So 1 night = £23.  Can't for the life of me remember what we paid in the late 70's, it'd be interesting if I could!  In those days with a tent we didn't have EHU, it was unheard of then! No H/S pitches then either, I do remember that wink

It is a minimum of a 2 nights stop, I think and prices are quite varied. Here's the link

Baking hot dust bowls don’t do it for me, we’re all wonderfully different👏🏻👏🏻

Just as we are on the Lakes it’s an area we love and being only a 3 hour tow from home we visit regularly we love Keswick and Ambleside some of our favourite places busy in the summer but great off season we were planning on going there this week but didn’t make it hopefully get there in the new year

Thanks David K, our DIL has worked throughout as she has other qualifications that have kept her going at the uni where she works.  But this next bit will give her a boost. Both son and DIL now employed at same uni, we sometimes get worried about what son does in science lab experiments! So yes the end of a long stint of extra work. They live too far away for us to offer much practical help with childcare etc.

So sorry to hear what a tough time you've had TDA, at least you all support each other and I hope you'll come out the other end with good things ahead.

Another fan of the Lakes here, the weather doesn't bother me too much I just like being there. Usually twice a year, any season.  Goldie is a great ambassador! smile

It’s not just the beauty of it but the sense of serenity & scale when in & around the area. I always feel dwarfed by it in a happy way👍🏻. The Highlands, Welsh hills, North Yorkshire & the Dales. . .I’m beginning to see a pattern🤔😊

This may sound daft to some but our favourite part of the M6 is when we hit your part of the Lakes Goldie and we take the "high road" north. smile

Full +1 there Rocky, especially when you go up and realise how lovely it is and how small we are. I definitely feel privileged on the tops. This is today's objective we might be lucky and miss the clouds.

What a stunning photograph is that one with the Herdwick Goldie. Absolutely highlights the beauty of the area, and it’s unique sheep. That would have been my Xmas card to friends had it been mine.👍

A very beautiful place, there’s no doubt about it. I was 12 years old when we went camping with school, early 1970’s. Twenty of us with three teachers and a dog! I think it was Low Wray we camped at, it had a big sort of wooden building with a kitchen, and dining tables. We ended up sleeping in there all together the weather was so bad. The tent I was sharing with three other girls didn’t have a sewn in groundsheet, was thick canvas, and we woke up with the tent full of water. We were doing volunteer work litter picking for the NT in between climbing the big hills, I don’t think I can recall being dry a single day, but we didn’t half have some fun. There was an aerial assault course strung between the trees and platforms we were let loose on as well. I do wonder if it didn’t have some sort of Army connection, but not sure. Second time I went to Lakes on an Education visit, I was doing a Management Diploma course, and we had the big house block of the Youth Hostel at Buttermere. We catered for ourselves, but stumbled down to the local pub in pitch darkness at night. It was so dark we used white tea towels held between us so no one got lost. Particularly on the way back up, we did get rather tipsy most nights🤣 Again, it was pouring down. I recall walking right round Lake Buttermere one evening in the rain with the only other course member who would venture out.

Baking hot dust bowls don't do it for me neither. Don't know why you would think they would.

I agree with you on those areas Rocky, I love them to, it's hard to put a finger on why the lakes don't do it for us but I think it's we find them to crowded. Much prefer the Highlands, close to home plenty of space and stunning whatever the weather. Good job we all like different areas.

I think the thing with the Lakes, like the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District, is that it depends why you visit. They all have their busy tourist spots (Ambleside, Grasmere, Skipton, Bakewell etc etc.) but make the effort to avoid those spots, get out walking in the open countryside and the only thing which draws your attention is the scenery and wildlife. Magic! smile

If that isn’t one of the most beautiful areas in the World then I can’t think what is. It is quite breathtaking, even more so in Autumn. The photographer has an excellent eye for a scene that speaks to the very soul👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻

We have just had an engineer tracing and fixing the fault with OHs stairlift he apologised for not contacting to say he was on his way but they have a new computer system that has more problems still to be rectified, than the system it replaced which worked fine

Where have we seen that ?

    Glad you've got it fixed!

Talking of new systems or web sites the National Trust have had a go with theirs (there must be an urge in the air  to change things) also British Gas. Can't say any of these things are an improvement just yet on the old systems...BG are very slowly getting there, have just managed to see our account today after a very long wait. wink

Great day and believe it or not these two photos were taken at the same time,  me and party on the summit and the summit as seen by Mrs C (who is sadly slightly incapacitated at the moment) from base camp.

Please, can't members leave the sniping at each other to other sections of CT and keep this one for friendly comments!!😖

It has been a fine day for us, but could well be freezing tonight. We had a steady drive through the Dales, avoiding the M6, to Clitheroe and a new site for us, Edisford Bridge, just up from the C&CC site. Will post a recommendation in the Small Site post, but can certainly say it is suiting us fine. Great views from our pitch of both Pendle Hill and the Castle. Hope to walk the Tolkien Trail tomorrow, all being well.

Agree with your first sentence, Nellie  even  so-called " Fun and Trivia " has its snipers !!

As for your projected walk tomorrow then  " Beware Trolls " might be the watch word

Enjoy yourselves but don't get eaten  wink

I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip Nellie. It sounds as though you have got off to a good start. I am off for my morning stint at the Cathedral shortly. I expect it will be a quieter morning now that the Luxmuralis light show has gone. We had a family outing there on Thursday evening and it was absolutely fabulous.

Lovely Millie, there's something about festive lights that lifts the spirits.

I grumbled on here about the cost of seeing the lights at Longleat but they now have twighlight tickets  a bit cheaper!

Cold and foggy here but it's probably needed to kill off garden "bugs."

The new site sounds good Nellie. smile

We did that walk from Hurst Green when we were there in April, Nellie. A lovely walk with a fabulous riverside stretch,  ideal for a picnic then, though might be a tad cold today. I risked taking Ralph across the narrow Cromwell bridge, just off the main walk, which was an interesting experience! smile

There's also a nice riverside walk from Sawley Bridge just up the road.

While you're in Clitheroe, don't forget its other main attraction - Cowman's Famous Sausage shop (early closing on Wednesdays!) wink
