Mrs H had the cough & cold thing for about three weeks, but seems to be getting over it now. She tried to pass it on to me, but I refused to accept it.

    Positive thought.....the way forward smile

Up at 6am again this morning, breakfast in bed for Mrs H, finished writing my report then de-frosted the car and another day at CAB.

It seemed to stay cold all day, so didn't even bother with my usual stoll around town at lunch time.

When we were at the Doctors yesterday, she told us she had seen 26 patients so far and 20 of those had serious chest infections. It seems a nasty virus going around, the Dr says she has never seen so many folk in one day with the same complaint.

Weather still quite mild for the time of year.

It was minus 3 degrees when I set off this morning. Drove into freezing fog and it dropped to minus 6 degrees.

    Brrrrrrrr!

Woke up to our third morning of frost and mist. Looks as if last night's was the most severe. Mist was taking ages to clear, unlike yesterday when the sun appeared above the mist early on, so temperature stayed below freezing all the time we were preparing to leave CL. Drove through some quite thick mist patches in the Frome Valley and more when we crossed the Severn. Arrived on our new CL at noon to find that all the taps are frozen and outside temperature was still at 0. Steve, the owner, took OH in for a coffee while I set up and then filled our water barrels from inside the house while we sorted out the inside of the van and I took Flyte for a walk. The haw frost eventually disappeared from the ground about 4:00pm when it clouded up, but it's still cold. Just hope that the water's running tomorrow as I don't want to keep bothering Steve in the house.

Kids and Gkids now left after a full afternoon and evening, why do I suddenly feel old. Younger brother skype'd from Malta while they were here so they all managed a good chat and laugh, its been a long time since we've all been together.

Weather still mild here, hope the freezing fog is letting up down south.

Another misty day, but after a frost in the night, the temperature's risen somewhat. Son and partner came over to the van and we all went out for a meal at a local hostelry. As they are moving house early next month they couldn't stay overlong...too much work to do... but it was great to see them again. Hopefully we'll have clear weather tomorrow.

Spent the afternoon at DD's working on converting a kitchen cupboard to deep pan drawers.  Went well  but slowly, so have to go back tomorrow once I have made the drawer backs.

While I was slaving away, OH and DD went out to look at Stressless recliners and have found  a few they liked.  Next thing they ring me to go and look at a VW Touareg they had found at the dealer just down the road.

Good spec, good price, just what we need to replace the XC90, pre-registered by the dealer so 4 months old, only 10 miles on the clock, we are going back on Tuesday for a test drive of a similar model.  Very tempted!

I had a busy morning. Firstly, I went to Tesco Pharmacy to collect my prescription medicines. Then I went to the Smart Service dept in Portslade, Brighton where they set up a service plan for three years at £20 per month. After that I went to the Worthing town centre. I used the Grafton Road car park and had to go right to the top level 10 to find a parking space. I then had to walk down to level 7 to get to the lift. As there was a long queue, I decided to use the stairs to get down to level one which is the first floor of Marks and Spencers. I bought some new pyjamas and handkerchieves whilst there and then went to the food store on the ground floor where I bought Paella and the TV times for the new year programmes.

After that, I got the lift up to the car park, went to the pay machine, paid the fee by card and then drove back home to the caravan.

It was foggy all day so I had an afternoon in the caravan which was warm and comfortable with the heating on.

It's all gone a bit quiet here. Yesterday the last of the family visitors went home. All that's left behind are a dog bowl (forgotten) and dog hairs on the carpet (not picked up by Grandson's vacuuming).

Kjell, has the tempting Touareg scuppered your thoughts of a motorhome?

i guess most MHers dont have such a large car as this as a second vehicle, although your weather situation is diffierent where you are...

we now have a tiny Fiat 500 for zipping about...

Probably!  We had recently come to the decision that as the caravan is fine, we would not go for a MH unless we found one that "ticked all the boxes".

However, the problems with the XC90 are becoming pressing, so ideally we want rid of it before an expensive repair becomes essential, and before our next trip away in April.

Our second car is only a 2 seater Smart, so not suitable (with grandchildren) as an only car along with MH. Also, the luggage capacity is very small, just about enough for a main shop.  But it is great for parking in town.

We had originally  thought, if we did go for a MH,  just to keep the Volvo as it is now worth very little, but it's erratic behaviour is worrying.

There are a few things to  check out on the VW, so no decision as yet.

Malcolm......£240 seems a lot to service a Smart car.

I thought they just tightened up the rubber band a bit? wink

KjeIINN.......the VW Toureg looks a very nice car. We looked at them before we bought our Volvo but too expensive then, so if you've seen one at a good price it could be a really good buy.

How many miles has your XC 90 done?

Coming up on 95k Ian, had it almost 10 years now, but it has had a lot of problems, more problems than all the other Volvos we have owned added together!  And we have had 15  Volvos since 1972, at one time we had 3 in the family.  We had a 245 for 15 years, a 940 for 14 years, and DD has a V40 (used to be ours) that is 14 years past September

The new XC90 is just a bit on the expensive side, and our experience with this one has rather put us off.

The Touareg is a 3.0 V6 TDI BlueMotion Tech 262 R Line Tiptronic Auto, almost £10k off list price, we could have dark grey metallic or reef blue metallic, the blue is nice, the grey OK but quite dark.

OH is very keen on it, this really would be our last big car this time!

Ours only has about 35k miles on it, so hopfully it will keep going a while yet.

Only problem has been a manifold gasket that blew (known fault, apparantly. Car got home in limp mode. Pity they didn't recall it if it was a known fault, but repaired under warranty).

Oh, and the lock for the detachable towbar stopped working......also done under warranty.

Other than that it's just been serviced and a replacement set of tyres (and I've been very pleased with the Nokians).

I do like the look of the Toureg though........and the new XC90. But as you say, the latter is very expensive.

DD's pan drawers now all finished and taken into use, the surplus doors and shelf ahe will stash in her loft, just in case.

She bought the matching drawer fronts, and the metal fully extending runners and sides, I made the bases and backs from panels they were giving away at Ikea, and the high level side rails are recycled Ikea blind rods, Existing handles were reused, so total cost £110 plus my time.

My next task is to make a lid rack that will fit in the spare space in the top drawer.

Tomorrow we are invited there for dinner as a "thank you".

Our towball lock also failed, but out of warranty.

Yes, we have the same Nokians, they are good.  First tyres did not last long, but since then we have been getting around 30k miles from each set.  The Nokians are our 3rd replacement set.
