What are you all up to

It is indeed CY😁 Thanks for reviewing it. We like it, arrived at dusk last night, it took some finding, but I think that was partly us coming into the village the wrong way. Set up at bottom of field now, on a bit of HS next to the canal. The views are stunning, up towards Avebury, great watching all the canal traffic. It’s a lovely day here today, OH has mended my bike, he’s off to take a look at Caen Hill Locks on his bike, the pooch and I are chilling out in the sunshine.
We had a good drive up from Somerset, via A303 mainly, not busy at all. Stopped off at Sparkford, Haynes Museum. Fabulous vehicles, really enjoyed it. We drove past Stonehenge, and to be honest, we were both very underwhelmed. Sure it’s got more of a “Wow Factor” close up, but we haven’t bothered to go back to take a look. We shall stop off at Avebury area instead.
Brue,I waved as we went past turning for Montacute😁👋

After 3 days in the Alps we are now in Orange.
The Alps were beautifully stunning. Great weather, really hot during the day but cooler at night for sleeping.
We took a drive to Chamonix and past Mt Blanc on the way down here, very impressed. Lots of snow still up on the mountain and as you drive past you can see the glacier coming down the side, it almost touches the houses.
We have come to a site that we have used before and usually very popular especially with the Dutch. Not this year, we had the pick of pitches as the site was almost empty. Why the change? The site is not in ACSI for this year. What a difference it makes, price is up a few euros but nothing to much.
We have had a thunderstorm today with some showers on and off, temps dropped a bit but its still clammy.
Moving on again tomorrow to Agde area, we like it there, hope its not changed. Then we might work our way to Spain
still have 5 weeks left and as Redkite said forecast here in France is not great.3 -
Glad you are having a good time Tammy, must be nice to get overseas again for you. Sounds an interesting trip.
Have enjoyed reading about the doings of others, we are on a no hook up Site, no wifi so limited postings, but good to see photos from others of holidays and events. I will try and post a few more of ours when I get chance.Grand very basic CL this, possibly the most basic we have ever used, but we (literally) have acres of space, views are magnificent, and it’s so interesting just being on our chosen spot. (There are no pitches, you simply choose a few metres of space😂) Canal is busy, we are right by a small wooden swing bridge, that allows a footpath to cross. Just had a Hercules transporter wheeling around overhead, kites and buzzards around. Lovely sunset at the moment......😁

Glad everyone away is having such a good time (apart from the odd mishap 😅). We have had a busy week as things are beginning to 'open up' so some of the various groups we belong to are up and running again. It's great to see people again, especially their new (longer) hairstyles. 😁. We spent the weekend doing a lot of clearing out and cutting back in the garden which looks a lot better, especially after yesterday's heavy rain. Our water butts are now full again. Although we had a lot of rain it was no where near a bad as some areas thankfully. Today has been very pleasant with a lot of warm sunshine. We are off to the Norfolk coast for a few day at the end of the month.

Cheers TDA, not sure I'm enjoying so much at this moment. We are having a horrendous thunderstorm been going on for the last hour.
Heavy rain to start with, that appears to have past now but the thunder and lightening are still bouncing around. We rarely get storms at home and when we do I love them. The fact that we live high above the river means there is no worry of flooding for us. Here is all flat not a hill in sight to run to 😂😂😂 hope it stops soon, spoke to soon rain back on

I haven’t fallen in the canal(yet!) Millie😂 Not sure what our garden will look like after 3 weeks away. Been red hot some days at home, and I expect the hedges will be in dire need of sorting. I have more plants to take home, dropped on a smashing roadside Musa Basjoo (Banana Palm) for sale on Lizard, small enough to over Winter indoors at the moment. MH bathroom looks like a Botanical garden when we are travelling😂

Had a wonderful day today.
Cycled from Blandford Forum to Sturminster Newton and back in glorious weather through stunningly beautiful countryside of Dorset. Stopped off at Shillingstone Railway platform for a cuppa. There is a bit of restoration work going on there and we were lucky as the cafe is only open weekends and Wednesday.
On the way home we called in at Athelhampton House for an hour. Beautiful place. The Rose garden was smelling wonderful. Think we may get back there as it's close to the CL on Friday as Mrs WN has spotted a place or two that she feels needs drawing. Some photos, hopefully enclosed as wifi still not very good. Found a spot near the roof to Hotspot from. The cafe is very nice there too.

