Sorry to read of others colds, thankfully we have been able to avoid any so far. I hope that all will soon be over their colds well before Christmas. It has been fine for most of the day, with just a little light rain late in the afternoon. We took advantage of the dry start to get gear loaded into the caravan leaving little to do before we set off.
@heddlo it was showing flooded roads between Malton and Stamford Bridge tonight on the North Yorkshire Weather Updates FB page. Hope that it gets no worse in your village and that the Christmas switch on can go ahead.
Their FB pages have some great videos of Steam Trains and aircraft as well as lots of weather and traffic information from not just Yorkshire but also around the country.

@heddlo I'm very sorry to read about your hip and the visit to A&E. At least it looks like there is no major damage thank goodness, hope you recover soon and no longer have to be on crutches.
@DavidKlyne Sounds like Margaret is doing very well, a nice photo too along the Danube.
Sounds like that nasty cold is still doing the rounds. We've both got rid of it thank goodness, best wishes to those who are suffering at the moment.

@heddlo your trip to A&E sounds dreadful, so late to get back home. Hope you recover quickly.
Hope all those with colds and bugs get better soon.
On Thursday we went to Exeter as OH likes the Christmas market. He struggled a bit to walk around but we had many breaks so ok. The market is held on the cathedral grounds and they put up a big plastic conservatory structure, with a bar and long benches and tables and in the square outside this are food stalls representing food from all over the world. It’s always busy and such a good idea. We did a bit of shopping in the town, it was surprisingly mild, I spent most of the afternoon without a coat on.Yesterday we went to granddaughters, her motorised wheel attachment to her wheelchair, which gives her some independence outside, had broken. OH, who the grandkids call, ‘The legend that can mend anything’ took all his tools over. Finally after some time he managed it. With the proviso that he didn’t think it would go on for too much longer! It was top of the range but second hand, a lucky spot some time ago, but new of that type cost £1,000s so a new one won’t be top of the range, but they are still very expensive. OH is now on the look out, he’s also good at that. Think we will be helping out with the purchase. She made us smile, hers broke ages ago so has never reversed, she said, ‘oh I’ll be able to go backwards’. She was making a roast for her housemate and a friend. When she was at uni she used to phone me and ask about making the cheese sauce for cauliflower cheese and advice on crispy potatoes etc. While in the kitchen with her yesterday I questioned whether the cheese sauce she was stirring would thicken enough, I got a ‘look’ from her in response. Well the apprentice has learnt from the master because it turned out better than mine, my work here is done.
Busy day today, we get half price electric for a few hours on a Sunday so it’s all systems go. The washing machine, airer, dehumidifier and chargers are all on. We are like the blue furry people in the advert on Sundays. I fed the birds this morning and had a quick check of the garden, so many shoots now coming through the ground and the honeysuckle and clematis have green shoots all over them. Roll on spring.

Another glorious day in-between some
very days. Yesterday the low level rain was snow over the tops which made today just fantastic.
The view this morning.
And Buttermere this afternoon.
11 -
@Cornersteady beautiful pictures. We were in Buttermere last November and had the same amazing weather (just no snow). Enjoy your break.
1 -
Fabulous pictures @Cornersteady We head North soon, hoping to see views like yours.
Exeter Christmas market sounds lovely, definitely in my top 3 Cathedrals, Crowner John lives just round the corner😁 Glad you are ok @DEBSC and well done to your GD.
1 -
Grand photos, @Cornersteady we could see the snow on the both the Lakeland Fells and the Howgills as we drove out to the M6 this morning.
Your granddaughter is a real trooper @DEBSC and by the sounds of it you are feeling better too.
Because of the bad weather forecast for Monday we made a late decision to set off on our winter trip a day earlier than planned. We had a cold but bright start to the day and it has stayed fine until 30 mins ago, when it started to rain. The motorways were quite busy but there were no major holdups and we arrived at our chosen site just after 1:00 as planned. The site is quite empty, just 14 units tonight, so we had a good choice of pitch. After setting up we had a walk through the adjacent forest, while the van heated up, and came across this new sculpture. I don't think Flyte was too keen on it!!
Back at the site this different unit had arrived when we were out. I certainly wouldn't fancy paying its fuel bill!

