A typical April day here today, squally showers interspersed with warm sunshine but blustery at present.

Managed a dry walk this morning, except for the last 100 yards! Mil and OH took the wheelchair for a spin. Apparently went well.

We had a chat yesterday about the holiday cottage that was booked at Christmas for this summer in Northumbria. We have decided to cancel it as some of the ground around the outside might present a hazard to MiL. She might well be fine come July but we have to pay the balance soon so we thought it prudent to cancel and book something later in the year when we know how things stand.

I phoned the insurer as we paid a substantial deposit. It took a 15 minute chat, no paperwork, no supporting letter from GP and a promise of a refund, less the excess, to be paid into my account within the next 3 working days. To say I was gobsmacked was an understatement. Fantastic service.

WN, good to hear MIL is now mobile albeit with assistance. I'm sure that will lift her spirits to be able to get out and about.

We woke up to snow this morning🥶 lasted until lunchtime then got washed away by the rain 🌧️ it's still 🌧️

The rivers are all running high again and the farmers fields that at long last had dried out enough for the farmers to plough, are once again full of lakes with birds on them.

Just a few weeks now until we head off on our spring trip, I can't wait for some decent weather 🤞🤞🤞

NTH I hope you have a good time in Scotland.

Thanks, TG, we too are hoping for some dry weather, and preferably lots of it!! Hope your spring trip goes well.

Good to read that the trial with the wheel chair went well WN. You will have done well to get most of your deposit back from your insurer.

After a wet night we have had a mostly dry day, although it has been quite chilly with no sunshine.

Like everyone else, we're totally sick and fed up with this weather.  I know it's an exaggeration, but it doesn't seem to have stopped raining since last October! We've made the decision to go home early, on Monday - after this next storm has passed through and we'll get the awning down this morning before the high winds come.

Andrew (the CS owner) has cancelled everyone who was due to arrive this weekend, so we're the only ones here. Those that left during the week have made an absolute mess of the orchard - largely due, I have to say, to inconsiderate driving. They just don't seem to care.

We popped in to see our other farmer friends near Thornton Le Dale, the other day and they're so frustrated as well.  The drilling they managed to do earlier in the year has resulted in nothing more than crops rotting in the fields. I think we're in for some high food prices and shortages later in the year.  I feel really sorry for the farming community - they're really going through a very tough time at the moment. I honestly don't know how any of them make a living.

Oh well - can't do much about it - onwards and upwards, as the saying goessmile

sorry  to read some folk are having not such a good time with the weather, we have been very lucky, we have had some storms but mainly during the night, but some very nice days just a bit on the blustery side, Spanish daughter been visiting for 7 days and we have East Grinstead daughters dog for a couple of weeks so we have been doing a couple of walks per day, she returned yesterday so can rest my legs for a wee while now, EG's dog quite old so i think he will be glad of a rest also, but all in all a very good Easter

weather looking good today so it looks like the washing machine is going to take a pounding, lots of guest bedding to get sorted, and it looks like the conservatory floor could do with a mop after the dog has been in and out, do we really need another dog undecided

getting caravan sorted now for our May trip, hopefully 3 weeks in sunny Cornwall, enjoy whatever you are doing, wont be using that Malton site for some time to come Richard frown

A dry day yesterday!! Well until 5pm. Family gone home, busy motorways they said then M25 just as busy as normal. Managed to get the bedding washed and dried on the four guest beds, our bed change will have to wait a few more days. All floors washed, vacuumed right through and then febreezed all the carpets and rugs, sons dog is lovely but rather smelly, I think it’s just the long hair. Granddaughter coming to stay for a few days today before she tries to go back to uni. She’s been rushed into hospital twice in the past week but been discharged both times after 12 hour stays while they ‘monitor’ her, still can’t get a specialist appointment. Ambulance here in 5 minutes the first time but the second time, at her Mums, the first responders were sent out first as the ambulance had to come from 40 miles away as all local ones busy and tied up.

Son and DIL saw two properties they liked but the one they really liked needs so much work done on it. Son in the trade so could do most of it otherwise it would cost a fortune, very large house and high price. They put in a reasonable high offer, feeling quite confident, but then told elderly sellers will only accept the asking price, with today’s housing market no wonder it has been on the market for over a year, some sellers are just unrealistic about their properties. They may now decide to go for the other one.