Glad to hear of others travels and escapades. Looks like both Tammy and Ttda could do with some waterings soon.

That looks lovely WN. Is it Private, HHA or NT?

Wherenext I loved Athelhampton House and if I recall correctly the chuch opposite is now Greek Orthodox. Wonderful icons. Well worth a look if you get the chance.
I do hope my memory is correct, and I'd be glad if you can confirm 😉. Our motorhome diaries 'are packed' 🤣🤣. Not sure why now......
Actually yesterday I went out and bought some new bed linen and duvet, so much necessary spending has been on hold I bit the bullet. Washed it and am looking forward to sleeping under them tonight.
Delighted to read of others 'doings' lovely photos and some folks scrub up really well 😉 and hats setting outfits off 😀. Please keep the storms to yourselves I HATE them...... Our water butt's have not run dry at all this year, they did get low once. Can't remember them being like this before, usually we'll down by May onwards, often I fill from the water supply and allow to settle for potted plants rather than use the hose.

It has been a lovely warm sunny day after the early morning must had burnt off. Drove round Chew Valley Reservoir via Stanton Drew to visit the stone circles, which are not as impressive as anticipated, considering the largest of them is supposed to be the 3rd biggest in the country. Stopped off at Chew Stoke for a walk by the reservoir and at Herons Green to view the waterbirds.

Sounds like folks are having a good time whilst away, NTH I remember doing a butterfly survey at Velvet Bottom reserve a few ago.
RK there were not many butterflies about but we did see a large patch of these.

Welcome to the beautiful beginning of another Autumnal day-have a great one.

Thanks RK, Mother Nature is being greedy with her weather I’m afraid, she’s not giving all the UK good weather just parts, a few days ago we had rain then mist(although that was nice) & the West coast had sun🤷🏻♂️

TDA, not sure if you have a refillable but Catleys Gas Centre on the A361 on the way into Devizes is a mile or so away.

It's the start of the cider apple season here, we've only got a few trees but they produce a lot. Ours got pruned last year but one of them, called Stoke Red, has gone into overdrive.
Someone gave us a couple of bottles of local Burrow Hill cider last weekend and we had some with a meal last night. Just a mixed one but it was nice.

Do any of you get Countryside magazine?
If so, you'll see a photo of our cows on the front cover, and an article about the way we farm, inside.
Or, you can read the article online, and see some of the photos by clicking the link!

As Brue said, a very enjoyable read Goldie.
Went to Abbotsbury as planned and walked up onto the ridge to the fort/castle. Such a beautiful day for being up high, well, slightly elevated in this case. We enjoyed the walking so much that we decided to walk back the same way rather than tackle Chesil Beach. Saw some Swallows setting off out to sea. Plenty feeding up and waiting to go.
The village is as lovely as we remember. We'd parked the car in the Sub Tropical gardens C.P. so walked back through the village to get up onto the ridge. Then returned to the Gardens in the afternoon for a walk around them. Not a great deal in bloom but interesting nonetheless.
I'll have a look in the church if we go tomorrow Bakers. Thanks for the heads up. Hope you are keeping your spirits up.
Have a fancy for a walk up "Sticky Bottom" tomorrow. (Durdle Door and Lulworth way)

It is actually called Meadow Saffron but I think many do call it autumn crocus.

Know where you fancy going for walk tomorrow WN have done it a few times in the past but I know it as Scratchy Bottom always made me laugh, enjoy your walk.
No walk here today as we had another thunderstorm this afternoon after having a very foggy morning, did manage a walk yesterday afternoon my usual down the road and into a local field to find still a lot of butterflies about even after the awful storm the other night, at least it was dry and quite warm where as today it did not get above 20C very autumnal.
Off to have a coffee with a friend in our local small town as we will not be able to meet next Friday as they are finally going away now she has sorted who has the animals 2 donkeys 1 dog and 1 cat, they are going down to the cathar counrty area for a week 1st Holiday in 2 years.

