Nellie a pity about your visit to Biddulph Grange, we went there before we had our latest dog, we knew it would be better on our own. It turned out we were nearly totally on our own, only about six visitors on a wet day! I was stunned by the gardens, the Chinese area is wonderful, all the better for having no-one around.

Brue, we have been before but seem to remember taking Flyte round with us. However the Country Park is just up the road from the Garden's entrance, has a decent sized free car park and good hard tracks for walking. The Gardens were not busy yesterday, and they have opened a gallery adjacent to the house with a fascinating geology timeline of rock types and fossils ( mostly models of the originals that were displayed by James Bateman, who developed the gardens).

TG, hope you are soon fully recovered....and the same wishes go to all others who have been poorly lately.

We have had another mainly fine day, although we did get caught out in a short shower this afternoon. Had a couple of walks around Alderly Edge from the N/T's car park by The Wizard. It was fairly busy in the morning but quite a bit quieter after lunch.

Seeing your comment about " Hat knitting "  TG, I was reminded of the Serial Knitters of Premature babies coloured wooly hats ! Not only do they keep the little Darlings warm but the colours are chosen to indicate the little ones state of health without need to disturb them { Red ~ poorly / yellow or orange  ~ fair / Green ~ fit for transfer to normal ward }.

I seem to recall some such places in or near Norfolk were inundated  with them but they don't go stale !

What an excellent idea, I've heard of knitting hats and mitts for the little ones but never colour coordinating them to their state of health. I think I will get my wife to knit me three.

Red ....... don't even think about it.

Orange .... only if you must .

Green...... milk and one sugar please...😀😀.

Well, we had a lovely surprise this morning - grandchild number 7 arrived this morning in Macau.  He’s a month early due to Mum having some worrying issues the Doctor was concerned about so they did an emergency C section.  He’s in NICU as he has respiratory distress due to slight prematurity but will be ok in a few days 🤞🏻.

Like the knitted hat idea Trellis OH as a green one and a blue one ha ha.

Congratulations Heddlo on your new granchild.

Well back to chores today washing out and now drying with some sun on it and we have been out with mowers on a high cut gathering leaves as we had most come down in December but both down with cold/cough bug nothing was done so a good mornings work.

Off later for 5th Covid jab where we went before about 12 miles from and a nice run so will take flask of coffee for a hot drink after the jab as a few good spots we can stop at on the way back, need to change clothes a tee shirt needed for easy access to jabbing arm.

Take care folks and enjoy your weekend.

Thanks B2.  Yes we are going out there next month to see them all and our other grandchildren in HK.  Covid restrictions being removed we thought it a good time to visit but think we may have been wrong, hey ho, too late now so we will just be careful and keep our fingers crossed.  It will lovely to see them all even though we may lose some sleep!! 😂

Fairly bright day outside and not cold OH says.

I'm not venturing out just now. Still full of the cold, cough has eased a bit today but it's now more chesty. I have been mixing up lemon and honey brue, bought a bag full of lemons when OH started with it almost finished now. I need to get better quick as our eldest son and gKids are on their way up here. On this occasion they won't be staying with us but with his in laws. GKids due back to school on Tuesday, local school teachers will be on strike here but theirs is a boarding school so not affected.

Managed to knit another hat this morning but only on the 3rd time of trying. First 2 attempts I will have to rattle down, as I made a mistake on them, different mistake each time, not 100% concentration.😞

    Great news Heddlo. Congrats.

That cold is lingering TG. There does seem a lot of it about and many are having difficulty getting rid of it. Best wishes.

Mixed day. Man came to instal new shower this morning in MiLs bathroom as old one broke. Thought it was an easy job but when he took old casing off it proved a lot trickier than he'd imagined. He's a man we can trust and lives in the village so not trying anything funny. He called in a favour from another mate and it took them a good 3 hours work. Fortunately his bill was very reasonable.

Mrs WN broke another tooth last night so she has an appointment next Tuesday at the dentist. She did however receive a nice email from NS&I giving her some money so that sweetened the pill.

Noticed the price of petrol and diesel gone down. Did see a differential of £0.27 a litre between the two today. Typical that we don't need any just yet.

Nice news for all of you Heddlo, hope all goes well for the visit.

We paid a rare visit to our local town centre today  it's very run down so that didn't cheer us up, the town has had millions of pounds for improvements but not much sign of money well spent.

We're doing a village fund raising event soon, have been told Covid is rampant, wondering if things will go ahead. Decided to wear a mask in town!

WN.  Next week's excitement is a visit to the dentist for me too.

