Good things and bad things from this dratted / lovely wind !!
Neighbours wooden double gate flapping like a politician over night ~~ Bad Thing

Two bird feeders ~~ The sort with domes covering ~~ blown from their positions ~~ Bad thing

While attempting to sort out the problems I noticed a blooming SPARROWHAWK perched on one of the feeder posts ~~ good thing and bad thing !!

Good to see that the birds were staying away from Cafe ABM but great to get a close-up of
Accipiter Nisus at rest ~~ they normally fly past at BirdMach plenty with eating irons at the fore !!
Sadly the 'close-up' wasn't with a camera, just my own eyes & recently cleaned specs

Lovely day here weather wise, and only a little wind overnight.
Not so good on the health front. I am a little better, other than that my head hurts badly when I cough, OH had a bad night but I think she is just a tiny bit better since lunch time.....not that we had any lunch. Neither of us is feeling like eating at present, but trying to at least keep hydrated.
I have a dental appointment on Tuesday, but if I am not considerably better by Monday, I think I will alter that. Pretty sure the dentist would not appreciate me coming to see him with this cough!

Windy over night, last night, and a little snow this morning. Sorry if any folk have had really bad storms. And now we have the new South African Covd variant and the tightening of restrictions. Not a good news day. Keep safe everyone.

Slight relief on the variant found in Essex, Essex County Council advise the case is in Brentwood not Chelmsford. Still too close for comfort but not my town and 12 miles away.
Wind picking up here now, howling down the chimney at times, not too bad by others description.
Hope those feeling under the weather are improving.
I've taken paracetamol as I have a bit of an odd feeling in my head and ears. No sniggering at the back

Very interesting Goldie, and what a marvellous lifetime mission your family are involved in👏👏👏
We are always sad to see semi urban gardens without hedges (Ruddy Ground Force has a lot to answer for!) Most of the borders that split our row of 12 houses are thankfully mixed hedging, and the sparrow population, along with lots of other small song birds are thriving. It really does make a difference for them.

2001 for me but my intention is the same as your's JV.

Hope those that are not feeling too well at the moment are soon back to full/normal health, and that B2s don't suffer from their boosters.

We watched the programme about Alan Hull last night as well (OH's namesake so we had to!). Wonderful programme. We remember Lindisfarne well.
I have been shopping to Rushden Lakes with our daughter and eldest grand-daughter today with a very nice lunch out. We were lucky with the weather which although it was cold and windy it had stopped raining by the time we arrived. The wind has been nowhere near as bad as other areas thankfully.
I hope all those feeling poorly feel better soon.

Finally caught up with folks news on here.
Hope all those with colds and other things WN, are feeling a little better soon.
We arrived safe and sound, hotel in Glasgow was good, flight good and we got the apartment we wanted. Weather was overcast yesterday with the occasional light shower. Today back to blue skies and light clouds. Nice walk this morning along the sea front, they have rebuilt and changed a good bit of the prom, looking very nice. Folk out on the beach and in the sea, all looking very clean. Some shops and restaurants sadly have not survived. However there are some new ones opened up since our last visit.
Haven't heard anything from home so can only assume things are alright. I know they have had a few trees down just outside the village, so hoping ours are still intact. I bet all the leaves are now off the silver birches.
Stay safe everyone it's not over yet.
21c here today

So glad your journey went well and that you got there safely TG. I hope the rest of your holiday goes well. You are a bit warmer than here! I am not at all envious 😁

Off to bed with a hot lemon drink and a bag of Jakemans for me😂 Nice end to day though....my sister has had her first sale on her Etsy site, so fingers crossed there’s a steady uptake now. It only went live Thursday, so that’s not bad really.

My ambition as well. Seven years to go.

Spoke to soon about the wind. It was very windy overnight and lots of pots, chairs etc in the garden blown over but no major damage thankfully.
Hope you have had no nasty reaction after your booster Bakers2 and hope you have recovered from your food poisening WN.

