JVB good to hear the hip replacement is done, I hope there is a good recovery period and things can settle down a little.
Lovely to hear everyone’s holiday news and see some great photos. I love wild garlic. Sadly my clematis are not doing so well this year.
We seem to have been very busy at home this last week. Starting last Saturday with a dash to daughters, who was taking a short break, to help with granddaughter who was suddenly ill, fortunately she managed without a hospital visit this time. Then this week middle granddaughter was staying with us. Despite all my good intentions to NOT pot up too many bedding plants I unfortunately caught the bug again this year, I really just can’t help it something just takes over and my fingers itch to do it, maybe I could get a vaccine for it next year! Anyway we now have pots all over the garden and hanging baskets with little plants in, which will need watering all summer! Well I say that but, at present, we have plenty in the butts, over the last week, while others seem to have had sunshine, we have had plenty of rain in Devon, and thick cloud and raining again now.

Yet another Covid Vaccine probably to become available this autumn for Elderly etc people so they may be able to drop a quantity of pot-plant-proofer into a sample just for you DEBSC and those similarly affected { ?? Afflicted ??}

It is quite scary that businesses can know so much about people. As many on here know from my posts, we put our house on the market received an offer but we couldn’t find anywhere so decided to stay, however, I have never told many who know us or posted this anywhere else.
This mornings post consisted of 2 estate agents letters offering to value our house - no thanks we were happy with the previous estate agent - now that I can understand. But then, 3 advertisements letters from national soft furniture sellers and someone who sells blinds, welcoming us to our new home and do we want to furnish it with their goods! They obviously think the sale went through but how did they know we did intend to move!

Had a good day yesterday with our friends who we saw in Cornwall and now in a gite in the Dordogne on a site they used to stay on with their caravan and hoping to get down again in September but having trouble getting the sailing they want as they live not far from Portsmouth as all dog cabins are all booked so will see what happens, but a lovely meal lunchtime thankfully under shade overlooking the castle at Castelnaud next to the river Dordogne, a lot of brits about with UK reg cars and walking about, a few on the campsite overlooking the Beynac Castle, was a bit cooler on the way up as our friends had a little rain we did not but much warmer on return trip.
Hope all goes well for your OH JVB.
Glad folks are enjoying their breaks
We have a hot forecast for the weekend upto 36C to hot for this time of year and then a few days of cooler weather so more gardening to tackle then.
Found out from 1 friend that another friend as tripped over and broken her wrist and not a happy bunny as no pain but frustrated as to what she can do and her OH having to do all chores and he is no cook says that is a female chore but he is coping quite well and she cannot drive anywhere, the cast comes off beginning of next month, will pop over and seen how she is.
Just put some more washing out and as I came back up some steps something started to move in one of the long troughs I thought it might be a snake but just tapped the side of the container with laundry basket and a large green lizard shot out phew ok with them not seen one here for about 4 years now under some large stones.

Arrived on site, naturally it was raining as we crossed the border at Carter Bar but hazy cloudy sunshine and warm now. Site almost full already just a few pitches left.
A circus is just outside the site so at least there'll be free music while we sit out tonight!

Well we managed to get up early enough thanks to a very persistent and close Woodpecker drilling through a tree by the sound of it at just gone 6 this morning. So off we went in plenty of time to catch a ferry ring over to one of the Wadden Sea Islands, Schiermonnikoog (Grey Monks Island - presumably due to the colour of their habits rather than any skin or personality affliction!).
The 9.30 sailing was heaving, which was rather disconcerting for us being around so many people. fortunately we were able to sit outside in the fresh air for the 45 minute journey. Took our bikes over with us and had a good wander over the whole island or as much of it as were allowed to. Warm weather without a lot of direct sun. Very enjoyable to be doing something different.
Caught a mid afternoon ferry back and arrived home in time to unpack in the dry before the rain set in.
Lovely seeing your Garlic photos Helen. I love the smell of it and it's very good in cooking. The best we've seen is in the woods as you walk from the train station in Grange-over-Sands up to the top of town. At this time of year it's just one big mass of Wild Garlic.

