So sorry to hear that you have had a stroke and been in hospital WN but glad to hear that you have been released as a result of your good behavour. It There is nothing like being in your own home and your own bed for making you feel better. It must have been a shock for you and your family and I send you every good wish for a good and speedy recovery.

Thank you one and all for your very kind wishes. They are appreciated.
Yes, DK and Millie it was a shock but fortunately both recognised what was happening (thank you FAST information posters) and the ambulance was able to get to hospital in time for the thrombolysis procedure, designed to help dissolve clots. Fortunately I wasn't counted as a clot!

I've had another extensive nights sleep so am beginning to feel more myself. MiL did mention this morning that she preferred yesterdays version.
Off to do some hand and arm exercises just now. Have another physio due this afternoon plus a visit from the Nellies as they are in the area. Busy day awaits.
Enjoy your day folks and never take it for granted. Give your loved ones an extra hug or kiss or make that phone call.

WN, sorry to hear what's happened and all my thoughts and prayers. If it's any help my brother suffered a similar event about a year and some months ago and he is now almost good as he was and it's certainly not stopped him going on holiday here and abroad.

I am very sorry to read your news WN, but so relieved for you that they got you to hospital so quick, the "Golden Hour". You sound very positive and I'm sure with the physio you're getting, and doing what they tell you
you'll be well on the road to recovery before long and planning your next trip.Agree - never take life for granted; we too found that out some years ago.
All the very best to you.

WN, so sorry to hear your news. That must have been a shock for all of you. Glad Mrs WN and MIL got you help and into hospital without delay. OH and I send you good wishes and a speedy recovery. It will be difficult I'm sure to have your wings clipped for awhile but I'm sure you will bounce back. Enjoy your visit with the Nellie's. 😊

It was great to visit the WNs this afternoon and spend some time with them before the physio arrived. We had a good chat and feel much better having seen and spoken to them. Just you take care now, WN, and I'm sure that it won't be that long before your thoughts will turn to devising plans for getting away again.
Our last night here before we head further north to our last site of this trip, where will meet up with our daughter and SIL, and catch up with their news.

So glad you managed to visit the WNs nellie. I am sure your visit helped to keep their spirits up.

I hope it did, Millie, but perhaps it depressed him and he was thankful when we departed.

Thanks to all concerned for the messages following my last post. Appreciated it.
Despite comments to the contrary I was more than pleased to see the Nellies. Lovely of them to have made the effort. Hope the onward trip goes well for them.
Yesterdays physio session went well but I find myself tiring late afternoon so they are going to try to make morning appointments for future. I have a speech session coming up in 10 minutes or so but having spoken to him yesterday on the phone we both think it will be a one off as speech improving markedly daily.
Finished my hand and arm exercises for today.
Mrs WN off for haircut and MiL also out for blood test and pick up new glasses so peace reins at the moment.
Enjoy your day folks.

Keep your spirits floating along WN, you sound like you are doing really well😁 Good to hear Mr and Mrs Nellie and Flyte Nellie got to say hello.
Unplanned fun and games here as well last Monday. Mum decided 2am was a good time to go walkabout, nothing my sister could do to persuade her back into bed. In the 20 seconds she was on the phone to me for help, bang, down went Mum. Couldn’t even fall onto carpet bless her, spent three hours on hard floor, three of us taking it in turns to support her, calm her, keep her warm. Another hour and half in ambulance on arrival, then into “a space” inside hospital. Xrayed, badly broken hip. All sorts of interim treatment, including a pain block, finally admitted onto a Ward at 4pm. We took it in turns to stay with her all through, until she went down for her op at 5pm on the Tuesday. Dementia and morphine not a good mix, but she was fairly quiet compared with some. Whole bay filled with ladies with broken hips, three (including Mum) with the same forename, so it had its darkly comic moments at times. Mum survived her op, not too many complications, but it’s going to be a long, long haul.
The NHS staff care throughout was simply wonderful. Kind, helpful people at all levels, all jobs just trying to do their best with such limited resources, understaffing, some are tired to dropping point. Huge reliance upon students (supervised) to do many tasks, but at least it’s comforting that there are still young people out there willing to become part of the NHS. It ought to be mandatory for MPs of all parties to spend time each year in a hospital, working with staff, listening to patients and families of ordinary working folks. NHS is a gem that has been left languishing at the bottom of a box, and needs to be given a thorough re polish and put back in the country’s crown now. Goodness knows where ordinary folks would be without it.