Dry up here at the moment but blowing hard with some gusts having you wait to see or hear what's coming crashing down. It does seem as if this winter has been extremely wet in most parts of the UK instead of just a few places.

Nice early present of a PB win texted through this morning. All contributions gratefully received. Been a while since the last one.

Supposed to be taking the Kia in on Monday following recall but garage phoned to say don't bother as they're waiting for parts to come in.

"wont be using that Malton site for some time to come Richard."

We're booked in for Ros's birthday in August - surely it will have dried out a bit by thensmile

On the positive side - Andrew is starting to put some hardstandings in tomorrow - I've been 'nagging' him to do it for ages but I think the loss of income over Easter has started to hit home. He's not spoiling the orchard, though (which is, in effect, his back garden) - they're going in the field next door which isn't visible from the back of the farmhouse.

He's just invested £30k in solar panels / batteries / inverter because his electricity bills are now £1000 per month - and that's before the caravanners arrived! As I said, don't know how farmers are making a living - even with diversification.

Hope your trip to Cornwall goes well - and the sun shines for you!!

I am sure putting in hardstandings (whether you love or hate them) is the way to go for CL's especially with the increasing number of motorhomes. Is the CL in easy walking distance of anywhere like a village or bus service?

    David,

The new kindle is just the basic one, I'm just about getting used to it,  but yes you have to swipe the screen to use it. It is smaller than the old one although the actual screen is the same size.  Just got to make sure I don't drop this one.

Our weather hasn't been too bad over the last few days, some showers and today is windy but very warm, actually had to take my jacket off when out for a walk this afternoon 😀

Visited our friends pub yesterday, they are retiring in June and are looking forward to the rest. No one seems interested in taking on the tenancy so I suppose it will another pub that closes. It's a popular community pub so it would be missed.

Today I have been catching up with household jobs and ironing, OH has been cleaning the caravan roof over the last week, we also found a neat little flat brush which fits in the awning rail to clean all the grime out.

Sorry you had to cut your holiday short Richard, let's hope the weather improves soon.

Take care if travelling this weekend.

Sorry to read that you are cutting your stay at Malton short, Richard. Have a safe tow home on Monday.

Fingers crossed that your granddaughter is able to return to Uni before term starts, Debs.

It has been fine for most of the day, and although windy at times quite warm with it, however get more rain this evening! Baking day for OH, making cakes, and cooking them in the Airfryer, to take away with us on the next trip. If they taste as good as they looks we might well try some when we are away in the van.

David - here's a couple of photos from last year - when it was dry! You can see the attraction that the site has - the orchard is lovely and very peaceful and with only 5 vans in 2 acres (with the field next door) there's oodles of space. The original part of the farmhouse dates back to the 15th century.

I don't like hardstandings but, I agree, they are a necessity and, at least, confined to the other field, they're out of sight of the house.

That said, it's not an ideal MH location. Nearest village is about two miles away and all there is, is a pub - but I think that closed recently.  No bus service either but Malton is just over two miles away.

Thanks for the pictures, it does look nice. We have managed to find a few CL's near to things including bus stops but I suppose by their very nature they are few and far between.

David, if you let us know where you are thinking of going,  or would like to go, then the people who use CLs on here might be able to help you with details of things like bus services or distances to shops etc.

Another blustery day. It was warm this morning when the sun was out but squally showers have now taken over.

I'm waiting for a timer to go off. I'm cleaning the extractor panels and also oven cleaning so plenty of elbow grease needed. I find the materials we get from Lakeland to be quite good for these jobs.

I suppose with this southerly wind and storm that there will be a lot of dust covered vehicles and caravans after it's gone.

Thanks WN we already have some sand and will get more tonight and tomorrow as more on the way with strong winds and a thunderstorm.

Went to the annual boot sale in our village and very busy not seen so many stalls OH got a bargain a real Maglite torch for 2 euros and it works and now in my car as it is a blue torch almost the same colour as the car.

Weather at the moment is mixed with some sun and grey clouds and muggy so storm on the way.