A very cold but sunny day yesterday with snow in the tops. Today it's snowing quite well

One of my favourite strolling spots Corners, Hope to be there again next year. Would like to see the little dog statue in Hope Park.
Well now, how are we all today?! Hope some are feeling better. (a variation on an Orkney greeting.
)Will look at Goldie's link later, just off for a walk, very cold but nice sunshine.
We have Fieldfares in our garden, eating the apples, nice to see them.

“St Agnes eve, ah bitter chill it was , the owl for all his feathers was a’ old.
The hare limped trembling through the frozen grass and silent was the flock in woolly fold.”
We didn’t see an owl or a hare but the sheep weren’t saying owt this morning.
We haven’t been our usual walk these last couple of days but when we get snow we can walk round the full perimeter of the local golf course without getting hit by golf balls. We walked one way round yesterday and retraced our steps today.
As I write it’s snowing again and forecast to last for the next four or five hours.
Along with thousands of other people we were without power for 13 hours yesterday, luckily although the central heating went off and we had no broadband we have a dual fuel cooker and a gas stove in the fireplace so it wasn’t too bad3 -
Slow start this morning, but it's beautiful if chilly and tge breeze isn't helping. Dora and I had a great walk and it's not a complaint but it was hard to see walking towards the low sun even in sunglasses. Just the sort if winter's day I like.
So far so good with booster, just muzzy head and ears which paracetamol seems to have sorted.
Finished grandson's advent calendar yesterday. I always forget how time consuming and fiddly they are to make, but I'm very pleased with the result 😀. The pockets are very tiny tiny and really can only take a coin. Daughter has a bag with the granddaughter's treats, unless it's a coin or hair bobble type thing. I always supply the funds for the items - not sure about this year, money has gone out but shopping restrictions have been in place for weeks. Coins might be difficult, they are way ahead of us on cashless and I understand the tooth fairy might have to resort to IOU's as cash is totally discouraged at the moment and ATM's don't give out coins so makes it VERY expensive 😱. Managed to include the Kiwi connection in the advent calendar, the reverse is the last of my NZ material purchases - need another visit! Appropriate really as the tree is one my favourites, pōhutukawa, referred to as NZ Christmas tree which is common and flowers at Christmas 🎄, and Tui, also known as a priest bird, who sings wonderfully. Not sure THIS does it justice, but it gives a flavour. Its also the base of a beer!
Hope those feeling under the weather improve soon.
Interesting read Goldie, the new arrangements for stewardship are interesting I understand having had a very brief chat with DIL, she has to dig a metre down and metre square and count worms - how do you pick the 'right' Square??
Hope those without power are restored soon, never pleasant as so much relies on electric these days! My mum was ever prepared, her power went often for some reason, torches wherever she rested, chair, bed and toilets a small camping gas stove and a very effective butane heater. The latter she struggled to move and light but neighbours were good and joined her if it was a prolonged outage! That's being a war child she always said, taught us to be prepared too. Friend who lives in a remote-ish village in all electric, including getting their water, isn't so prepared 😤

Beautiful Bakers, such a lot of work and no doubt lovingly done. Must be hard at times having loved ones so far away.
It’s snowing heavily here, and settling. I do love snow, but only if it’s not inconvenient and loved ones are safe. We have our heating and cooking requirements in more than one basket thankfully. Mum taught us well how to make the best of most situations. I am currently just sat struggling to breathe through this blasted cold.

I retired at 42, from my first career - so I'm well in front, pension-wise on that one. A few years yet to do to achieve it on the second career pension!

Your efforts look lovely Bakers2, I'm sure they'll be treasured down the years.
Having lived with power cuts in many places we try to be prepared. But prolonged cuts are very miserable and cold. Hope Goldie is warmer today, I enjoyed reading the rspb link. We have a reasonable amount of hedging around the local fields but I see new households arriving and fencing goes up in place of boundary hedges.. A few places look like stockades when they've finished.

We had a nice walk in the sunshine this morning and we're going to have a late lunch with our daughter and see the new roof.
Just heard my new glasses will be in next week, I'm never really happy with new glasses but at least I'll see more clearly!

I finished my first career at 45. But only had my work pension a short while. And a way to go to my State Pension. Concentrating on surviving to get it at the moment🤨 🤧🤒
