That must have been dreadful WN. We had a horsey friend who lost one of her Pointers. She waited until 3am in morning to give them a walk, thinking it would have calmed down. But no. One dog slipped his lead, was never seen again, leaving owners distraught. Like you, I doubt they would ever be fully banned, but it’s the unregulated use that is the problem, and of course no one to do anything about it. ☹️

That is awful WN What a dreadful thing to have happened.  I have campaigned for years to get the sale of fireworks to the general public banned and to only have organised firework displays but to no avail so far.  I have even signed petitions but we all just get emails back from the Government in reply saying more or less that everyone is using them responsibly yell

The 5th.November was on a weekend that year. On the Monday we both attended night school as were still taking lessons in French. We were in separate classes and Mrs WN was terribly upset when we finished our respective classes.

So I asked her what was wrong. The teacher was teaching them the past tense and for some reason known only to him he used the English example of "My dog died last week". You can imagine OHs horror and she ran out of the class. The teacher, to be fair to him, was dreadfully upset by what he had inadvertently done. It didn't help that she saw that teacher regularly as she worked in that college!

Talk about a dreadful few days.

WN, what a terrible thing to happen and poor Mrs WN how awful that must have been for her.

I love watching fireworks but I do think they should be only allowed at organised displays. A few years ago after bonfire night we discovered a firework on the roof of the caravan. Thankfully no damage done to it but it could have had.

NTH, as far as I know the hotel in Perth is mostly residential. Terrible thing to happen, not confirmed but there is talk of it being a portable electric heater.

Kj, thats a good reduction you have there. We will have to wait until the end of January to do a comparison as we were away for 2 weeks in December last year. I worked out what we have paid for LPG and electric over the last 12 mths, fortunately our Fits payments covered both bills. Will they do so next year I wonder. Our electric supplier has reduced our DD as we are in credit, they haven't taken a payment the last 2 months.

Slightly milder day today, dark damp and miserable. Both feeling much better, thanks for the good  wishes.

Another 2 hats knitted on the machine, OH managed to claim one of the ones I knitted yesterday surprised

Christmas tree and Dec's all taken down and put away, I really need to have a clear out there are far to many, most don't even see the light of day anymore.

We have been very fortunate with each of our Springers not being over bothered by exploding noises in the distance, although one was spooked when a numpty let off a banger close to us when out for a walk well before bonfire night. We tend to be away in the country for both 5th Nov and NYE so away from most of the excessive noises. This year there were a few loud bangs around midnight quite close by but thankfully they didn't last very long at all, probably all done within 10 mins.

Had a sharp frost yesterday evening and the car was frozen up when we went to bed. However it had warned up and was raining when we got up and although not heavy it continued on and off whilst we packed up. It carried on raining on the trip over and we were in fairly thick mist too over the Cat and Fiddle, but any easy run all the same!. We did manage to set up again without getting wet and our afternoon walks have all been in the dry, although it is raining again now.

WN, so sorry to hear about your Westie, and how you both must have felt after the teachers comments.

Thanks TG, that's what we thought, such a tragedy, but it could have so easily been a lot worse.

Still can't fit a date in for getting out in the caravan in January!!  It'll be the longest break we've ever had between trips....  our last trip out was the beginning of November...  getting a bit stir crazy at the moment.  At least our daughter and family are coming down from the Outer Hebrides for 10 days (watch out IKEA....) and we have a couple of other familiy get togethers!  When we go to town later, I'll quickly pop up to storeage so that the 'van doesn't think we've forgotten all about it!!  🤣🤣🤣

I loved the recent Mortimer and Whitehouse fishing programme from Norway. Still miffed we missed out on our trip over there due to illness. I see they tucked into some Cloudberry jam, remember KJ talking about it when we received a jar as recompense. wink

Managed to go to the hairdresser today and now winding down after the latest cancelled visit from son and family. This part of the year has been all about food and no-one to eat it!!

Although we have floods round here at least it's dry today.

I know how you feel David we came home from our last trip out in the van on 31st October and couldn’t get away the whole of November or December we had actually planned a few days away at Strathclyde Park starting today but it’s very windy here and reports of flooding on the M77 so we have abandoned that idea although we do hope to get a weekend away at some point in January

Will be a while before we can venture out. Trying not to miss it though.