Sorry to hear about your unexpected stroke WN, so frightening for you but very glad to hear you are doing well now. Keep it up and look after yourself. Thinking of you as well TTDA, it takes me back to a similar time we had with my late Mum and I know what you mean about morphine and Dementia we had some weird conversations! Hoping all goes well for your Mum, and all of you, as you say it will be a long haul.
Thank heavens for our NHS and pray it can get all the help it needs, and it really needs some. We are so grateful for all the work our Doctors and nurses do.

Sorry to hear about your Mum Ttda, but glad she came through the op ok.
Agree 100% with your comments about the NHS. OH and I are both ex-NHS, things were bad enough at times then, but not like it is now. The staff who worked all through Covid, supporting those patients who were at the end of life and who weren't allowed visitors, deserve so much more than they get. I don't think most MPs have a clue what a working day consists of for hospital staff and agree with you that they should spend some time in a hospital, not just the odd visit here and there.
All the best for your Mum.

TDA So sorry to hear about your Mum. It is everyone's worst nightmare when they care for an elderly relative made even worse when they have dementia. I am pleased to hear that her op went well and I definitely agree with everything you say about the NHS. They are absolutely wonderful and need much more support in all areas. I hope your Mum's recovery goes well though as you say it will be a long haul. Sending you our very best wishes.

I so agree with your comments about the NHS when you see it at the coal face ,it is a miracle it still works and as when OH spent her time hospital if the students (unpaid) were not (2 on OHs ward every day except weekend when there was normally one the system would collapse and on several occasions the contractors cleaners were absent with the ward staff having to do it as also the drinks and meals rounds. All MPs and especially those on the "committee should do several shifts on the wards .
It is not helped by box ticking if you try to assist,🤔

Ttda, during my, thankfully, brief stint in hospital I couldn't have been treated any better by all of the staff employed by the NHS.
I got talking to one of the care assistants about agency staff. He told me that they tended to only work at night, mainly as nurses, because the pay was better. NHS nurses wanted to work nights as more money but that would have left them short of the requisite level during the day so they weren't allowed. Agency staff wouldn't work at day for that pay.
So rather than employing more nurses they were permanently paying agency staff. Barmy.
Care assistants were paid slightly less so they could work nights but at a reduced level. On a 6 person ward that I was put on the beginning 3 of the beds were considered as needing 1 to 1 care. There was only ever enough staff for 1 assistant to look after the 3 people. Plus look after the other 3 at times.
As far as I'm concerned they don't pay them nearly enough and the powers that be seem to know the price of everything but the value of nothing.
Best wishes to your mum and yourselves.

Thanks folks😁 Sis and me trying to keep our spirits up. On the plus side, we are both currently enjoying a full nights sleep, but it’s hard leaving her.
She’s never been in hospital before, only her second ever ride in an ambulance. Last night was escapee night, patients all trying to climb out of bed, all zonked out during day, too tired to do anything. I kept our Clockwork Bunny chatting, looking at photos, talking, eating, drinking, for four hours, hoping she might now sleep at night. Life is far too interesting and stimulating for them to sleep at night😬 what is rather nice is that visitors are all looking out for each other’s loved ones, having a bit of a chat, helping with just little bits of kindness.

Glad to read that your mum got through her operation ok, tda. Fingers crossed that her recovery is a smooth one, and not too stressful for you or your sis. Our best wishes to you all.

We moved up into Lancashire today, to a CL that we've used before but it was quite a while ago although it has changed little in the intervening years. Slow journey through the Croft Interchange and beyond due to an earlier accident, but it didn't delay us overmuch. Went out for a very enjoyable meal this evening with daughter and SIL. I can thoroughly recommend The Clog and Billycock for anyone staying in the Blackburn area.

Tomorrow we have to take the motorhome into the dealer for a couple of jobs including a poorly painted panel on the cab. Because they need it for a week or two it has scuppered us going away in November but we have got something booked for December. A trip to Chatsworth, £29.50 to get into the House for the Christmas show this year!
Had a test drive for what will be the new car today. Technology certainly seems to have moved on in the six years we have had our current car! We were allowed to take it out on our own which was a surprise, apparently something they started during COVID. So in some ways I was flying blind with the controls like the gears which rather than being the usual stick is now a wheel.

We've just gone throught the process of buying a new car. The nearest nearly new car that I could get to the spec I wanted was £3000 more than a new one, and still needed a tow bar fitting, so I've ordered new with whistles and bells and just had to accept the 7 month lead time. Some manufacturers are quoting up to 2 years!
I've ordered diesel, and plan to keep it for 10 years. I'm not convinced on electric for towing yet, and am wondering if Hydrgen will have an impact over the next few years