Sorry to hear that you won't be getting your share of Wedding Cake tomorrow , Goldie, it might turn up as a slice of " Queen's Celebratory Cake " tho' -- you'll be amazed at the things these Newly-Weds Get up to these days
Noooooo Don't answer that

Melrose has changed since our last visit pre pandemic, all the banks have gone (one is now a cafe) but most of all there is an ebike shop and Thai restaurant/takeaway.
There was actually a queue to get in, there was a queue of Scots, Welsh, German, Italian, English, French, Swiss, Dutch, Spanish, Austrian, men waiting but they wouldn't be let in without a tie.
Actually that last paragraph is not true but there is a Thai restaurant.
Speaking of which on the road up here I counted serveral (when I started counting I got to 11) 'over there' cars, motorbikes and two motor homes.
Everyone enjoy their weekend.
The circus has started rehearsal.

Well, the flight was very straightforward as was entering France, no-one at immigration was at all interested in the PLF which I'd so cleverly (for me
) downloaded onto my phone, straight onto the coach and off to the boat for a welcome meeting and dinner.Out for a pre-breakfast walk along the quayside in Lyon this morning, and it's a fascinating area with a lot of industrial history, until recently the main dock but now being gentrified with a swish shopping centre (closed at 6:30am
), upmarket apartments and colourful "cubes" ( there's a green one just along from this orange one). Then a whistle-stop tour of the city before sailing north for Chalon and Beaune tomorrow.Just getting ready for the cocktail reception and "welcome" dinner now. 🍸🍹

Forgot to say on earlier post that whilst sitting outside our friends gite a low loader came down the track by their gite and started to remove over the next few hours 5 very old and stripped out UK caravans the owner trying to clean up the storage area and 1 was an very old twin axle, also the site has made the decision not to accept any twin axle caravans on site from this year, the is Le Deux Vallees near Beynac just in case anybody was thinking of staying there in the future.
Great photos folks glad I am not on that site Cornersteady as I do not like circuses only went once when 9 yearsl old and hated it, my poor mum thought I would like it so never went again.

Solo today, OH sat in the van and I climbed up to Hadrian's Wall at Housesteads. Lovely up on the wall, very quiet too. The last time I visited this section was with my sister and our five young children, push chairs and baby carriers walking from a makeshift car park in a field. Things have improved but I don't know how we did it!
Good to read about everyone's days at home or away.
Hope it's not too noisy at the circus Corners, we've been on rallies in Exmouth, twice with the circus next door, two performances a day!! We're going again this year but at a different time.
(No animals but lots of scary acrobatics.) Love seeing the "big top" all lit up 1 -
Bit of a nice co-incidence Brue as OH was chatting to her mother today and she (MiL) mentioned that very same walk as she did it last year when we hired a cottage in the NE.
She was wondering whether she could do it again (she is 89). We're quite sure she could. She doesn't seem to be missing us a great deal judging from how much she is out and about. Nice to be missed eh??😂

Firstly JVB, I seem to have missed a few post so hope all goes well for your OH, all the very best to you both.
The morning started a bit damp so we went into Coleford, they have a very good bakery and we needed some bread 🍞. The town has now lost its one and only bank, there is still a couple of ATM 's for cash.
The weather brightened up this afternoon so we had a walk through Cyril Hart Arboretum and down to Speech House Lake. We took it slowly as Bodie who is now coning up to 14 finds the mind willing on walks but his body is slowing down.
Spotted the purple Morris Minor 1 million in the car park, apparently they only made 350 at the time so not many left now.

Pleasant day with rain showers after 4:30, but fine again now. Bit of food shopping then drove into Dumfries and had a walk through Dock Park and Castledykes before lunch and then around The Crichton in the afternoon. Some beautiful Azaleas and Rhodedendrons in all 3 areas, and the lady who was responsible for The Crichton.

We received the good news today that the Queen has bestowed City status on Milton Keynes. Everyone in MK has always referred to it as a City but nice to have it officially confirmed.

I appreciate that it is something else to cope with for your OH but hopefully the full hip replacement will be much more stable and help her back to a more normal life. It must have been terrible for her to have it dislocate so often. I had my right hip replaced 12 years ago and its been really good, especially considering the pain I was in before. I wish her luck with her recovery.

JVB, Hope that your OH's hip operation is a complete success and that it enables her to get around much more freely. All the best for her recovery.
Tda, if you get a chance you should pop up to Dumfries and have a wander around The Crichton and down to Castledykes. There is plenty of parking space up at Crichton and would be ideal for the chariot. It's just a pity that the church is only open on a Thursday as it must be magnificent inside of the outside is anything to go by. It certainly sounds as if you have found great overnight stops. Are Kippford and Rockcliffe on you places to visit, both definitely worth seeing especially the latter.
Good days out for the WNs, brue and H&T reading the posts.
Nice photos of Lyon and Moffet, two very different holiday locations. Hope both the Moulesys and CS have grand holidays.

