What are you all up to

As I mentioned in an earlier post we took the motorhome into the dealers today for some work. One of our sons arranged to pick us up and then take us to a Garden Centre which was new to us called the Beckworth Emporium, near Earls Barton in Northamptonshire. It has a nice restaurant where we had coffee. Interesting how many Garden Centres are going over to table service. Interesting place generally with high end food stuffs and butchery and also high end gifts. From how crowded it was and how many people were buying things little evidence from what I could see of a shortage of cash!!!!
Later this afternoon our other son came over to show us his new EV. We had a little ride in it, so quiet and also very nippy. He only got it today so is still learning how it all works..

Yesterday's sun on Tewkesbury Abbey and part of our walk on the battle trail towards "the arrival" where the embattled sides in the Wars of the Roses lined themselves for the final major confrontation. Their remains are in the Abbey, the footsoldiers lie in the fields. Such an atmospheric place, similar to Battle Abbey.

We had a problem with the power pack on OHs wheelchair yesterday as it kept loosing power (not good for me pushing) rang dealership owner was quite concerned and said he would try and get a replacement controller in the post to this site, hoping it was the problem immediately spoke to site manager who was also concerned
It arrived by post, this morning to the site , and now fitted (now stopped raining) seems it was the problem

One of my favourite UK places. So full of history. Never stayed on Club Site, but we have stayed in Travelodge a few times. Lovely photo brue👍

So good to hear that 'Patients' are obeying their Medics (
) and steadily improving as well as JVB getting good service from the wheelchair dealership.Almost makes certain [ very minor ] ailments seem tolerable

Come along, you can forgive me now, cos the fireworks are over

Lucky you ABM. Fireworks are still going strong here ☹🎆. Our poor little rescue cat that we brought home this week is terrified and hiding under the chest of drawers.

Just ensure, MillieH, that the poor wee thing gets lots of fuss and cuddles as befits its nature !! I don't enjoy fireworks much, the noisy ones not at all ~~ Alas I can't get under the C o D !!
{ And even if I did I would need serious muscle power to stand me up again

David it was the same the other day when we went to Cheshire Oaks, and again last night in the pub/eating house, although one of the staff said that it wasn't as busy as other Friday night's lately, but it was certainly doing well, and not just with those eating either. I think that those that have the cash are making the most of it while they can.

Millie, sorry to hear of the plight of your new cat, and hope that she isn't too frighten after they stop, but I would expect tomorrow night to be nearly as bad, unfortunately. Flyte didn't use to be bothered by the noise but even be has been restless tonight, although he has settled down now, and I just hope that there are no big bangs when we venture out in 30 mins or so.
It has been a very wet day here although we did manage a couple of dry walks between the heavy prolonged showers. Our daughter came round at lunchtime, bringing a carriage nearly full of different chocolates for us that she has collected on her travels, from Iceland to Spain via Poland and the Balkans. That should keep us well supplied through to the New Year if we are not too greedy.😁

Life plods on here. Ups and downs. Mandatory 4 year TB test last week. All stock over 6 weeks tested - all OK.Phew!
Yesterday we went up to Rheged, especially to see the Forty Farms Exhibition. Some outstanding photographs by Amy Bateman. We were one of the farms so some prints now have red dots (i.e. sold). We can collect in January, then w ehave to find a spacee to hang them.
Photo of OH admiring our some exhibits. Zoom in to see him hedging and all of us posing as a family.

The exhibition looks good Goldie, I tried to see the prints on line but maybe I missed something? I zoomed in, so could see yours more clearly. One day we'll get inside the Rheged centre, it's often just a fuel stop but always looks interesting. (It's a fuel stop mainly because of the price drop after motorway prices which reached £2.07 this time but dropped a bit on the way back!)
Hope your new cat is doing better today Millie, nice to have a new family member! 🐈
Talking about family outings and spending money we get Longleat adverts and the Festival of Light ( which looks brilliant this year) is a mere £44+ per adult, hoping they might do a cheaper entrance later. Can't really justify that for a lot of clever LEDs!
Our street will be doing one for free if the electricity bills don't put us off first....0 -
Brue
You post makes me feel slightly better as we are booked to go to Chatsworth and to get into the House is only £29.50 each. Having said that when we went to Longleat some years ago the Light Show was really good. They also had a Chinese Circus which was interesting and probably a bit scary for little ones!

Not a bad couple of days here. Mixed weather yesterday, but mainly dry and even some sun.
DD and the little ones came up for lunch, so we had their favourite......tomato soup......with sandwiches and toasted hot cross buns.....OH had found a pack of them hiding in the freezer! She toasted them in the new air fryer, which worked very well.
Later DD helped me prepare for this craft fair next weekend, and took lots of photos for the new facebook page she has apparently set up for me, to hopefully sell a few more items.
We had continual noise outside from about 6pm onwards last night, seems many people have plenty of money to burn around here! It did however stop around 10.30 pm.
Today we are invited for dinner at DD's, I believe they have a beef joint they are doing in the slow cooker, hopefully there will be roast potatoes and yorkshire puds too.
While we are there I need to find some sturdy boxes in her garage loft, for packing up the turned items, and I believe we are to be transporting her old tumble drier to her MIL, in our car. It is still in good working order, so good that someone will be able to make use of it.
Just been over to Lidl for some milk etc, but there was no marmalade. I did however get a new laminator, our old one went crazy a while back.
Milk is up another 10p on 2 litres, butter up by 20p on 500g, and orange juice and Gouda cheese slices have shot up too.
At least the sun is now shining.