Coo…..interesting. I hope it’s got a decent set of steps up. Nice photo of Mrs Nellie, and Flyte, still tugging!

We did a bit of channel surfing last night in an attempt to find something of interest to us………Youtube delivered, a Jumbo Visma documentary around 2025 TdeF, followed by part of the whole of the 2003 race. Crikey, what a nest of dopers this is. No helmets either, it’s a completely different cycling World. Probably watch more tonight…….

One of our Christmas cactus tge eldest at 40+ years, prefers to show off to the neighbours 🤣. The youngest happy to just be.
Best wishes to all recovering/suffering.
I'll try to write more later, just back from yomp over the fields, so dog and I damp. Needed that to prepare me for our trip into Peterborough to hit the toy shop 🫣🤞
Oh they've loaded differently . An upgrade to the site? I'll fiddle later - shopping calls me 🤐

@Bakers2 Lovely Christmas Cactus, the photos come up by clicking the links.

@DavidKlyne yes, that's why I left them. Not had this before!
Back to double letters at tge start of a line and capitals for first 2 words. Yeah he's ready.....

I like Christmas Cacti as well, yours are lovely @Bakers2
Pale pink, a 25 year old plant, one of my ex bosses gave me a cutting off his office plant.
Coral pink, just budding up, this flowers a bit later. Much younger plant, I think this is about 5 years old.
Note the selection of potty’s🤭 I like them as plant pot holders🤣 Both are very old.
5 -
Well how contrary!
@Takethedogalong beautiful, love the pots. Good for larger plant pots. Thanks for the idea.
VERY successful shopping day 😀. Into the city, easy to park. To the toy shop.... 3 for 2 on everything. Remote control truck - grandson been talking about, but none of us saw which he was talking about back in September in there! Fingers crossed this fits the bill.
Half price 🫣. Chose something for youngest grandson, that looks good, again half price. And not what's already in the toy box
So added the building blocks to get 3 for 2. Result.
Back to the carpark, delighted to find charge just £2.50 😀.
ThThen headed to Dobbies to use vouchers, more success, plus lunch! Back into the car and over the roundabout to the shopping centre. Again everything we wanted purchased. Including an M&S sandwich for tea 🤣 along with some food bits for Christmas.
The last week or so has been rather busy, 2 village light switch-on's. Both very well attended. Trip to Thursford, fantastic show, Christmas lunch out with WI. Plus all the usual run of the mill stuff.
It's a bit early for me, I like Christmas to start nearer 25th decoration wise and hype wise 🤐. That said our neighbours, 16 houses in the cul de sac, are getting their houses festive. I fear we'll be the bar humbug ones this year 🫣. Lights are all in the garage reachable - issue new kitchen sitting in one half of the garage. The side where the electric leads need to go through the window..... There's room, if you're slim and nimble to get from the socket to the window - may need to find a youngster to do the task......
It's been a very dull wet day, not that it effected our shopping, it was mizzling on the way to the toy shop from the car park, but dry on our walk back. Only damp on transferring at both further stop offs. I'm hoping for more of yesterday's weather, gloriously bright, sunny but cold, especially for Friday when garden help is doing the hawthorn hedge. I've remembered to buy some bare rooted plants to put in the gaps 😲. They're a bit vicious, but healthy 🤣. They almost touch the garage ceiling from the work bench! The wind is currently battering the front of our house.....

Margaret carried out her threat of going into Central Milton Keynes today on her own. I did persuade her to let me book a taxi into CMK which she accepted but she did catch the bus back. She did say it was very busy but I did remind her that it was December!!!
David

@DavidKlyne that's fantastic news. Well done Margaret. Now for her confidence to develop to try driving again. Are you tempted to try buses yourself now?