Well that’s it, Christmas break is finally over. Our daughter and family stayed with us for three days over Christmas, visited Son for extended New Year, two days home to unpack, do the washing, tidy up and take the decs down, collected granddaughter, who stayed over before we took her back to Plymouth for University. The car was rammed with all her luggage, presents etc. Although to be fair her wheelchair and the motorised fifth wheel take up the most space. Dropped all this off at her flat, then took her to do a big shop at Tesco, it should keep her going for a while, put it all away while OH got her printer working. Then we went to eat at her favourite Pizza Hut. Glad that we decided to stop over in a Travelodge for the night instead of driving straight back, why are their pillows like bricks! Today we called in at Trago on the way home, very quiet.

When she started Uni in September she was so nervous, especially with her illness. This time she couldn’t wait to get back. As soon as she got in friends were asking her round for meals etc. All very reassuring. Even though our grandchildren are grown they still do manage to make me laugh, there is a Co-op funeral business at the end of her road, she commented, ‘I wouldn’t use them, I wouldn’t want them burying me and then working in the food shop!’ I couldn’t stop laughing and had to explain.

Tomorrow is catchup day, housework and shopping, tonight though I’ll be slumped in front of the tv.

Congratulations heddlo Such lovely news to start the New Year. I hope the NICU stay ( I called it SCBU when I worked at our local Maternity Unit wink) is a short one.  Have a lovely visit next month.

TG so sorry to hear your cough and cold are lingering. I know one or two people who are having trouble shaking it off. I think we all need some nice spring weather. I did suggest to one friend who was still poorly last weekend that she needed a lovely holiday in the sunshine and she said that she didn't have the energy to organise or even go on one at the moment. I hope you feel better soon and can enjoy your family visit.

Sorry to hear about Mrs WN's tooth but glad you got your shower sorted in the end.

We have had a productive day. We went shopping in our local garden centre today and they had 75% reduction on their Christmas decorations so I got a lovely front door wreath reduced from £44.99 to just over £11. We also got a nice replacement for our glass bird bath that was a casualty of the frost and ice last month. We spent quite a bit of time in the garden this afternoon doing more cutting back and tidying. Off to our grand-daughter's tomorrow afternoon for our Gt.  grandson's 3rd birthday celebrations,

It's been a busy week, few extra hours at work , was surprised as I had thought it would be quiet over Christmas 🤔

Did squeeze a meet up with some friends for a New Year drink, nice to catch up with their news, not all good unfortunately  😢

All decorations now taken down and packed away, Aldi had some large vacuum bags this week so have been sorting out some spare bedding that can be packed away too.

Made a visit to check the caravan in storage, all seems okay and we didn't get stuck in the compound this time 🤣🤣 I am waiting for follow up appointment date and then we will try and get away for a few days, last break was October.

Congratulations Heddlo on your new Grand child.

Happy Birthday to your Gt, Grandson Millie, hope you enjoy the party.

Great news for you, Heddlo, and hope your grandson is not long in the NICU.

Millie, looks as if you picked the right day to go shopping at the garden centre. Hope you have a good day at your Gt Grandsons birthday party.

Debs, you certainly have had a busy holiday period, and pleased that your granddaughter is enjoying her time at uni, and that she has such nice friends by the sounds of it.

Sorry to hear of Mrs WN's broken tooth, hope that she can get it fixed satisfactorily without it costing the earth.

It was raining heavily when I took Flyte out for our last walk at 10:00 pm yesterday so had to cut our usual route in halk, and still came back a bit damp!! Better day today, and was surprised how little surface water there was on the paths from the site, which were flooded 10 hrs earlier. Shopping in the morning followed by a walk around Brereton Heath after lunch.

Just heard the news story on the TV... twins born... but one was born just before midnight on 31st December 2022 and one was born just after midnight on January 1st 2023 - not only born on different days, but born in different years!

TG,  sorry to hear you are still suffering but, just to cheer you up ( wink )  I got a late afternoon text from the Surgery telling me that my New Year Rollicking over poor sugar level control has been delayed, and moved from Monday to three weeks time due to Staff illness surprised . Why do I get the feeling that they are just doing exercises to build up their muscles frown.

I'll still have to go down there though on Monday 'cos my Ducato is in dock [ not docktors ] just a few yards away since it has refused to start before party time  ~~  it seems it could be timing chain problems and I do need a courtesy car to help keep my shopping up to date !!