Last nights thunderstorm hung around for over 3 hours. Thankfully the rain eased off and we had no more overnight. I've never seen a sky go so black as it did last night.
Got up this morning and drove down to the med, decided on autoroute so we could get here before the lunch time closure. The site we like the best isn't open this year, don't know why. So we are on our second favourite which is next door. Madame has put us on a Grand comfort pitch, only paying the normal Acsi price though
could get 2 outfits on here its that big. It was a cloudy start to the day but not long after we arrived here the sun started to make an appearance and we had a decent afternoon. Went for a short bike ride to the coast and along part of the front. Lots of places closed up shops, cafes, holiday homes, quite sad to see it. Plenty of folk about and this site is full, quite a few MHs parking up by the river, seems to be mostly french on this site, though we have seen 3 other brit vans here.
Good to hear others are enjoying there time away.
Glad to hear your bike is fixed TDA, I always worry about things like that happening when we are out on ours.
WN, you sound like you are having a great trip.

Thanks CY. We only use cylinders, but still keep an eye out for LPG stations as we have had LPG vehicles in the past. Really enjoyed Courts Farm, very basic, but the views and space alone make it very attractive. I bet you didn’t know that the farm is Crown Property, so a big thanks to HM Queen😁 Never seen such a busy canal, the refuelling barge went through the bridge gate yesterday, selling coal, gas etc... anc OH saw another barge business doing a roaring trade doing mobile bike repairs on a barge. So interesting...
We are on our final CL tonight, back at Pebbly Barn Farm just outside Moreton in Marsh. Lovely run up from Devizes, stopped off at Avebury for a good walk around, then did scenic drive right up to Swindon outskirts, managed to detour around, on up through Lechlade and Burford and out below Stow for final drive into Moreton. CL is full, but plenty of space. We have really enjoyed this tour, stayed on some old favourites and some great new finds.

Good to read that your trip is going well, TG, even if you've caught some rain.
Glad that you're bike is fixed, tda, and you'll be able to ride along to the locks. Just be careful on that towpath.

RK, I see that the Meadow Saffron is also called "Naked Ladies" because the flowers emerge from the ground long before the leaves. The whole of the plant is toxic so care needed if handling it.
Nice walk, WN, and a lot less hard on the legs than Chesil Beach.
We had a walk from Cheddar Head up to Middle Down nature reserve before a drive down the Gorge. Cheddar town was rather busy, but is rather naff in appearance. Drove onto Westhay Moor NNR for a second walk, but there was very little wildlife to see. Returned to the site via Glastonbury, which looked smarter than the last time we visited, about 20 yrs ago.

My bike isn’t behaving as it should, OH thinks it needs more links out of chain, it’s skipping gears. Have to have a word tomorrow. I didn’t do the canal path. It’s not a nice ride from where we were, very narrow and bumpy, so the potential for me undoing up in the water was high. It’s a footpath mainly, and very busy, so not an easy ride. Here at Moreton will be better.

Whereabouts are you David? TG too, I've lost track.
On the subject of autumn crocus also known as Colchicums....
we've tried growing them but they seem to disappear as quickly as we plant them! Nice in the lawn under trees etc. Quite an expensive bulb to buy. But as you say Nellie something to take care of when handling.Sounds like our type of CL by the canal TDA and a successful tour for you. Hope the last bit goes well.
Hope the WNs get to Scratchy Bottom!

Don't sit still for too long AD with all those vultures about! We used to see Hoopoes when we caravaned in south west France. Amazing birds. Sounds as though you are having a wonderful time 'over there' TG (apart from the thunderstorms). Glad you have had such a good trip TDA. Safe journey home.
Hairdresser appointment for both of us today.