Blood test this morning. Turned up just gone 9.30, no patients waiting so I was called in straightaway. "Stabber" confirmed that there other appointments before mine but nobody had cancelled. We're sent a reminder day before with a link to cancel if necessary. There may well be a good excuse for the occasional person missing their appointment and not being able to let the health board know but the phlebotomist did say its quite a common occurrence these days.

Bit of shopping with OH at Aldi on the way home.

Hope the Oneputts have fully recovered from their bout of covid.

Another grey and fairly wet day here, only a short sunny spell.  At least it is warmer out now.

We had a bit of a hiatus with the new heating last night, went for a shower and discovered we had no hot water!     System absolutely refused to turn on hot water heating, so resorted to immersion heater while we searched internet for a solution.

OH eventually found it.........unlike what I had thought, the wireless thermostat DOES have to be used as part of the system to be able to turn the HW off/on, even if you do not use the thermostat to control the CH.

I was fooled as we did have it installed to start with, everything working, found it seemed it did nothing, so put it away.   Then when we went away overnight the next day we set our status to "away" which turned off the HW, but we did not realise it had not actually been turned on again on our return as the app claimed it was on.

Without the thermostat installed the app only shows what you have set up, not what is actually happening.    No reference to this in the instructions!    Very annoying  😖

Same for us WN, not much chance of getting away at the moment😢 My consolation is my garden, just had a couple of hours grubbing around, seeing bulbs poking through is uplifting for the spirits. In between the rain….

Yes, I hope those who have been on the unwell list are on the mend now.

Another PB win for us🥳 Will fill the Jeep brim full if nothing else. Every little helps👍

WN, missed appointments are such a waste of the NHS time, really annoys me that. Hope the tests go well.

Milder day again here, even managed out in the garden for an hour or so. Could only tidy up the bit nearest the house as the rest is still frozen solid. Did manage to cut down some plants that had gone over, nice to see buds forming at the base. Weeded the gravel drive and brushed the paths. I feel better for it and it looks better so all good.

Back inside and after lunch I knitted another hat, made a mistake and had to take it off the machine and rattle it back, then pick it back up onto the machine again. Only managed 1 today as by the time I'd done that the light was starting to go, so I sat and sewed it up, need to make a bobble for it now.

OH went out to the MH and fitted the new big AGM batterysmile should be able to do the occasional night off grid come the good weather. While out there he also checked over one of the spotlights that stopped working while we were away, works fine now so will have to keep an eye on it as it could be a dodgy connection.

Depending on the weather we may go away for a week or 10 days. Our youngest son has moved into a new house recently and has lots of DIY jobs to do. He is getting on with all he knows how to do but requires some input from his dad to complete some of the others. Lots of phone calls giving advice going on just now.

We stayed at Strathclyde in the summer, Francis, on our way up to Grantown-on-Spey.  It didn't really effect us over night, but we found the site quite noisy with traffic during the day, as it's really close to the road network. Gave us chance to explore Glasgow a little, and we also drove over to Falkirk to see the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies (the Falkirk site was full for our dates)....

Two places I have on my list for short breaks...  Clumber Park and Lady Margaret's.  Hope we'll get there soon...

Here's something in our garden just now TDA, it's good to see nature still at work, a great comfort.

We had another PB win too...not quite enough to get us to sunnier climes but all gratefully received. wink

Friends told us they were off to the Caribbean (sandwiched between an Indian ocean trip and a visit to a Med Island.) I decided not to tell them we were off later on for a weekend dock side stay in the van.....laughing Each to their own I hope everyone will enjoy making new plans as the year progresses.

Coo, your bulbs are well on. 👍😁 Ours are barely coming through up here, even the snowdrops.