P.S.   Got a nice surprise yesterday  while helping the Recovery man load up the Ducky  ~~  The Royal Mail turned up with my latest Christmas Card  --  Happy Days are here again  smile

Horrible wet day, so OH had a baking morning, so I kept well away from the kitchen 😀

Decided that I needed to sort the spare bedroom, it's been the dumping ground for months, can now see the floor and get to the bed!! 😳 I then decided to give the box room a tidy too. Afterwards I needed a lie down !! 🤣

Dog walk was in full waterproofs, but we did get a glimpse of the sun and a lovely rainbow 🌈.

    Have a good weekend.

Millie, thanks for your kind words. It does seem to be stubborn, today is a little easier not so much coughing. Hope your friend feels better soon.

WN, hope OHs dental visit goes OK.

    Heddlo Congratulations.

Rainy day today not heavy but on and off.

Haven't been out today just pottering around indoors. No knitting machine today it causes a bit of fluff so don't want to inhale it and aggrivate the cough.

ABM, thanks, hope Ducky isn't to poorly and major surgery not needed 😊

I have twin sisters in law with birthdays this month, they were originally triplets...I don't know if OH could have coped with three new sisters as they were late arrivals, my in laws were in their forties, having separate birthdays would have been quite nice!

The very strong winds and deluges seem to have stopped tonight, we had great rolls of thunder earlier on, just about everything coming out of the skies!

Hope you feel better soon TG. Also Helen, sounds like you have done enough today! wink

Congratulations heddlo, hope the babe will soon be home!

Better day today, even quite a bit of sun after several showery days.

Trying to get "back to normal" after the holiday period, decorations are packed away, but still a good deal of other tidying to do as our bathroom upstairs is still not finished so lots of bits and pieces lying around.

We are still waiting for the correct door for our shower enclosure to be delivered, seems it is taking the long way round, travelling from the manufacturer in Cumbria down to the retailer in Plymouth and then back to Glasgow!  Hopefully it has not got lost en route.  Once that is in place I can get the finishing touches done.

Friday we picked up Nathan from nursery and met with Mummy and Callum (who had been to some huge soft play place) at Ikea for lunch and shopping.  Very busy on the roads and in all the shops, even though most schools were already back.

They had dropped into a fabric shop on their way to Ikea to look at curtain materials etc in the sale, and seen some that met with approval, so yesterday we went down to help measure up and then went to make the purchases as they had made plans for a family outing.

So we now have a pair of large curtains to make, and loose linings.   DD is making the 5 cushion covers herself.

She will need to get in the queue as we already have a ready made pair to alter for our DIL, as she does not sew.  She liked the fabric, but the tops have eyelets for a pole, so they have to be  cut off and replaced with regular pencil pleat tape.  We did some for her before, it is a bit of a job when the curtains have sewn in linings!

Mrs WNs birthday today. She's busy trying to find ways to spend her Premium Bond win from the other day so looking at plenty of Art Suppliers web pages. Her broken tooth seems to be behaving itself. Hope it stays that way until Tuesday.

Not the best of days weather wise so not doing a great deal. Probably checking on cars on the web later as we're thinking of having a change. The Nellies are due to visit tomorrow so I suppose we'll have to make an effort and clean the pig sty up.surprisedsmile

Hope the flooding recedes a bit Brue but looking at the forecast that might be a forlorn wish. Saw that the fens around Welney were flooded again.

Shopping in Tesco today, never normally go on a Sunday, very surprised, it was packed. Decided to do a meal plan for the week, scoured my recipe books for inspiration, and went armed with a list, which I stuck to.

Good job that we are all different KJ we only buy curtains with eyelets, I don’t sew so these are perfect as if the curtains don’t quite fit we just move the pole up, rather than alter the curtains. I also find that they    ‘ pull’ better.

I also had a small PB win but it was spent on Granddaughters food shopping, well these poor students do need to eat. 😁 Happy Birthday Mrs WN and enjoy your internet shopping.

I'll be happy having another Kia, probably the smaller Sportage range, if they do an automatic one. OH wants the Sorrento that can park itself.laughing Premium Bond win wasn't that big!

OH has also been talking about looking for a new car.    Her Smart, bought back in 2013, is only a 2 seater, so not really practical now we have 2 small grandchildren to fetch from nursery, or to lend to DD if necessary.  Thinking to, sometime later in the year, offer the Smart to our grandson who will be 17 in March and no doubt wanting to learn to drive.  His dad has already said he will not be getting to use his car!

Grandson may of course not want it.

We need  an automatic, nothing low slung, the Smart is an ideal height for dodgy knees, nothing too big, but enough cargo space for a pushchair, maybe a small SUV?   Not sure where to start!
