II'm glad to read Ros is back to her normal self. @richardandros what a silly question about a lady's hairdresser appointment 🫣🤣. How many years have you been a husband???
@DEBSC I do hope you can get your earwax problem sorted. The suggestion by @richardandros sounds worth pursuing.
FFrost This morning but glorious day. Out with folks from 'our close' for a meal tonight in the village. I've just collected my raffle prize from the MAGPAS light switch on. I'm not usually lucky in raffles but that's a prize from each of the 2 village light switch ons 😀. Was also asked if I was related to our eldest grandson, who has won a prize. I won chocolate biscuits he won flowery notebooks, so I'll do a swap.
JJust Having lunch and a break from putting up Christmas decorations very slowly....

@DEBSC OH often has a problem with ear wax, and when I get fed up with shouting he gets an appointment with our local NHS group. It’s a local group that offers out of-hours GP services and other things not now covered by GP surgeries - i.e. maybe another method of ear wax removal. It’s called Nimbuscare in York and is owned by all the practices in the city and a wider footprint, hence us! Probably not as far as Devon 😀, but I wonder if there is something similar near to you perhaps? They have always been pretty good for the ear treatment, it still costs £50 but they have always been good, so he has been lucky. I assume you have tried the softening with warm olive oil prior to the sucking out process? Good luck next week.
We have had an exhausting morning cooking a Vegetarian Wellington, this was a trial run to see how it worked as the list of ingredients and method did look a bit daunting but I thought it can’t be that difficult- it was! Our Daughter-in-law and granddaughter are vegetarian, Kate always has been but granddaughter only the last couple of years. I usually take the easy way out and get something from M&S, but thought I’d make the effort this year and make something as they are visiting us here for a few days from 28th December (2 Christmases for us). We shall eat it for dinner tonight and see if all the effort was worthwhile before we decide whether to bother again in a week or two!
Haven’t even thought about any Christmas decorations yet!

Today started sunny, but has rapidly deteriorated and we now have the heavy rain, as per the forecast. Wind getting up too.
We are both still coughing frequently, we have some cough mixture and things to suck, which help a little, but it is dragging on, as is OH’s sciatica.
Today we are battling on with making the curtains for Nathan’s bedroom. Work on them stopped when I fell and broke my ribs last December, so they are very delayed! It is a huge window, the room was the kitchen in the original house, so a lot of fabric to handle.
We are now at the stage of attaching the curtain tape, so the end is in sight, and the loose linings are already finished. Before the hem is done we will take them down to DD to hang up to check exactly how long she wants them, then they can be finished at her house as she does have her own machine. Will do a double hem so she has some spare fabric should they shrink when cleaned, they are cotton, and as the background colour is a creamy white, they will need cleaned off and on.
Tomorrow is OH’s birthday, so we are invited to dinner with DD and family, and the in-laws, I believe she is doing roast beef with all the trimmings, looking forward to that. On Monday we have the dentist, but I also need to pick up DD after she has delivered her car for its first service as the dealership is some distance away. Then she needs to borrow one of our cars as the garage have said there are several software updates to be done and they will need to keep it for a couple of days. Not sure why it will take so long. Think we will take both our cars there tomorrow and leave one with her as Monday is already going to be busy.
I would have thought that she could get the garage to do a pick up and drop off, she says they did not offer it, but she was rather late in booking, so maybe it was not available.

@heddlo you're very brave to tackle the veggie Wellington. We watched the programme about M&S Christmas. Their beef Wellington is £195 this year 🫣..but the work that went into it.....
@KjellNN I really hope you and your OH feel right soon. Birthday greetings to OH for tomorrow.
Snuck a few minutes on here, as I've almost finished the decorations. We don't do very much, but they seem to take an age. I think we'll be the bar humbug of our close outdoor light wise - we do have a good show in the close, but we have a kitchen in the garage where the lights need to go out the window. I need an agile person to get the lights from the switch over to the window and out........ Luckily the otherwise is usable but useless from the light prospective... I have the pleasure of putting away the Christmas Dec's and emptying the kitchen/dining cupboards for the refit starting on the 5th..... Good job the savings on the units was worth the disruption 🫣
We've just had, what I could see if it, a fabulous sunset with beautiful colours. Not quite sure of the position of the setting sun at this time of year but it was silhouetting the church beautifully, which is due south from us!

@DEBSC we have a few 'private' people that do ear syringing around here. I havent used them but SIL, who has trouble with his ears, has used one in particularly (ex NHS nurse) and says she is excellent. It might be worth googling to see if there are any in your area
Our SIL is vegan. Luckily we are going to theirs for Christmas day and he is doing the cooking.
@KjellNN happy birthday to your OH. I hope you both feel better soon. This cold seems to hang around for a while.
We have had a lovely festive afternoon taking our 2 great grandsons (with their mummy and daddy) to see Father Christmas. Youngest at 4 months was a bit bewildered by it all! However eldest was very excited and loved it, as did we. Such a special experience.

