Awful news or your friends Millie. Life can very very tough at times, kind regards.

Our new shower unit arrived yesterday, base and cubicle. All “we” have to do now, is fit it. I am using the royal “we” there, OH has a master plan I think. I shall just do as I am told, and supply tea!

Had a really interesting meet up with a cousin a few days ago. We decided to get Mum and her remaining SIL together for a couple of hours chat, it’s so so long since they have seen each other, and everyone concerned has been COVID free, tested and super careful, so we went for it. Sad in some ways, both elderly ladies in the past were super talented in the crafts area, knitting, sewing, quilting, and my Aunt has had paintings exhibited in London galleries, but the pair of them can’t remember much of it now, and neither could raise a brush or a needle. Many skills passed on, but our generation isn’t as gifted as they were. My cousin has another interest though, and one Sis and Me want to get involved in. He is a metal detectorist, belongs to a Club. He brought some of his finds to show us, and they were fabulous. Earliest included Celtic, Saxon, Roman pieces. Stand out finds are a near perfect Edward I silver coin, an Henry III silver coin and a medieval silver strap end. So interesting. We took his ping machine around Mum’s garden, and got some pings. Expecting it to look like the Somme if my Sister finds the spade!😂 We might go halves on a detector, good ones don’t come cheap.

Thanks for your kind thoughts. I took some flowers to my oldest and best friend this morning and had a coffee with her and her OH. We had a few tears but also a lot of laughter. We have all known each other from school.

I hope you and your OH are enjoying the lovely sunshine JVB. When is your first trip out in your LV?

What a lovely get together for your Mum TDA. Such a lovely idea. Such a shame that all those wonderful skills from that generation are not always being passed on. Good luck with the metal detector. Let us know what you find.

Hope your OH's dental appointment went well Bakers2. Smart Meters 🤔. Hope that goes well also.

OH had filling, all fine, thanks Milliehull.

Smart or dumb meter. Guy arrived 1340 finally left 1630. Had no electric, apart from when we all had a cuppa, most of that time. Dinner will be late, as I hadn't expected that! He's not sure it will continue to work, but has shown me how to read it for our final reading, so I can check it. Apparently if we'd kept the plug-in monitor plugged in, using electric and telling me what I know that the kettle draws big!, we might have known it wasn't working. It hasn't worked since long before Christmas. Our last bill was estimated in early December causing me to ask questions. They were only fitted last July.  New unit fitted which may last longer! What a waste of time, resources etc. We may get a pleasant surprise or nasty shock, I haven't any idea, with our use charged. They certainly whacked up our DD this month. Ordinarily I'd have investigated further but other things on my mind and I hope we'd have a final reading and settle either way....... I've left the monitor plugged in but if it gets on my nerves ill put it back in the cupboard......

Hope everyone else has had a decent day? The sun came out about 2pm here and I couldn't enjoy it!

Milliehull tears and laughter are good. My mum lost her close school friend when they were 82, but two of the girls she started work with at 16 are still with us at 91.

Takethedogalong what a lovely meet up.

Spoke to friend up the road a little while ago. Her birthday last Sunday week, lovely family get together excluding the Somerset daughter and family - all tested negative. Youngest, 7 years, granddaughter came home from school on the Monday with a note covid in school, every child to  test before going back in - positive and still is now. Luckily no one else so far 🤞 as her dad has had had kidney transplant! Apparently her Somerset daughter, teacher, has it now rife in their school. Another friend's grandson similar in a different part of the county. Its still out there take care folks.

Daughter in NZ got pinged, following supermarket visit. She's had her 3rd jab so fingers crossed.

NZ news says they have omicron with a different variant, can't find the article immediately so can't give link.

Hope your daughter hasn't been infected, B2. We have smart meters but the gas one doesn't work. We changed suppliers last year and I've yet to be in contact with them about sorting them out. I just read the normal meters and email the latest totals.

Nice meet up for your mum and her SIL, tda. Sounds like an interesting day all round.

Sorry to hear your news, millie. Things can be really tough at times.

Just heard that SIL's elderly parents have had a fall and his mother is in hospital with a fractured pelvis, a chest infection and is waiting for a cancer scan. His dad is fine but has advanced dementia and needs constant care, which is being shared between SIL and his brother.

Chilly, cloudy day, although the temperate was showing as 9C it felt much cooler than that due to the wind. Moved onto our latest CL today, one that we have not previously used.  Had a walk from the site after lunch down to Sawley Abbey, which we had also not visited before.

Thanks Nelliethehooker I hope she's not either for obvious reasons, but next week they return to school following their long summer holidays. I hope that they aren't going to suffer teacher shortages because of infections. Not so contained over there now.  🥲

Gosh 2022 isn't starting well for several families 🥲. I heard before Christmas of my friends younger sister's diagnosis  - today it seems its only a matter of time, I'm having trouble getting my head around that! Life isn't going to be easy for your SIL's family.

We found Sawley Abbey a bit by accident a couple of years ago Nellie, after a very lovely drive through Forest of Bowland area. Seems ages ago now, we were up at Seat House in their holiday cottage, just before the first lockdown. Sad news about your SILs Mum, hope she picks up. Hard work for your daughter and SIL☹️

We have commenced work in bathroom on new shower. Not going to be straightforward by any means, but we don’t need it desperately so can take our time, and do things in stages. The perils of an old house😯 We aren’t doing the whole bathroom, so having to work carefully around existing fittings and tiling. Of course the new drain point for the shower is right over a floor joist😡 Hey ho, fun and games.

The whole country is red light embarassed, different meaning there!

