Sorry to hear your bad news Millie, I can understand how you must feel as I also lost a good friend recently, funeral on Friday.
All the old bathroom stuff is now in the skip, though only half of the walls as yet as they are struggling to get through the tiles. All the drains are sealed up and the water and CH pipes capped so the water could be restored to the other bathrooms.
Interesting and quite surprising to see that there had been absolutely no leaks around the bath, so the system of sealant between bath and wall, then a special sealing strip going up behind the tiles and down over the bath to wall junction, finished off with more sealant after the tiles were in place, has worked well. We used the same method on all 3 baths, and the one in our en suite was similarly still watertight after 33 years.
Today the rest of the walls will go, the electrics will be done (5 new downlights to be fitted and the fan heater to be moved), then the new ceiling will be fitted. On Friday we may even have some new walls in place, and apparently the plasterer will come on Saturday morning to finish the ceiling.
It might then be dry enough by Monday evening for me to start painting it.

Never the less it was very apt. It reminded me of a report I had to do once, and thinking back it was over 20 years ago when people handwrote these things and someone typed them. I meant to say students from more affluent areas do better...

Hoodies are brilliant. 👍 If I walked over that bridge Nellie, then it’s odds on I would end up in the river🤣 We had hoped to get to Donna Nook this year. We did see the baby seals down at Godrevy a few years ago, but Donna Nook is just incredible. Such beautiful little creatures.
I can’t get into Christmas this year, mainly because of Mum being so poorly, but I’m not enjoying seeing all those laden tables on supermarket ads, and knowing that a good deal more folks will be struggling just to keep warm, and have a basic hot meal.

Our eldest daughter thought we might feel the cold this year, An enormous bundle arrived in the post, she had sent us two M&S fluffy faux fur hooded blankets. She chose the cream colour for both of us and we look like a couple of over fed polar bears.....they are warm though and the dog thinks they are excellent!

I have a lovely faux fur dressing gown, hardly worn it to be honest as it is so warm. It will get more use now though. We still do without heating overnight, I am more wary nowadays though because of OH. He feels the cold a lot more now than he used to do, probably a result of his chemo.

Having the heating on overnight is not something we have ever done, but we do have it set to come on about 45 minutes before we get up, and is usually on for around 2 hours. Then off until between 4 and 6pm, depending on how cold it is outside.
Then it is on until 10 or 10.30 pm, and usually stays acceptably warm in the sitting room till 1am. We also have a couple of blankets should we feel chilly, and last winter we invested in heated furry blankets , which are very good for keeping warm during the day, rather than turning the heating back on.
With the builders being here, and stuff being carted out and in the kitchen door, OH says the house is pretty cold right now, so she is sitting with her electric blanket full on, while I am at DD's looking after the children. She suffers from poor circulation and feels the cold badly.

K, your OH might benefit from something like this….
My OH gets the shivers from time to time, it’s sort of a body coping mechanism that tells him he is far too cold, and it can happen very suddenly. He was bought t something like the above, and it has really helped keep his core warm. Cheap to recharge, and great if you want to keep busy doing things, rather than wrapped in a blanket. He takes it away now with him, for late dog walks, etc…. Made a real difference.👍
JV, you can get heated socks as well, washable if you remove batteries.

That's what I like about the Hive system as it allows you plenty of options and I can also control the heating remotely when away from the house which is handy for when we are away.
I have read lots of Blogs about not leaving the heating on all the time but that doesn't cut the mustard with me. I am of the view that it is the temperature you set the heating at that will contribute mostly to you saving money, if you need to. I have set four time zones. Overnight it is set at 18 degrees and thus far this winter it has not triggered the heating. At 8.00am the heating is set at 19 degrees until 3.30pm. Apart from the initial warm up it doesn't come on a lot. Between 3.30 and 5.30pm it is set at 19.5 degrees just to give some extra warmth as Margaret is often reading or watching TV. At 5.30pm to 10.00 pm the temperature is set at 20 degrees for the evening. All those temperatures are set at a lower level than last year so it will be interesting compare when I get my next bill? We have been fortunate that October and November have both been milder than previous years.

Had the Hive system installed at Mum’s, and have to say very impressed. We are going to put it in at home. Not bothered about the fancy stuff like drawing curtains and controlling lights, but good for remotely controlling heating.

