Milliehull thank you. My birthdays not until Saturday, sorry should have put that in my last post! My friend and I have birthdays one week apart. We often 'did' something together, My most lovely one to recall is the orchids at Kew. These days with various caring duties we grab a few hour when we can.
I think the chiropractor could be your best present. Enjoy lunch in Stamford. Where are you going? I'm getting ideas for whenever we arrive 🤞🤞. We like the George in Stamford

I'm also not a fan of Asda - but then, I'm not a fan of any of the supermarkets. However, we do have a fairly good selection here. We usually stop at Aldi on the way, and anything we can't get at Aldi we pick up at Asda, Sainsbury's or Morrisons. Carol usually goes in for the shopping and I 'dog sit' in the car 😀😀... I do sometimes go in but usually try and leave it until Christmas, when my preference is to go at night when there are few folk about. As they are usually filling up shelves at this time, and it is much easier to commandeer a personal shopper, by using the words... 'where may I find.....? 🤣🤣 Of course, I haven't a clue where anything is apart from the wine aisle....

Talking supermarkets. We have decided that it is about time we went back to doing our regular weekly shop in person. We have just had our regular weekly Waitrose delivery and now have a two week break when we will venture into the shop at on previous regular day and time. We decided to book a delivery for half term week as its likely to be busy. Difficult to believe that we have now had deliveries for getting on for two years!!!

We have had exactly the same conversation here David. We have our son and family staying with us for a few months from early March and have been thinking it’s going to be tough trying to on line shop for 4 adults and a 3 year old, all with different tastes I’m sure. We haven’t been into a supermarket in 2 years but I do know many who have now ventured into shopping in person again and they have been ok. Just hope there is still mask wearing!

Just hope there is still mask wearing!
In ASDA yesterday I thought there was a distinct lack of mask wearing, maybe only 50%? I have higher hopes for Waitrose

It will be interesting if you find yourselves spending more by going in to do a shop?
Funnily enough we were only recently talking about that. I think that since the very first lock down we have tended to make sure we are fully stocked for the week ahead, and maybe a bit more, as we wanted to avoid shortages and the need to keep going out to the minimum. Remember toilet rolls and bread flour!!!! In the past halcyon days without a care in the world we would just shop for what we needed knowing we could nip to a shop to top up at anytime. The trouble with shopping online is that you can't shop from the service counters so what you buy is more generic items. Once back in the shop we will be tempted by the fresh meat and fish counters which might put the bill up. Where we have really saved money shopping from home is that when shopping in person we would usually stop for a coffee and pastry in the cafe so if you add up all those £6/7 every week which we have saved for nearly two years so we should be in pocket!!!

DK "let us know how you get on" to use that well worn phrase!
Our Waitrose is quite small and the coffee area isn't very tempting, more so since the specilaity cakes were removed a while ago. Our daughter lives within walking distance and she gets the food bargains there, so someone in the family is doing well out of it! 0 -
This week has all been about online deliveries -
My husband’s Birthday present (IPad ).
16 kg Bread flour from Shipton Mill.
Padded bag for new caravan television.
Meat and pies from Cranstons at Penrith
Toilet Rolls from Who Gives A Crap
And lastly 6 bottles of English Fizz from Chapel Down.
I wouldn’t have wanted to carry all that home.
But the normal weekly shop is in person at Booths. So I can pick my own fresh food, and buy Coffee Renoir cream cakes for a treat.

Happy belated birthday Millie, and Happy birthday for Saturday Bakers.
We went back to Tesco shopping in person some time ago, I really don’t like others picking my shopping, sell by dates too close and veg not always what I would chose. However I do stick to Tesco store cos I know where everything is and can scoot round on my one way system. I’m a lady with a trolley on a mission! In other stores I would have to be up and down too many aisles looking for items. The only issue I have is the store Pickers who stand chatting and calling to each other and generally getting in the way, but I know they have a job to do.
The ‘For Sale Board’ went up today. It seemed to interest the neighbours, Ive seen two little groups chatting and looking over at it. Then the chap down the road stopped his car to check it as he drove by. Well we have been here many, many years. Might be here more of them if we can’t find anything to buy.