Thanks for the ear advice, yes I did try all other options before Specsavers but no real choice here. And I’ve been putting Otex, as recommended by the pharmacist, and olive oil in once a day each for 4 weeks now. Seems nothing will shift it.
I purchased a carpet shampooer yesterday as the lounge carpet was a bit grubby by the door, despite always taking our shoes off indoors. Well the colour of the dirty water shamed me. So then I did the white carpet in our bedroom (yes a silly colour choice that I’ve come to regret) that didn’t even look dirty but still brown water came out. I’ll do the other carpets after Christmas.
Our daughter, daughter in law and two granddaughters are vegetarians, not sure about a veg wellington @heddlo but I did make Jamie Oliver veggie gravy yesterday to try it out, oh so many ingredients, but it’s nice, in the freezer now.
Just had to stop writing this to go out and wave to Father Christmas on his sleigh, all lit up. It’s the rotary club collecting, lovely tradition every year. The little ones opposite loved it.
Friends coming on Monday, ear appointment Wednesday, hairdressers Thursday and dentist Friday. So quite a busy week ahead.0 -
Birthday greetings to your OH for tomorrow @KjellNN and I too hope you are soon over your colds, which do seem to be dragging on somewhat.
Last night it was freezing when I took Flyte for his last walk and the temperature hadn't risen much this morning, but just enough to dispel the ice from the car window, however it was exceedingly foggy. This had gradually dispersed by 10:30 when we went for a walk along the canal adjacent to the site and eventually the sun came out as forecast. Our son and DIL, and Leo their working Cocker, came round after lunch for a few hours, and it was lovely to see them. Lots to chat about, catching up with their news and exchanging presents as we won't see them again for a while.

Been a tough couple of weeks, my brother in law died a couple of weeks ago. I first met Keith in 1965 when we were in the Army. The funeral is on the 22 December.
Lovely weather today, so a relatively pleasant drive to Hampshire to see my brother and other family. Going home Tuesday so staying in a hotel instead of dragging the van down

So sorry to hear your sad news @Oneputt

It has been another dry but windy, and at times, sunny day, good enough to dry another round of washing dried outside. However it has recently started to rain, but nowhere as bad as they are having in The Lakes. We had a couple of walks at Kinver Edge again but from the Vale Rocks carpark this time, close by the MBT trails. The first one was up to see Nanny's Caves, which are decorated with hundreds of examples of griffity.

Not checked in a couple of days. Seemed to have found too much to do recently. An awful day weather wise here in North Wales today. Continuous rain since just before midnight last night. We did have a lovely day on Saturday so took the opportunity of getting a long local walk in.
Its that time of the year when you receive both good news but bad news as well from people you haven't heard of for a while and all 3 of us here had bad news this morning. The rain just about seemed appropriate this morning.
We're hoping to cheer ourselves up in midweek when we pay a visit to a cousin and her husband. Always lots of laughter.
My sincere condolences to you @Oneputt on your recent bad news.

So sorry to hear that you have all had bad news today @Wherenext. I have heard in the past week that my very best and longest standing friend - we have known each other since we were 12 and have been each others bridesmaids and godmothers to each others children etc - has acute myeloid leukaemia, then at the weekend we were told that our Grand-daughter's FIL has cancer and is waiting to go into Addenbrooks. I am therefore feeling a bit down at the moment but I shall try and be positive and count our blessings for what we do have. I did have a nice festive meet up with friends from work this morning when we exchanged Christmas cards and caught up with our news.

So sorry to hear that both @Wherenext and @milliehull have had had news this weekend.
More rain through the the night and this morning, but thankfully it had virtually stopped by the time we were ready to pack up and move site. It was a dry run down to Blackmore and we were able to get set up without getting wet on a pitch in our chosen area. The site is very quiet, just 15 units on pitch and not all appear to be occupied. We had more rain this afternoon, which was rather heavy at times, then a dry spell, but it has started yet again so a last wet walk shortly.

Very sorry to hear others have had bad news, never easy, but somehow seems more difficult at this time of year.
Someone mentioned vegetarian Xmas food…….this is a delicious veggie option, in fact think it’s our choice for this Christmas. Note it’s veggie, not vegan, but might be possible to do it vegan with some substitutions (cheese, butter, cream)
Very busy with Mum at the moment, we have nurses in each day, so my visits might be sporadic 😵💫

My empathy goes to you @milliehull as well.
OH and self took ourselves off early this morning to an Outlet Village. Madness I know but surprisingly it was very civilised and people light. We got what we went for quite quickly and the same could be said for the follow on visit to M&S. I WAS SANDBAGGED!! OH lured me in there under false pretences on looking for something for MiL but I had to buy some new thermal short sleeved round neck vests, these for sleeping in, as apparently the ones I currently use are falling apart. OK, so the neck is coming apart on all of them and admittedly the rim at the bottom is fraying a bit but REALLY? There's at least another year in them. OH pointed out my propensity to find myself in a hospital bed on a fairly regular basis and she will not have me looking like some Hobo! Her words. Besides which she did point out that she would probably get the blame for letting me sleep in them.
I'm going to have a period of mourning when the present lot are disposed of and no, they're apparently not going to charity shop.
Still, I know there are worse things happening in the world. Best wishes to all on here and I hope it goes well for everyone over the Festive season.

