and wander around the harbour and seafront.

Still had a very nice meal again at the Fighting Cocks pub just near Southlands site (usual when over there)

Didn't see that one but did see this LINK

Isn't it fascinating what is revealed by nature?

In 1976 it is alleged that the ruins of South Hanningfield could be seen. I was young and blasé about such things so didn't visit. That village was only flooded to create the resovior in the late 1950s so heartbreaking for many 😢. Because we are used to water shortages our water authority have invested much and at present it seems to be paying off 😃. Hopefully folk will be sensible with a precious resource.

Beth Chatton Garden is well worth a visit if you're in Essex,  shows just what can be achieved in low rainfall areas, a dry garden of beautiful colour and texture. We never water our garden only pots and top up the pond if necessary and most years that's via water butts.

Brue and Bakers2, I saw both of those on the news recently.  Quite fascinating isn't it. It must be an archaeologist's and land historian's dream.  In 1976 Rutland Water dried up so much we could see the remains of the flooded village.  I didn't go and look as I found it too sad.  Yes our weather forecast seems to have changed from thunderstorm to light rain showers this evening - anything would be welcome for the garden. You have a lovely garden Bakers2.  Our 'lawn' is much browner than yours but still piebald.  I think it must be because we have a large rowan tree at the bottom of the garden which must be taking all the moisture.

JVB. I am surprised that the Solent crossing is only the 15th most expensive crossing in the world. We have always thought it was THE most expensive.surprised

I've just got back from dropping OH and granddaughters at the Wightlink car ferry as they are off for a days alpaca trekking. Didn't stay long enough to hear any sharp intakes of breath at the fare.

Hi Francis, we got a good deal too for the MH tried several dealers but got the best offer from the one we originally bought the MH from. We are having a motor mover fitted as we had one on our previous caravans. OH has decided that this time he wants an auto one rather than manual though laughing

The car we have gone for is a Ford Kuga and the caravan is a Coachman 450/2 Hillander its a dealer 'special' comes with everything on it like ATC, 80w SP, Sargent alarm the upholstery is from the VIP range so pretty high specs at a very good price smilesmile

Really looking forward to having the extra space and as you said a comfy car to get around in when away.

Loved having the MH but doing the things that some do, who have MH's just don't appeal to us. We like to stay on a campsite not aires or supermarket car parks wink

Tammygirl we loved the Kuga auto our friends have in NZ. I'm sure you've made a good choice. The only Kugas likely for us were diesel and we don't tow or do sufficient mileage to warrant it. Certainly seems to be a good tow car. Enjoy. I assume you're collecting 1 Aug too? Ours is ready Monday but as you can't transfer the tax these days we opted to wait.

Off in half an hour to take Mrs WN and MIL to Manchester airport and then it's a week of hedonism (they'll also be enjoying themselves hopefully).

They would pick the worst day to travel as the main holidays start today and there will be shedloads of traffic heading into North Wales for my return journey. It will like the old days when I was working and had to use all of the back routes to wriggle my way home.

    Tammy Girl

Good luck with the change although I have to say I am surprised, as I thought you were a dyed in the wool motorhomer!!! How will the change affect your trips abroad if indeed it does?

We often consider the future in terms of our hobby but one thing we are both agreed on is that we don't want to go back to a caravan as the reasons for us changing to motorhome still exist  today. I think in the fairly immediate future we have three courses of possible outcomes. Firstly we keep the current van until we eventually give up! We downsize to something like a PVC. At long last I have got Margaret to at least think about that possibility as it would give us more freedom. The third option is that we just give up all together.frown