I have done both kinds of shop this week. A masked whip round Aldi, for all the staples and things we like from there, a good experience as few in, shelves well stocked, and I filled a trolley for under £100. Probably around 150 items. Admittedly, no meat or booze, but then that’s by choice. Plenty of fish and seafood though. Then decided to do Waitrose online. 29 items, again no meat or booze, that came to £75. I wouldn’t like to be filling a trolley at Waitrose like I do at Aldi. The fruit and veg is just as fresh and nice, although admittedly not as many varieties of each item.
Lovely afternoon out today, drive through Midhopestones and Strines area, back via Fox Valley Retail Park to pick up one item. Morning spent clearing one of Mum’s cupboards. Three full bin bags of stuff to sort out, some for recycling, some to make car covers for MG in garage.

Not managed to catch up with all posts, but Happy Birthday to Millie and Bakers2 🎂🥳🍾 Trevor had his birthday a couple of weeks ago, and we ventured out to our local pub for a meal, something we haven't done for a long time. We had a voucher for 20% off so we thought we'd make use of it.
We were up in Manchester last weekend, visiting youngest son, lovely to catch up with them.
Re shopping we still visited the supermarket once a week all through the pandemic. We have always shopped early, just after opening, we often almost had the shop to ourselves apart from the staff.
Hoping to collect the caravan from storage at the weekend, it will need a wash, and we can reload it ready for the first trip away since October.

For most of our working lives Margaret and I have worked the same hours, in the same place, but different areas. When I first retired and went back part time for the first time in my working life I didn't work Saturdays but Margaret did. I would take her to work for 8.00am and then take the car over to Waitrose and was often waiting for the doors to open at 8.30am. As much as I can see the logic of shopping early and envy those that can, my body clock no longer wants me to be up and out early, save for the odd medical appointment or when we are going away in the motorhome.

Over the whole of the pandemic, we've had a couple of online deliveries primarily due to the problem of getting slots. Did a Sainsburys shop at the beginning of the week and mask wearing was virtually universal. We try to pick times when it isn't too busy, usually late afternoon mid-week.

Another grey and chilly day here. Dentist this morning for me, OH coming along too to do some food shopping.
Phone call from DD while we were having breakfast....were we busy this afternoon? So now we have 3 guests for lunch. Callum was missing me as he didn't see me yesterday, he has got too used to seeing us frequently while Mummy was off work.
She started back at work, from home, on Tuesday, mornings only this week, some full days next week and the week after, then back to full time.
Nathan has finally decided he is going to start crawling, while also learning to walk, so spent yesterday afternoon trying to crawl to some handy bit of furniture, pulling himself up, and shuffling along while holding on. He gets very frustrated when it does not go well!

Don’t mention dentists to me😱 I have my appointment at hospital next week for my wisdom tooth out. COVID test first Monday, then isolate until Thursday, then the dreaded deed. It will not be the highlight of my year😕

I sympathise with you TDA, I had to have a wisdom tooth removed in hospital, Covid has added to the build up. At least it's being done so no more problems (I had a van holiday ruined by a wisdom tooth infection.)
Nice to hear your grandson's are doing well Kj.
We were out last night at our garden club meeting, the last one was cancelled due to Covid. An enthusiastic speaker about Fuschias. Years ago I took a cutting from a hedgerow in the Lakes, a white Fuschia called Hawkshead, it turned into a complete garden thug and OH dug it out!

We were supposed to going out tonight - Merry Hell gig at Morecambe, but it’s been cancelled (Covid in the band), so I will be mostly playing music loudly while drinking Gin.
All is not lost however as tomorrow night it’s Police Dog Hogan at Settle. Two of our favourite bands the same weekend was probably too much to ask for.

I was booked in for a crown, but had meantime lost a big old filling from a different tooth a couple of weeks back. Dentist declared not enough tooth left to repair or crown, so promptly extracted it.
2 new appointments now made for the crown procedure. I seem to have spent a lot of time at the dentist in the last year 🙁

Thank you all for your kind birthday wishes. I had a lovely day yesterday. My greatest and oldest friend popped round first thing with a card and present (before yet another hospital visit for another scan for her OH) and then OH and I went off to Stamford. We had a wander round the shops (that was a novelty, I realised that I had forgotten how to browse and shop. I kept wondering what I had gone in for!). Not as many people about as there used to be by any means. We then had a very enjoyable lunch and then came home so that I could go to the chiropractor. She worked her magic and although it still feels a bit tender it is much better and I actually had a good nights sleep last night. Eldest son and family came round in the evening and youngest son and daughter rang so all in all a very good day.
Bakers2, yes The George is wonderful, especially at Christmas when they have their decorations up. It is well worth a visit even if just for coffee or afternoon tea. The William Cecil is also extremely good. We have eaten there on occasion with friends. We had lunch in The Cosy Club in the centre of town.
Regarding supermarket shopping: I just wish I could leave OH at home and go on my own. He keeps going off and coming back with things that are not on the list which puts the bill up. I have noticed that my bill is going up week by week and I am going to have to be more careful in future. Yes Waitrose is a lovely shop but not for a full weekly shop for me. Just for the odd few things. We are Aldi shoppers in the main.