Not been on for a bit, currently away, home tomorrow. As usual enjoyed seeing the various photos from around the country. Really sorry to read of bad news for some; it's hard to deal with at any time, but somehow at this time it seems worse. I suppose because of all the so-called "festive cheer" around, it must seem even worse.
We were at Blackmore last week for 4 nights @nelliethehooker and it was probably the same then, very few units. A good site at a good price though, around £22.50 a night, We visited Upton and Worcester; the Severn in both was very high with flooding apparent in a number of places. The cathedral in Worcester was fantastic, I assume you have/will visit(ed).

Sorry to hear thst your mum is not too well @Takethedogalong hope everything is well soon.
More expense then @Wherenext although I suppose needs must!!
After a wet night today has been fine and sunny at times. We headed over to Ledbury this morning for a walk and some shopping. We had expected to drive past Eastnor on the way, and have a walk there, but because of road closures were diverted in the opposite direction. However we did call into the car park opposite the castle entrance on the way back to the van, so took the opportunity to have a shorter walk than originally intended, up to the Golden Gates Lodges.
Close to the path was this rather unique block of concrete. Does anyone know what it is or was? To the left, on the horizon, an even older construction, British Camp on the Malvern Hills.
This is one of the many old Oak trees on the estate which caught my eye.
ThIs was our sky tonight, which augers well for tomorrow perhaps, although the forecast is for more rain.

@nelliethehooker I could be wrong but it looks like a section of the Berlin Wall? If it is no idea how it got there?
David

@Wherenext listen to your OH re underwear and hospitals😁 I used to wear my older undies for horse riding, (comfort, mucky jobs, etc….) all reasonable in my mind………..until I got thrown off😱 So there I am, back of an ambulance, emptying a bottle of Entonox, screaming my head off. All I could think about was my less than perfect undies, no matter that my landing pad had been the stinking muck heap, or that I had an arm hanging off, someone would judge my undies🤣 Wise words from your OH🤭
Interesting find @nelliethehooker let us know if DK has got it right. Haven’t checked, but is that very old tree reputed to be the one where Chas II hid in Civil War?
We are thoroughly enjoying watching old TdeF races here. Last night was Brad in the yellow jersey, leading out Cav down the Champs Elysees to a fabulous lone victory. We are into 2013 now, and the start of Chris Froome’s wonderful era.

@nelliethehooker David Klyne was right it is a piece of the Berlin Wall that the owner bought over from Germany earlier this year and it is mounted on the base of an old Nissan hut which was used by the Americans during the second world war to get ready for the D-Day landings same as the CCC site and Caravan club site were also used for the Amercians training as my late mum did have a date with one of them so she said, apparently there is a small piece of the Berlin wall taken to Mars not sure why, hope you had a good day around Ledbury one of my places to visit when we have been to Malvern as said before my old stomping ground and where I met my husband.
As to history there is a old Oak tree stump in Cossington village which might have been used for hanging by Judge Jefferies in the late 1600's.

A cold but dry day here today with quite a hard frost this morning. We decided to wrap up warm and have a stroll in Ferry Meadows. We enjoyed the wild life and fresh air, then had a coffee and a snack and also bought a few foodie Christmas treats in the shop on the way back to the car. We then delivered some Christmas cards on the way home. This is a lovely peaceful view over Lynch Lake. Also there were at least a dozen cormorants roosting in the big tree in Overton Lake but I couldn't get close enough to get a decent photo. The CAMC site looked to be about half full when we drove past

That is so interesting to know. Thank you @RedKite.

Rain, more rain, biblical rain, ark building plans searched for! Amazingly when we drove out of Wales early this morning, well early for us, into Cheshire the rain stopped. It stayed that way until we ventured back into Wales just before 4pm were we immediately met with a sign telling us we were entering Wales and a splatter of raindrops.☔️
Had a lovely few hours with my cousin and hubby at their house. Lots of laughter, much needed, especially to cheer OH as its the anniversary of her fathers passing today. It does get easier as the years roll by but it's still a day to remember.

More expense then @Wherenext although I suppose needs must!!
It wasn't too bad @nelliethehooker as my brother sent an M&S gift card voucher. I usually just pass them onto OH. Bit annoyed with him though as it was £6 short! Thinking of either asking him for the balance or starting a go fund me page. What do you suggest?