Housework tomorrow and OH will do more to inside trim around new front door.

Not long now for our trip to UK and looking forward to visiting old haunts around Malvern.

Well, 2nd day 😱 very breezy day. We did have some drizzle last evening.

Have our grandson for a sleepover 🤞. Mummy at Wembley KO very soon. Grandson wearing his club shirt! Not sure on loyalites son did an internship as wycombe physio!

Son meeting his groomsman to travel to other groomsman, courtesy of staff travel, in Porto. They've been friends literally since they were babies in arms - subsequent children. Son's trip needs to coincide with off days for the pilot and school hols for the teacher! Duty rotas only come out monthly....... I'm happy to help as I don't know when they'll next get together, son and DIL are expecting a baby, hopefully after harvest. If anything gets sown or survives the wet. Our new vicar inducted today so  DIL mum representing is all.....

Grandson and I spent lovely play outside. Had to move the Wendy house as we watched  one section of the roof fly off 😱😱. Thus we weren't overly surprised to watch the dustbin lid lift up and rubbish fly round the garden. Great exercise for a 3 year to collect it up 😂

Hoping we'll get some more rain overnight for our treated grass, but at slight odds 😉 over this with DIL....

We are all prepared for sleepover and nursery run OR to load up the car and get him to his own bed at any stage!

Grandson bathed, naughty flannel visited and washed his hair 😉. Lovely reading bedtime books, our children's so nice fuzzy feeling. Left him reading himself. Now sound asleep 😴. 🤞. Bless him He's never had a sleepover anywhere without mum and dad .

It has been very windy here the past few days but not as windy as in the west of the country. The BBC  news last night mentioned how windy it was in N. Ireland and specifically mentioned Strangford which is where our son and his family live so we made a quick call. Son said yes it was a 'bit breezy' but they were OK. As well as being windy it has been warm here and quite sunny at times so I got loads of washing dried outside and OH cut the grass which has dried out quite nicely. Lots of people (mostly men) out in shorts and Tshirts!

I joined a Chair Yoga class on Friday which I thoroughly enjoyed. I am hoping it might improve my mobility and balance.

We had new neighbours move in just before we went to NI so I went round to introduce myself yesterday. They are 2 widowed sisters who have decided to sell up their respective houses and move in together. Probably in their 70s. They look quite similar so I am not sure I will remember which one I am speaking to!

Good news about the expected grandchild later in the year bakers2. It sounds as though you are having fun with your grandson. Our local son and 2 grandsons went to the Posh match at Wembley today and have just messaged to say the won 2-1 so great celebrations!

I hope your amazing and plucky grand-daughter manages to get back to Uni DEBSC.

I hope anyone out and about this weekend has stayed safe.

Delighted to report we have a great night 😃. He's still sound asleep. I think we'll be a bit later to nursery!

I've done all my 1st jobs now breakfasting.

Nursery maybe later than I fear, got the car seat to fasten 😂😂. No pushchair so a slow walk the 5 or so miles....... Or the push trike! Maybe a day off??

Thank you milliehull. Could be a busy harvest in more than one way! Hope your son and grandson pleased with the result and are home safely. DIL said it was an OK game until the last 10 minutes which were exciting. She was pleased the winner scored by one of their own academy lads.

Beautiful red sky at 0545, didn't last long as its now grey. Wind thankfully has finally dropped. Can't imagine how it was in the west. It is 10c and dry but a shower, very localised to my grassed areas 😉, will be welcome as what were muddy treated areas are now getting dusty

Off to Norwich shortly to visit my brother,  haven’t been to see him for over a week.  Will take Mrs Ones car but doubt we will put the roof down.

We did some work in the garden yesterday, dug the veg patch and planted out the broad beans.  The pond has hundreds of tadpoles swimming around, wonder how many will make it

I miss Brue, a lovely person. Always enjoyed talking to her about gardening, such a wealth of knowledge. If anyone is still in touch, please pass on kind regards.

Not much happening here, other than routine stuff. Busy creating, hoping to get into garden as we are re doing our Sun terrace area. Pooch walking.

Good to hear livestock is out Goldie. Always a nice day when horses could finally go out after Winter, and it’s great watching them skip around. Hope things are going ok for you.