OH frequently goes off shopping and leaves me at home......something to do with me being an impulse buyer?
On the way to the dentist, I dropped her off at Waitrose as she had some offers in the new reward scheme......50p off your choice of 2 out of 6 offers. As it was something we buy frequently, she decided to shop, but was apparently very underwhelmed by the result!
It transpired the 50p off only applied to one item of the thing selected, not all the items the same that you bought, so her total saving was only £1.
As she said....better than nothing!
Shop was fairly busy but not crowded.
I went back to pick her up after dentist and pharmacy collection, and arrived just as she was finished, so that was good.
Snow on and off all day, very cold, but fortunately wet snow and melting quickly.
DD and children arrived for lunch about 13.25......sandwiches and coffee followed by hot cross buns from the freezer. Callum had a great time looking at all the things in our sitting room, and various other rooms, as Mummy said.......our house is not set up for small children! I followed him around and restrained him as necessary.
They went off home just before 17.00, after DD had inspected my efforts in the garage, moved a few things for me, and declared it OK for bringing home some of my big machinery currently in her garage.
We will go down to her tomorrow and SIL will load up the car for me. And hopefully come up here to assist with the unloading.

We have made it back home after our 46 night trip. Easy drive across from the Dales, battery on van lasted long enough to get it sited on it's spot at the house, thankfully. OH got 4 lots of washing done and most of it dried out on the fresh air, while I cleared out the van and took Flyte for his walks. Must admit that I couldn't face cleaning the car or van this afternoon, might start tomorrow should the rain/snow hold off.
I too have a dental visit next week as I had a nagging ache while we were away, and was able to book an appointment last week.
Hope all goes well with the rest and isolation, tda. To pass an hour or so and you've not watched the film "The Thirteen Tale", with a young Olivia Coleman, OH recommends it as there are many interesting locations used, one in particular that you will know!!😁
Happy birthday for tomorrow, B2. Hope you have as good a day millie appears to have had yesterday.
Enjoy your concert tomorrow, Goldie, just a shame that you couldn't get to see Merry Hell, I've been listening to a couple of their albums these last few weeks. Did you try to get tickets for any of the Martin Simpson concerts? I know that he is touring at the moment.

After my visit to the scrapyard on Wednesday it was the turn of the Council Dump this afternoon. It was the first time I had used the new system where you book a slot in advance. It seemed to work quite well and certainly less busy compared to when it was a free for all.
I can now see the back of the garage. I seemed to have acquired a large amount of cardboard from various deliveries over the last year! I also decide to throw away a few items that I had previously thought I would sell on. Amongst them was a set of Roof Bars and feet that were perfectly usable but I just wanted rid of them as they have gather dust for the past ten years!!!

I don't think that these masks are all they are cracked up to be !!
I was gently passing thro' the check-out at M & S on Wednesday this week with a reasonable shop and when getting the Card out to pay I was tapped on my shoulder by a passing gentleman ! I coughed, spluttered, paid the bill & looked to see who the 'eck it was . And got the shock of my week ( if not my life
)It turned out to be one of the very first Apprentices I had had under my wings, oh so many years ago , and who had left my region of the Company shortly afterwards so he's been out of my life for at least forty [ 40 ] years. There we were fully masked up, fully shopped up, and I was at best at 90 degrees to him, but still HE RECOGNISED ME !! Now if my mug shot is recognisable under those conditions, then how the bejazers can they be expected to keep tiny little virussiz controlled.
Any sensible answers to N H S , c/o P.C.E purchasing, Downing Street please

Have you looked into whether you have a Freecycle group in your area, or a local facebook page where items can be given away? Or even sold.
We are in 2 freecycle groups and have got several items for DD after she moved into this present, much bigger house....2 leather sofas and a chair, a small fridge, several good bookcases, 2 cot beds, and various childrens toys.
She has given away 2 divan beds and several wardrobes. Also sold various light fittings locally. The local group is also a good place to find people giving away surplus plants come spring.
And there are always charity shops that are glad of nearly new items, some even take furniture and electricals.