Another very wet day but had a good day by visiting Rheged and seeing a film called the Choral which I highly recommend. Excellent cafe and cheap prices for the cinema, and some very interesting shops. Plenty of parking for MHs too though not overnight.
2 -
@Bakers2 enjoyed seeing the Monster truck and toys. It took me back to buying for our grandsons years ago, I got quite nostalgic. These days, so far requests have been, Grandson 1 - a stand for his iPad and Grandson 2 - a large bag of protein powder (that was expensive!). Nothing like they used to want, but it made me laugh! Loved your Christmas cactus, really beautiful and @Takethedogalong yours too. I have never got them to do well so I must be doing something wrong.
@DavidKlyne well done to Margaret. I hope it was worth the trip. I remember Milton Keynes at Christmas when we lived in Bedford, it was pretty horrific then so I imagine things are worse now!
2 -
Pleased to read that Margaret has the confidence to go around the shops in MK today and that she used the bus to get home, such progress @DavidKlyne
Lovely photos of your Winter Cactus @Bakers2 and @Takethedogalong That large M/H is a 1983 6ltr Mercades1222F
Looking at our local, home, website we certainly did the right thing coming down here yesterday as there were flooded roads on our way out of time, causing long tailbacks. It must have rain a huge amount through the night and early morning. We have periods of rain here too, but not prolonged or heavy, so we were able to get out for our walks, from the van, without getting very wet. There has been quite an influx of units today, mainly M/Hs, which now outnumber caravans about 2 to 1.
1 -
@heddlo glad my photo brought back good memories. I had to laugh at your grandson's requests. That protein powder is silly money 🫣
With regard to cactus, I bet you molly coddle them. Mine thrive on neglect. They've lived in our south facing conservatory for 36 years prior to moving here. Originally a single glazed one, so hot in sun - but put outside in the summer, possibly moved indoors if it was really cold ocassionally. They stayed in the double glazed one all year unless they were out for the summer which started earlier than when single glazed. Here we lack space for plants and they've not been out for the last couple of years. Rarely watered, but then a good drink. Reporting always brings on the guilt 🫣 - there's no soil 🤣

Thanks @milliehull and others. Really soory that my posts are a bit sparse at the moment - just so busy and tired.... and nursing a cold too, which doesn't help. The GP has given me antibiotics, which hopefully with the persisent cough and chesty infection. I could do without this at the moment!!.
Glad to hear Margaret is venturing out @DavidKlyne. Glad you enjoyed 'The Choral' @Cornersteady - everyone tells me how good it is - it's on my list tosee after Christmas...
David
2 -
@DSB sorry to hear you are struggling with cold and chest infection. Hope the antibiotics work quickly for you and you can get some rest soon. Also I hope Carol is doing well now.
@Bakers2 I have decided to try another cactus next time we go to the garden centre. I did see some pretty ones there last week. I will use your helpful advice and ignore it! 🤞🏻🤣
1 -
@nelliethehooker OH said it looked like a Man, overland expedition vehicles, often custom built👍
My Xmas cacti thrive on neglect🤭 they get to the point where they sort of shrivel and go limp, then I water them. They only get a short period of being on show, get shoved back on a shelf somewhere until next year.
@Cornersteady we saw The Choral a few weeks ago, excellent film, great cast list, well written, funny as well, but sad.
I have a new little toy…….a small knitting machine. Gave it a whirl, literally, yesterday, and in return now have a nice hat, I bought it to quickly knit up wool I am not that fond of, and won’t enjoy hand knitting. They wool is stuff given to me, and too nice to waste, I do use it for gloves and small things, but it just keeps arriving. Our knitting/crochet group has decided that the buying of wool is in itself a separate hobby🤣 We have swop sessions every so often.
Just needs a pom pom🧶🧶OH seems interested in it as he has an orange padded coat. Took me 15 minutes. As opposed to a full day🤣
If anyone is interested, there’s a two part programme on Channel 4 tonight and tomorrow at 9pm about the cutting down, and subsequent investigation, of the Sycamore Gap Tree on Hadrian’s Wall.4 -
@heddlo the advice seems similar from @Takethedogalong regarding cactus. Don't be alarmed if your purchase drops it's buds once home. They dislike movement once the buds are formed. 🤞