Yes thank you, but the nearest Aldi to FM is about 4mile away whereas there is a Tesco express less than a mile I can walk to with to with OH in her wheel chair with less problems getting her in the PVC. and as we are now here for an extra five days so needed my "fix"

Well life throws up curved balls. Sorry to read posts from Wherenext and Takethedogalong regarding human health. May those concerned make full recovery's.
And milliehull's cat hiding. Hopefully out from under the chest of drawers now and plenty of loving and cuddles.
We have been lucky with fireworks, occasional bangs but nothing to disturb humans or dogs in our house. Organised events last night about 3 miles away in one direction and tonight about 5 miles in the other direction.
We are naked now 😉😱. All house and garage walls are either empty or climbers well trimmed to see their fate after next season. The, many lives, climbinging hydrangea finally came down on Friday following a dramatic week!
Dora at the out of hours vet last few mintues of Halloween 🎃 . No real answers but suspected allegric reaction. Started mid evening and required a sedative and steriod injection. She seemed better but took her to our vet Thursday who said her ears still pinker than she'd like, no infection as were here eyes, so more steroids and general flea and worming stuff ££££'s. No idea of cause, but up for her walks etc again thankfully.
Meanwhile had cause to wonder about marks on the wall, thought toilet cistern overflow. Wasn't - so finally got round to proper look Tuesday. Long story short BLOCKED foul drain spent long time trying to get manhole up, had to call in help. Plumber came to help, beyond him and said it certainly predates our arrival. Local drain cleaning company solved the issue within their 1st hour so charge not as bad as feared. but 2 days of our life we won't get back, fortunately we were able to use bathroom and kitchen which have drains away from that blockage.
Our guttering etc being replaced Wednesday onwards, was hoping for respite before new soffit/fasicas, all marked from climbers out of control but had guttering cleaned as we guessed they'd not been 🤐. First rains, we've had lots lately, surprise surprise we have terrific water features - they'd been badly repaired. Hadn't realised replacing soffit was a major job!
So never a dull moment here, hoping to get to choosing paint colours EVENTUALLY. Still love the house thankfully.
Yesterday was OH birthday so brief family vist, they had other side family big birthday lunch, folks from Lancashire and Cornwell converging, so just us for afternoon tea, and today we have our small family dinner 😃
Must get ready!

A cheeky late Halloween post
On the up side one of my cactus is settling very well.
Our current village post box topper. They have changed regularly in the 6 months we've been here, and are excellent everytime.

They're about £1500 one way and probably a few quid more if you want a lifejacket. Mind you, Triky may have his own.

Wet weather is often a problem with these type of things JVB. Our granddaughter has a front motorised 5th wheel which she can attach to her wheelchair. It’s a brilliant helpful device, American, which we were fortunate enough to purchase second hand here, they are so expensive. I really don’t know why someone over here can’t make them, so useful and clever, she can really scoot around with it. However, she recently came home to visit her family but on getting off the train on arriving back at Uni it was pouring down. The wheelchair couldn’t get up the hill in the rain and, with suitcase and backpack she couldn’t push herself. No taxi prepared to take it (which is disgraceful) luckily a friend lives near the station so she helped her push back to her accommodation. We were worried thinking the rain had broken it but, (touch wood) it seemed ok when dried out. Always a worry though cos so rare and expensive.
She has just rung me to ask how I make my roasties so crispy - semolina - it seems ten of them are cooking a roast and she is in charge of potatoes. Seems a few Nans and Mums have received calls for ‘tips’ , wonder how this roast will turn out.

Weather is horrible here today, finished indoor jobs, so just catching up with things.
Sorry to read your news Wherenext, wishing you all the best for a speedy recovery. Same goes for your Mum TTDA.
We haven't been up to much, heard from the Oncologist that after further tests I won't need chemo, just 3 weeks of radiotherapy so have a scan, on Tuesday then they will plan my dates and times. It will mean travelling to the Churchill in Oxford 16 times, about 800 mls, think we will have to plant a few tree's to offset the carbon emissions! 😯😯😯
Pleased you still love your new house Bakers2 the walls certainly look different 🙂
Millie hope your new cat has recovered and come out from under the cupboard now. Luckily Bodie isn't worried by the fireworks as it was certainly loud last night.🎆
JVB I can also recommend Aldi's choccy digestives. 😉
Safe travels to all those away.

The photographs aren’t online. Some wil be on Amy Bateman’s website. But the majority are in the book Forty Farms. But seeing them blown up and displayed professionally makes a huge difference.

Gosh Brue, Longleat's lights tickets are expensive I thought £35 Inc parking for the display at Blenheim Palace was a lot of money. Mind you some of their dates are already sold out.

Thank you Brue, I'am just hoping the appointment times don't co inside with rush hour in & out of Oxford the trip can take an hour on a good run. 🙁