I have seen those mentioned a few places. She has a fleece body warmer which seems effective too, but her hands are nearly always cold. Used to be feet too, but they are easier to keep warm with socks, slippers or a blanket, so mainly OK when at home.
The heated blanket helps with the hands when sitting watching TV etc, so that will be good this winter.
We have had frost and fog today, which has not lifted at all, OH says our neighbour's grass has been white all day. Certainly not mild up here David!
We would find 18 degrees much too warm for sleeping, but prefer 21 for sitting in the evening. We use TRVs to set different temperatures in different rooms, and a programmable TRV in our en suite so it only comes on first thing and at bedtime.
Since we had the en suite renovated, it stays much warmer as I discovered and blocked up several gaps around pipes in the floor, and we put up an insulating window blind, which is very effective.
OH said it was the warmest room in the house this forenoon, having 2 doors between it and the freezing hallway, closely followed by the utility room.

I was invited out to lunch today by my old work colleagues, I have been retired for over ten years now so nice to still be invited. There were the usual moans but then they got on to the new computer system just installed. Apparently, the old system was much better, the new system has so many hiccups it’s almost unusable and wastes everyone’s time. Does this remind you of anything! So many memories brought up and so many laughs. Really enjoyed it, good to see everyone again. Don’t think that I would like the new Work from Home system though. Not how it used to be and I don’t hanker to go back now however much I used to enjoy it.

We've only had the hive since early February but like you we love it. Not only all the things you mentioned but it is far more accurate so if you set it at 20.5 degrees then that's where it will work at. On our old rotary clicky thermostat getting the heating to come on at 21 would mean circling past that till about 25! Looking at the bar chart on the computer shows that it does indeed stay at the set temperature with only plus or minus 0.5C. I also like how you can take the hive off the wall and into any room.
As to savings yes it's done that to as we got a reduction in our yearly gas bill even though we have not changed our heating times at all.

Mrs C's birthday today, she's 31 (not in base 10 though) and finally the kids have come through and treated us to a cream tea at the Hillwaite hotel in Windermere. Highly recommend if you're there in the future with (what would have been) great views and an excellent tea.

Very ‘white’ here this morning, first frost of the winter. 🥶 The heating has been on for an hour and the living room has only just reached 14, bedrooms are warmer. But the sun is out so it should all warm up soon. At least it’s not raining.

Still foggy here, several days of fog in fact. Farmer out hedge cutting so when the fog clears it will open our view for the winter sunsets. Waiting for our hedge man too so a noisy day ahead.

The start of a new venture for us. Some of our milk is going to a local cheesemaker to be made into a new cheese - "St Sunday's". It's early days yet, but it is on sale at Courtyard Dairy near Settle (and online). Look oput for it at other retailers - and not just up north, there will be regular deliveries around the country.

I love a good cheese Goldie, good luck with your new product. A cheesemonger has just opened up in Westbury Park, Bristol and we tried some very nice local cheddar from there last weekend (plus slivers of French Comte and Savoie)

A bit foggy early on but it has gradually cleared. Cold though. Had an appointment at lunchtime at surgery. Nearly missed it as surgery forgot to tell me about it and I found out fortuitously by switching on my mobile last night to "Hotspot" some wifi. There was an automatic SMS message made at 8.30 last night reminding me of it! Good job BT wifi let me down last night but I shan't be telling them that.
I hope Helen isn't too bad after her treatment yesterday. Best wishes go to her.

Nice to hear of all the outings from those away. Can't you all go to some boring places so I'm not so jealous?

Just a wander around Derwent Water and made a new friend. Great sunset from the loft room. Last few hours of peace and quiet before the youngsters arrive for the weekend.

Another happy Hive customer here. After we had our new boiler installed 2 years ago we just couldnt understand the instructions for the new thermostat. It was very complicated. DIL recomended Hive. We have had it a few months and are very happy with it. I am monitoring on my phone while we are here in N. Ireland. So lovely to be here with the family. Weather wet and cold but no fog.
The new cheese sounds great goldie What does it taste like? Is it a soft cheese?

It has been a busy day here, and it is not over yet!
Builders arrived just after 07.45, we were up! I think they must have some breakfast in their van first as it was after 8 before they appeared in the house.
I left here about 08.45 to get to my friend's funeral at 10.00, then went on to the memorial church service at 11.15. Home again by 12.30.
DD and the children came after nursery, around 13.30, we had Callum's favourite.....tomato soup....with crusty rolls.....followed by biscuits and cheese from our advent calendar gifted by our son.
DD was here till 16.30 and helped me with preparing bits and pieces for the craft fair tomorrow, plus I got to play with Nathan, who is much better today.
Tonight we need to pack up all the stuff for the craft fair, and get organised. Tomorrow we are expecting a plasterer at 08.30, then I need to be at DD's around 11, and after lunch we will head to the venue for 1pm.
OH will stay home till the plasterer is finished.