Well we managed to join the merry band of snufflers and snifflers these last few days. I blame it all on my visit to town last week when nobody seemed to have been trained in the art of handkerchief usage. I'm over it virtually but Mrs.Wn suffering these last 2 days. It also gives her neuralgia so the poor lass has much to contend with. There's an awful lot of it about in the village as well.
As a consequence we cancelled our short trip away to meet up with the Nellies. Wouldn't have been fair on them.
I was tasked with taking a still as I write cold free MiL to her physio appointment yesterday. OH usually accompanies her. We all agreed that there isn't much more the physio can do for her so that was her last visit. She presented him with a little present of tot of whisky and a small glass and a thank you card for all his patience and efforts. She's kind like that.
Looks like myself will be taking her to her Chiropodist appointment tomorrow.
Been a lovely sunny winters day today. Did a bit of food shopping and then general tidying of the garden whilst it was warm.
Hope others recover soon.
Love the bobbleless hat @Takethedogalong

@Wherenext at least I can’t be blamed for emailing you my cold🤣 I am still snuffling and coughing here, worse than when I had COVID, although luckily not as exhausted. Your MiL must be as Teflon coated as my OH, he’s thankfully fine. Everyone has got cold round here, I think mine is either from pharmacy or dentists, two high risk waiting areas😱 I stand outside pharmacy usually, but it was pouring down last week.
Second hat done, another trial run, not as successful this time, I think the wool was too fine. It’s got a home though, and a pom pom! Aran/worsted is the way forward it seems.
Deep joy on finding all sorts of free cycling videos on YouTube. Currently watching Brad’s 2012 triumph. That’s our viewing sorted for over Winter.
Nice colours, but stitches a bit uneven………I have a pattern for an Xmas wreath to try at some point.

Like the bobble hat @Takethedogalong but the orange one should have paw print on it to match those associated with Max from the FB page "Max Out in the Lake District" !🤔 Hope you are soon over your cold also everyone else too who are suffering. This is a link, if it works, to a YouTube video of the Merc on site , the base vehicles are used for Fire-engines - Expeditionsmobil - Mercedes Benz 1222 -Fahrzeugvorstellung Basisfahrzeug über 7,5t. Tell.
It is a shame that you were unable to come away for our meet up @Wherenext but there will be other times, all being wel!. Best wishes to your OH for a speedy recovery.
It has been a fine sunny day, and dry up to an hour ago when we had a short rain shower. We drove over to Cheshire Oaks, just for a look around, and although I found nothing that I needed OH came away with a bargain, so not a wasted journey.

Unfortunately OH has also come down with the same bug as me and is in a bad way, almost lost her voice. We are both coughing and sniffing and sneezing all the time, and when OH coughs the pains in her legs get worse, so we are both in a bad way, but trying to carry on as usual when required, with lots of resting inbetween.
Our new patio door is now in place and looks very good, still some minor stuff to be done, joiners came back again today but it is too wet outside to apply the last of the silicone, so they will wait till they get a replacement handle set, something was damaged on the one fitted, and come back to finish off.
We have some coupons to use at Lidl that expire today, so we will visit on our way down to DD’s house, she needs us to look after the boys this evening and on Friday evening as well as our usual 2 afternoons. Then on Saturday we have a craft fair, hopefully will have stopped coughing by then

@KjellNN wishing you and your OH better. Do try to do only the real essentials until you're feeling more yourself. These bugs are knocking folk for six. Might be best to stay in the same temperature - I've found it helps a lot with the coughing. 🤞not suffering at present, but have found in beneficial in the past.
FFreezing Fog here first thing, but beautifully sunny now - no breeze. Peaceful dog walk, admin calls and Christmas card writing. Then grandson collection. Been informed, this morning, Santa visits their village tonight, can he be home before 6pm........ So whirlwind once we're back indoors!
1 -
Took MiL to the chiropodist today as OH still not fully recovered. When I collected her she told me that he had taken her blood pressure. I naturally asked why as he was supposed to be cutting her nails.
She said he had been to a care home that morning as normal. Staff were nowhere around so he just proceeded to Mrs.Jones' room. She was ready for him, lying on her bed so he took her socks off. It was then that he found out she had died. A member of staff burst into the room and apologised for not letting him know. 😮
So he was making sure MiL had a pulse before proceeding.😁