Another update ,had a phone call from OH at 0435 yesterday Friday ,very confused ,saying she could not sleep and night staff would not let her have a drink?
Phoned ward direct to see what was going on ,and the reply was she was asleep each time they checked? I said she had used the call button but no one had been? they would check and call me back if there was any problems no call received?
When I arrived day shift checked notes and nothing recorded again
Spoke to ward manager ,so will see this morning what the answers are
Surgeon came to check on her and was satisfied with things so far
About an hour later two of the in house inquisition arrived (Physio) and said she needed to start to mobile is her hip ,when I spoke to them they thought her op was Thursday morning? not pm as actual ,but tried and failed to get anywhere ,they left a note on the message board that she was to be mobalised to sit in the chair daily, with two nursing staff in attendance
When I asked if they would be giving physio Sat and Sunday, they said only skeletal staff at weekends they would see her on Monday

Another complaint has gone in

Will see how she is this morning?

Keep your phone call logs JVB. Sorry to hear things haven't been good. I would expect the nursing staff to follow the physio instructions over the weekend.
Just replying to WN about his MIL getting up to Hadrian's Wall at such as a great age as I found it hard work yesterday! (I think there are lower and easier spots to reach it.
)What does city status bring to MK David, are there any special benefits?
Seeing son and family over the weekend plus the menagerie and bouncy whippet!

Brue
I think to the citizens of MK it is just the confirmation they have wanted for many years that MK is a different sort of place and should be recognised as such. It was designed to be and on the scale of a "new" City and it is only now has that has been recognised.

We've had a fabulous day today! The boat sailed overnight and we woke up moored in Chalon-sur-Saone which is now quite an industrialised city but has an ancient quarter right around the quayside. So that was my pre-breakfast walk today, 2 cathedrals, a square with some very attractive timbered building (including a cafe called "Monsieur Moustache", a tower with absolutely no apparent purpose and a statue of a French bloke claiming to have invented photography (though I think Mr Fox-Talbot of Lacock might have a word or two to say about that!
)1 -
Then a short coach journey to Beaune, ostensibly for wine tasting! But it was market day and there were a staggering number of stalls selling all manner of fresh and preserved fruits, vegetables, meats, olives etc as well as plenty of clothes and general stuff.

The highlight of the day was a visit to the Hotel-Dieu, the "Palace for the poor". A beautiful building with colourful tiled roofs and displays of the former pharmacy and kitchens. (I did ask, in French, if there was a discount for over 65s but was told, very politely "non, monsieur"!
)The boat has now turned round and we're heading south, back through Lyon to tomorrow's destination Vienne. It's baking hot and shade is at a premium on deck, they can't put the canopies up because there are so many low bridges on this stretch of the river.

You should have asked if there was a discount for the poor Moulesy. Lovely place Beaunne.
We strolled into the lovely town of Dokkum this morning for bits and pieces after Mrs WN had done the washing and hung it out on a warm but breezy day. We chanced upon a few cars that were heading for a rally so the photos are for the car enthusiasts. The red car is an NSU, which was nostalgic for Mrs WN as her father once owned one, not this model though. Too small for a family.
There was a sign in English which made us laugh and it was peculiar in that there doesn't seem to be any English apart from us around. Obviously touting for our business.
The other photo is of the 2 "Pods" on site which we thought would make a good house for someone like Bilbo Baggins. Bit on the small side for your average Nedelander.

I remember when we first visited Les Baux de Provence and wanted to see the embattlements on the roof of the village, which for those that do not know the place, is built into a rock face. Anyway I asked the person taking the money if there was a surcharge for being English. She laughed and said there wasn't but there was one for the Parisiennes which many of the people queueing behind us agreed with whole heartedly. Plus ça change.

Lovely photos moulesy. France has some beautiful towns. The photos of the market brought back some lovely memories of the summers we spent over there. We loved going round their markets. You certainly sound as though you had a good day.
Loved your photos as well WN especially the ones of the rather small pods 😁. They were rather pretty though.

After a cloudy and cool morning it turned into a lovely sunny and warm afternoon so we went for a walk round our local nature reseve. There was a froth of cow parsley but possibly not quite as good as previous years. No sign of the swans or cygnets but lots of ducks and ducklings. They wouldnt pose for a photo though.