Eldest granddaughter, 8 in March will have to where a mask when they return to school next week, not sure on whether it'll be all day. Daughter has 2nd teacher only day Thursday, starting any mo I expect 🤣, which will be on covid so might know more when I wake. Yesterday was first aid and overran but girls with a friend, Thursday is holiday camp, again eldest to wear mask and apparently she's not happy.

Groups can meet vaccinated, (daughter just had her booster and the girls currently 5  & 7 had the vaccine on the same day) up to 100, unvaccinated 25 or 30 without checking. Yep PM postponed her wedding, she's had a tough run, elected as she was pregnant, birth followed by pandemic 😱 but I think she's great! The BBC had an awful photo of her with the story 😱, but she says it makes her no different from hundreds of others. Such difference in leader attitudes 😉

Of course autumn is coming so who knows when it turns cooler - for them 😉

Booked MOT for car today, not due until end of March, 1st date available 11 February. Will sacrifice a few weeks to be able to walk home from the dealer whilst job done. Just in case we get a moving date it will save looking for a dealer/garage and more than likely needing transport on top of sorting things out or a panic to get it done!

A frustrating day today.   We had Smart  Meter installation for both gas and electricity  booked for today between 13.00 and 17.00, after much harassment by our supplier.  We have delayed a long time as original Smart      Meters had problems with solar panels, but the Smets 2 ones are OK.

Call from fitter to say he was delayed, would come at 17.10.  OH, who had gone to DD's , said no way, how would she make dinner, plus it would be cold and dark, so I was in the doghouse for having agreed!

He eventually arrived at 17.18 and announced it would take 1 1/2 to 2 hours, OH came racing downstairs to say this was unacceptable as we would have no heating and no food, but before she could berate the fitter, he had looked at our meters, which are in lockable boxes on the outside of the house wall, and said he could not do anything as it was raining (though only a very little).  He is not allowed to do outside electrical  stuff in the rain.....just what do they expect in January in west of Scotland!?   Especially as they had asked,  and been told, where the meters were.

Apparently it was not originally his assigned appointment, so he had not been given all the info.  So now we have to rebook......we will not be rushing to do that until sometime like  late July.

Today our 12 month fixed prices ended, so we are now looking at a big increase, and another come April.  Not good!

Did lateral flow tests this morning......all OK.....as the nursery informed DD yesterday that a child in Callum's room had tested positive, though fortunately had not been at nursery since Friday.  Both Callum and Nathan, who has just started nursery, have  colds again, so DD was worried.

Nathan will be 1 year old on Monday......that year has flown by......so DD is having a small party on Saturday, just us and the other grandparents, plus 2 aunties, so the last thing we need are positive LFTs.

He is desperate to be walking, just wants to hold hands , pull himself up and stagger around the room, but has been reluctant to crawl.  However he is starting to get the right idea and now tries to reach the toys he wants.  I think the slippery laminate flooring is making it tricky, he does much better on the rugs.

I still have not been able to do any work on our en suite, hoping to start next week, but OH is well advanced with the planning of the revamp of the upstairs bathroom and is now starting to order things, we are having a complete change, only the big old mirror will be staying.  But before that, we need a new, more efficient boiler, so the bathroom is a while away yet.

Good to be well prepared, B2. Hope that the car sails through it's MOT.

Fingers crossed that the shower gets fitted ok, Tda. Our daughter is down in London working this week. We will find out more tomorrow when she phones. I think the stay in hospital could be a longish one. Fortunately they moved into a small bungalow close to  our daughters house early last year from a house that had very steep stairs.

Had an appalling afternoon yesterday ~~ after return from Aged Sisters I had a foul coughing fit, ending up with a very sore throat so imbibed plenty of warm milky drinks  and the relevant pain killer pills before a fairly early and l~o~o~o~n~g sleep. Finally arose in time to self medicate before sorting out my lunch today.  At about 4 pm I was disturbed (!) by my Friendly neighbour to see if I was OK  'cos he had visited twice before & could not get my attention !!  All ok thereafter, Hot evening meal & warm drinks plus pills followed by another nap.  Woke, again,  to the gentle dulcet tones of  Fred Dibnah (  remember him ?)  ambling round a couple of East Anglian Cathedrals, but could not see MillieH innocent and now I'm off to bed -- Please don't ring my doorbell, thank you  wink

Oh brue, shows that we do ALL need to take sensible precautions,  thoughts are with him and the family.

Yes made it to the solicitors, left in plenty of time, but still a queue towards the Army and Navy roundabout - one lane closed on our approach and ?men? working on the part time traffic lights. They're (the lights not the workers) a danger in themselves!! Possibly this along with the school finishing time issue was our problem Tuesday. Still arrived 15 minutes early which is how I like it. Paperwork signed asking for completion ASAP but not my birthday 🤣🤣 highly unlikely as its next week or grandson's 1st birthday late March. Not that we'd turn down completion if it was the case. And despite being in a large building and room we are wore masks throughout. Our solicitor has had covid since Christmas and is still feeling tired. Actually I'm now feeling really calm about it all now, hopefully that'll be how it stays 😆

So sorry to hear about  your nephew brue. I do hope he avoids hospital and recovers soon. Glad you made it to the solicitors this time bakers2 and hope exchange is sooner rather than later.

A bit mixed weather today, although it's been mainly fine and sunny at times, but there was a strong chilly wind blowing high up. We had a tour over to Slaidburn where we went for a couple of walks. It's nice to see a village not affected visually by modernity. The oldest dated property we spotted was built in 1677, and even the "new" village hall has been converted from a previous Methodist Chapel.

Nice sunny day here, OH was doing the washing using the power from the roof, and no heating was  needed to be turned on during the day.  We are now going round switching off every possible light!!

I may go out tomorrow with DD and the little ones to Callum's favourite tractor place.......a farming museum in East Kilbride.