I am avoiding letting OH catch me looking at some holiday websites at the moment. Let’s just say there isn’t a caravan, a motorhome, a tent in sight🤣 I have a bucket list to attack, lots of history mainly. Once I convince him he can use his baggage allowance for a bike, we should be ok🤣

An early daff brue lovely the ones here are just shoots at the moment but some plants are showing life a bit early.  We had to empty a water butt yesterday as I forgot to put the lid on and as we had some warm weather recently it was full of mosquito larvae the butt was not full but will move it as it is not connected to any down pipes just a spare so it will be going next to a hedge that suffered a bit last summer so will connect to a leaky hose to help it this year as they are saying we are going to have a very dry year again lets hope they maybe wrong. Just had a short shower and none forecast until Saturday, no gardening here as quite chilly today and the ground is a bit sticky will wait until we get a dry spell I usually wait until February as weather a bit better. Some painting inside next week and will make a start in the next couple of weeks of redoing the curtains in the caravan just hate the ones in there now a shiny material and the wrong colour, so a chore that will keep me busy for a few days. Had a message from a friend that she is confine to the house as she has a stinking cold but not Covid thankfully and said she was bored hates being stuck inside so her OH must being looking after the 2 Donkeys which he is not too keen on.

We use Strathclyde Park on a regular basis it’s one of our regular weekend getaways throughout the year as it’s only an hours drive from home. You are right it can get noisy but that doesn’t really bother us and it’s not as bad as it used to be. Like you say it’s good for exploring the surrounding area and for a one night stop over on the way north or south

    Hope you get away soon

our new site directory arrived today in the post so reading through that and deciding on some potential destinations for this year all going well. Also still car hunting too we have pretty much decided on the Kia Sorento so now just to find a good one within budget

That’s Cornwall👍Amazing❤️ We used to have a week in a cottage at Bodinnick February time, I watched roses developing buds one time, and just love all the cowslips out. It’s warm here today, around 10c at the moment, and my roses are starting to put out shoots. I think they might be sorry though….🤣

We took our Christmas decorations down today which resulted in the usual tidying and cleaning afterwards. I also decided to reduce and rearrange some of the ornaments. The packed away decorations are now stored in the garage and not in the loft - so much easier. There is also a box of decorations that we haven't used for the past 4 or 5 years ready to go to Sue Ryder next Christmas.

Like others we have no plans to get away for a few months. We shall probably go to Norfolk again in June. Youngest son has just rung to say they are planning to come over next month, probably bringing the car this time. (hopefully he will take some of his stuff that was brought down from our loft this week wink)

I hope all those who have been under the weather are beginning to recover. So sorry to hear that your son and family's visit was cancelled again brue.

After a dull start we had a fine sunny day. Drove to Biddulph Gardens, where we had a walk around, but without Flyte as they have stopped dogs from entering  unfortunately. Some of the garden, including the Chinese  garden, was closed for refurbishment. Then went to Biddulph Grange Country Park, just up the road, where we had a good 1.5 hr walk around most of it.

We've taken our down today too.  A day earlier than usual, but Carol is off to see her mum tomorrow and I have three different meetings on at different times of the day, so we thought we'd better get it done while we have chance.

There has certainly be a bit of illness around this Christmas - I know several who have been poorly this year, so get well soon those who are under the weather.

Interestingly, there was about 30% face mask coverage in our local Tesco this morning, probably due to the demographic (mostly elderly). It was also mandatory at the hospital yesterday. I wonder if people have become more aware of catching colds and flu as a result of the pandemic.

Typical winter day, cold with bits of rain.

Very hard frost overnight but all melted away by the time I was ready to go out shopping.

I spoke to soon about feeling better, was fine yesterday but I have a niggly cough back again today, its sending me mad as I feel fine. Trying to get cold and flu remedies, cough syrup etc is not easy, most places are sold out. Finally got some bits and pieces after going to various shops.

We've been advised up here to wear face masks again in public places, I'm all for that but didn't see a single person wearing one today.

More hat knitting this afternoon, will soon have enough to put them for sale on our local FB page.

Lemon and honey TG, wink they were talking about alternative cold remedies on the BBC this morning...hope it goes away soon.

OH visits our local Co-op quite often and says masks are being worn. Our daughter has had a set back after her recent Covid, just hoping she picks up strength soon, she appeared to be ok at first.

We had a late breakfast at a garden centre today, something we never do as we've seen the amounts of food that appear on the plates and it always looks too much! Anyway we ploughed through a pile today and picked up some plants with the help of a garden token and tonight we didn't need much food.

Nellie a pity about your visit to Biddulph Grange, we went there before we had our latest dog, we knew it would be better on our own. It turned out we were nearly totally on our own, only about six visitors on a wet day! I was stunned by the gardens, the Chinese area is wonderful, all the better for having no-one around.
